I haven't been listening much lately, sorry! So today is the first day I've paid attention to the Social Network feed on the front page. And I have to say I'm not a fan of having every little thing I do on this site displayed on the front page. Particularly the song ratings, that's a bit awkward if there is a song that I don't particularly like. If I can't opt out somehow, then I'll have to limit my activities to song requests and positive ratings. I was looking forward to catching up on everything going on.

QUOTE (CelticRadio @ 24-Feb-2012, 01:18 PM)

Yes, the Celtic Rock songs can be a bit overwhelming sometime if you are listenng to Danny Boy and then comes on some Flogging Molly.

But that's what I like about this place!! Most radio stations are genre based, rock or pop or folk or classical, etc. But not here, oh no. This is where Flogging Molly, a band I really like, follows Paul Bryom, a classical tenor that I really like, and then the Chieftans. thumbs_up.gif

I'm glad to hear you say that, Vixie. That's how I rank songs, trying to focus on quality, etc. and not whether or not it's a style I like. The songs I don't like, but are reasonably well done, I just don't rank them. But...if it makes me want to turn the station off....2 stars. smile.gif

My favorite Tin Cup Gypsy song has been "To the Sea"....but I just heard "She Just Is" for the first time - I think I need to buy this album. I've commented on a couple of the other songs somewhere around here, I think, but it's time for me to get the whole album and listen whenever I want to. Good music smile.gif

This is cool! I live in the LA area, and I've never heard of them. But I normally don't listen to the radio on Sunday evenings when it airs on KPFK. Should be a very nice addition to Celtic Radio walkman.gif

ah, this is a sad thing. Prayers for their family, and for those in Mexico who they were serving. Thanks for sharing the story with us.

I was in Ganado for a couple of days once, we had cousins who were teachers/missionaries there. Probably has changed a bit, that was over 40 years ago.

I've already commented on Paul's Christmas album, but I think his new album, 'A Moment in Time' deserves it's own review. It's a nice mix of classical, Broadway, and pop tunes...along with two Phil Coulter originals - 'Scorn Not His Simplicity' which Phil wrote about his own son, and which Paul said he felt very privileged to record. The other is 'Rio Serenade' which Phil wrote especially for Paul!!!

Paul has a magnificent tenor voice, but he is not limited to traditional tenor songs. Each of these pieces has a very special meaning to him, if you are lucky enough to catch one of his solo shows (I was) you will hear the stories for each and every song. I love this man's music, can't wait for another album and another tour!! Check out his version
of the National Anthem which he has performed for the Boston Celtics several times, they keep asking him back - he's a fan favorite there!

Can't request this, I guess, so I'll just suggest it? I'd love to hear Saviour's Day, it's something a little different.

Paul's new album 'This is the Moment' was released last month, it's an amazing collection. Just the right mix of Broadway, traditional Irish, pop and classical songs.

The girls have just released their Christmas album, 'Starlight'. It is just marvelous. A delightful mix of classics, done Sephira style, and a new original that Joyce and Ruth wrote themelves, 'Beneath A Thousand Stars'. Hopefully they will add it here soon.

Lovely surprise!! I didn't know Michael's album was here, it's not been released for sale yet. Lucky Celtic Radio listeners! I was at the taping, there is a dvd of the show also, so much fun. Michael is a great entertainer. His version of Black is the Colour is perfection, so soulful and pure. Love it. The show featured Sephira and De Dannan as well, both have music here on Celtic Radio.

Yes, it's a bit early for Christmas music....but wait till you hear this album. Some songs that we are all familiar with, but a few that may be new to you if you're not in Ireland, like me wink.gif The River, Saviour's Day - love those songs. Soon soon soon we'll be able to request, in the meantime you can listen to the previews. Hopefully by September Paul will have another solo cd out, can't wait for that. He's not just another good Irish tenor, much more than that in his voice and performance.

I've been waiting for this!!!! What an excellent album, George wrote most of the songs...and they come from his heart, from his experiences. His website has the stories of some of the lyrics, great reading. It's hard to pick a favorite, but for me....A Song for Harry Chapin, and The White Rose are probably my favorites of the songs that George wrote. Probably smile.gif He does a great cover of Beeswing, catchy song that sort of sticks in your head. And a very emotional cover of Grace. Request and listen, this man's voice is a treasure.

I received carisma’s Celtic Dreams cd that I won in June’s contest, and I love it. I was pleased to find out that I recognize many tunes, even if I don’t know the words. Such is the nature of Celtic music, yes?

Suo Gan played on Highlander a few days before the contest, and when I figured out that I would be home to “compete” I decided to choose the cd by carisma. So it’s here, and I’ve listened through a few times. I love Suo Gan, like many people the first time I heard it was in the movie “Empire of the Sun.” carisma’s version uses the voices of the harp, then the cello, and finally the flute to calm and soothe – it’s beautiful.

I was surprised to read in the album notes that Morning Has Broken is a traditional Scottish tune! Cat Stevens is one of my all time favorite musicians, and I always thought he had written the tune and the lyrics. Bless those liner notes, that’s why I still like to get the hard copy of the cd.

I also really like the first track, Brian Boru’s March. I enjoy the “march” rhythm of the percussion on this song – O’Carolan’s Concerto is another upbeat piece. One of the tunes that was not familiar to me, it’s from a more contemporary Scottish composer, is Water Shore Sound. It is also a beautiful song, and the guitar that is featured is excellent.

Thank you to carisma, and to Celtic Radio for this wonderful cd! Listeners, watch for these cd contests every month - there is some great music available. Request some of the songs ahead of time so you know which albums to grab walkman.gif

Wonderful album, I just requested and listened to The Shores of the Swilly - so beautiful, and so sad. Sinead's voice is perfect for this song. Flight of the Earls is another favorite, with Liam Neeson's marvelous voice telling the story.

Mickey wrote it about a good friend of his, Cormac McAnallen, a young Gaelic footballer who died of sudden cardiac arrest. I love listening to this song....although it is sad.

He wrote both of those songs, as well as several others on the album. It will be here for our listening and requesting pleasure in early July walkman.gif

I've been listening over and over, I love the album. It's classic folk music, storytelling and excellent musicianship by George and all those accompanied him.
