A few years back I made a prediction that the future of radio is not on the AM/FM dial, but on the internet.
Today we are on the inevitable pathway to the introduction of wireless Net to the car. The future of radio is on the Internet. And once it is in your car, Highlander Radio will be a click away!

Sounds cool =) Although the idea of full-fledged Internet access in the car sounds a little worse than talking on a cell phone while driving. Also, everything I see there seems to be geared more for a boat or RV.... Might get a little unwieldy in a smaller car like my Shadow. Now I'm nerdy enough that if I had the hardware and service already, I'd plug up a laptop, start the stream, lay the gear in the floorboard and go, I've done it before with mp3s before I got a portable player I used a laptop a few times....
If HR went to XM or something though, I'd probably do like I have w/ Live365 and go get a reciever this weekend. As for this other route, I'll wait in the wings for it to be a little further developed. Cool potential though

this is surely possible you need is mobile internet (GPRS is too slow to go) verizon wireless national access is the way to go the speed is fast enough for mp3
meanwhile, I use T-Mobile GPRS to listen to radio from Hong Kong it just requires 20k, enough to go then I can even get rid of local junk radio or even listen to WFUV (Ceol na nGael) almost anywhere I want
With all due respect, the technology has been around for a long time and in active use. Everythign from automatic meter readers to police data to the potato chip vendor is using wireless internet access to transmit and receive data. Note the laptops on the dashboards of police cars and the palm pilots the UPS drivers use. So why not Internet Radio?
The only problem is that its a little difficult for the general public to mount a laptop on the car dash. A form of palm pilot or the XM module will be required. Until then, you will be limited to filling my abode with my favourite music provided by your great innovation- Highlander Radio!
Yes, I agree it is still very far off. But I think alot of technologies are starting to line up that will make it possible. It nice to here people talking about these technologies in the article I posted.
Where I have wanted to have Highlander Radio is in my clock radio. Reciva http://www.reciva.com/ with the timer function of a clock radio is what I want.
This product is one step on the way to getting internet radio into the car.

What about satalite radio? We have a local alternative radio station that has been doing internet radio for years. Well as of May first we lose the station to a stictly internet format. They have sold the frequency and everything. ( very disappointing to those like me who have been listening to it in the car since I started driving) But there is now talk about them hooking up with a satalite radio company so it can be recieved in autos again! So, that might be something to think about too. ( and then people aren't playing with 'puters in the car!)

HIGHLAND RADIO IN MY CAR?!?!?!?!? THAT ROCKS!!!!!!
And I don't think its as far off as you might think. I don't know what kind of speeds we're talking about here, but I know that BMW has been useing BLUE TOOTH in their cars for a couple of years now and the "I-Drive" systems out in the new 5 and 7 Series are pacticly full fledged computer in themselves. They all ready access the internet useing cell phone technology. Again, being a desk topper myself, I have no idea what speeds were talk about at this time.
I don't think that internet radio as a common feature in the car is that far off either. I look forward to the day when the stranglehold of the evil Clear Channel empire is thoroughly crushed. heh heh heh

it don't happen this time I don't like XM becoz it don't have any Chinese and Celtic channel
besides of that, wish T-Mobile will have unlimited EDGE, then I can play Highlanderradio on my pda in FULL STEREO on the road if you can't wait? sign Verizon National Access and buy a pocket pc there

one issue must be solved stabliity, especially when driving in high speed the connection becomes very unstable why I know? I often listen internet radio through GPRS

So what we need is a high speed connection
Seriously, I realize that we are not there yet but I understand that an independant station in Cincinatti just recently sold their call sign and part of their decision was a result of events (we have the technology) on the horizon that are going to make internet radio in the auto feasible for the common man/woman.
