That is great! I love the one move as in the movie "Hero" when he sticks the staff in the ground, kicks it at someone, it hits the guy and then comes back.

This hero is like the character from the game 'hangman', having escaped the gallows and now is really p.o.'d

Happy St. patrick's Day from Chicago. I hope you are all enjoying the snow this morning. Oh well, a good excuse to stay in with a pint.

Hmm. I think I'll stick to my pot of coffee in the mornin'. They'll do anything for a gimmick - reminds me of the shampoo my friend bought in germany that said it cures hangovers.

Another site for Camouflage Kilts is

http://www.sportkilt.com

I own a sportkilt and it is a good product. Not a real kilt but great for kicking around, especially with the price. I'd like to get a real one in Clan Maclellan tartan soon for more formal occasions.

Thanks to all. Very valuable information. I'll try to keep any other questions within the Scotland forum. I am sure I will have tons as I am very excited to travel there. My Great Grandfather lived in Newton-Stewart before coming to the U.S., so I'd like to see there but, other than that, I don't have a set plan.

I am, AT LONG LAST, going to be able to travel and visit Scotland. I'll have to arrange travel dates around times teachers are off school so my main question is: when is the better time to travel to Scotland, Late-March or Mid-June. Is there a difference as far as weather?

Chicago would be a great location, I agree (of course, I live there), but I love Toronto. great city and good exchange rate.
Doing it around a highland game or so would be easy. Get a Celticradio.net booth/tent.

I'll have to go home and put on the kilt, even if it is only a sportkilt.

I think the US Should convert to metric and I am an American. It doesn't make sense not to switch it is just lazy and stubborn not to. Start teaching both to kids now and phase it in if the older people are stuck in their ways. Like someone else said, the miltary uses it. Industries are using it. Everyone uses it but us. I think it is easier with everything based around measures of ten instead of 12 inches in a foot, etc.

I don't know it very well now, but I would be willing to learn. it isn't as if I was taught it and now i want everyone else to convert to the ways I know.

Are any other members near/thinking about attending the Illinois St. Andrews Society Scottish Festival in June at the Oakbrook Polo Grounds in Oakbrook, IL USA?

Would be nice to say hello. I live near but have always had other obligations to attend to and have not been able to go before. I plan to attend this summer.

Thank you everyone.
I probably will pick up a World Piping Championship CD or two. Especially if they are recorded more recently, I woud think the sound quality would be there.

The Scottish Rogues or the Rogues (are they the same or two different bands?) are also a CD or two I may pick up. My wife thinks I am crazy, but I love it all.

I like traditional tunes, especially if it has pipes. But some of the Celtic Rock stuff really sounds great. I'd never imagined hearing bagpipes along with heavy rock drums and electric guitar but it can really be pulled off well!

It gets me pumped up to go out and play hockey. Of course, the teammates hate it. Guess it may have to be in your blood.

Try listening to OFFKILTER. www.offkilter.net (I think). I guess they play at Epcot Center at Disney World, FLA. in the Canadian Pavilian year round. Friends that traveled there told me about them and I found one of their CD's at a highland games. I wish they were on highlander radio.

I appreciate everyones input. I am basically looking for something to get in the mood to play my hockey games. Every once in a while I like to hear some pipes to get in the mindset, so it is hard to find something to listen to that isn't a jig or a reel. I almost wish there was an album out of tunes the Royal pipers would play to go into battle.
I know, I am a little wierd but most goalies are.

Listen mostly to HR but Celticmelt is alright, then there is the movie soundtracks station. Even some cajun/zydeco station if the mood is right (whatever I can find in my iTunes radio presets). That is what I love the most about internet radio is you can listen to types of music you can't tune into on a radio. I just wish I could get Highlander radio in the car.

note.gif I'm wondering if other members can help me find artists similar to the Wicked Tinkers. I like their very traditional sound but it is upbeat and very well recorded. Some traditional music, like regimental pipers, etc. are nice but the recording quality isn't the best. I guess I just need another artist to consider when the Wicked Tinkers have already been requested recently. walkman.gif

I completely agree. I loved their earlier CD's and it seems like as soon as the United States started to advertise them more, they changed their style from very Celtic feels to more pop. I still think they have great voices, etc. but what I really loved was the Celtic feel. I bought the new album but don't listen to it all that much.
