Backup Server

We are pleased to announce that we now have added a new server to our Celtic Radio Network!

Work has been completed on a back up server which will provide us with complete protection in case of hardware failure. While we have backup devices, this new server will automatically back up the entire Celtic Radio Website including remote servers, databases and our workstation every nite!

The name of our backup server is called Zion and we hope to have the backup software installed soon.

Backups are very important to keep our site protected and running. Back on March 17, 2003 we lost our entire site because of backup issue.

Thanks again for everyone that has helped contribute to our backup server through purchasing our clothing products, founder accounts, donations and advertisers.

we put a 2Terrabyte backup server in at the plant and ended up having to restore SQL server from it within a week of installation.

Amazingly good luck that you had it installed! The SQL backups are what we are mainly interested in have good protection. We are evaluating a backup product that is a very reasonable price that will do everything we need.

We learned our lesson in 2003 when we lost our site!

We finally purchased backup software to automate our nightly backups. The software is from a company called "Desktop Software":

Products purchased where the SQL Backup Professional and File Back Up Watcher Professional.

After going through their registration process and running into problems after entering the product key; I would probably not recommend this company. It has taken over a week to get the software to run. Funny though, it ran fine before we put the software keys in!

Still, it is excellent software. Now all of our local and remote databases get backed up including our webserver, broadcast software and music.

Some terrific options such the ability to make ISO images for DVD and also backup to a remote FTP server. We will be exploring those options in the future. But for now, atleast we have a remote backup in case of lighting strikes or some other catrasphy.
