From the official 2004 Democratic Party Platform:
QUOTE |
But we recognize that disagreements will remain, and we believe disagreement should not mean disrespect. Members of our party have deeply held and differing views on some matters of conscience and faith. We view diversity of views as a source of strength, and we welcome into our ranks all Americans who seek to build a stronger America. We are committed to resolving our differences in a spirit of civility, hope and mutual respect.

Many liberals simply cannot understand, nor respect, the fact that there are people in America that don't see things the same way they do. I still remember the Kerry exclaimation: "I can?t believe I?m losing to this idiot." The media pundits had a tough time explaining why so much of America was composed of "red states".
I have no love for Pat Buchanan. He's a bit too caustic for me. Although I do admire his tough stand on immigration and policing our borders (heck, the US has no real borders).
Conservatism and libertarianism is alive and well in the US - even when splattered with salad dressing.
