QUOTE (hamepages @ 12-Dec-2007, 07:44 AM) | In recent years “Ae Fond Kiss” has become one of the best known and best loved of all Robert Burns’ songs. But I wonder how many people realise that the now familiar tune is not the one that Burns wrote the famous words to?
The lyrics were in fact set to a tune titled Rory Dall’s Port and if you would like to hear the song in its original 1791 form you can do by visiting the site for the new musical “Clarinda” at www.clarindathemusical.com. Click on “Sound Clips” and then “Track 7” and listen to “Ae Fond Kiss” performed by “Clarinda” composer Kevin Walsh.
While visiting the site check out the dates for “Clarinda” on stage – it opens in Edinburgh on Burns Night, 25 January 2008 before touring in Scotland. And if you have a moment, why not sign the guest book? |
Thank you and Robert Burns, for I needed to cry. JC
