THIS WAS PASSED TO ME.

Subject: Read and Beware

90# on the telephone

PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW,

I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying himself as an AT&T Service technician who was conducting a test on telephone lines. He stated that to complete the test I should touch nine (9), zero (0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up. Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.

Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#, you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line, which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone number.

I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local jails/prisons. I have also verified this information with UCB Telecom, Pacific Bell, MCI, Bell Atlantic and GTE. Please beware.

DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.

The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with EVERYONE I KNOW.

PLEASE pass this on to everyone YOU know.

If you have mailing lists and/or newsletters from organizations you are connected with, I encourage you to pass on this information to them.

After checking with Verizon they said it was true, so do not dial nine (9), zero (0), the pound sign # and hang up for anyone.

PLEASE PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW

I thought I would add a con that I became aware of this week.
I recieved an email from an American company stating that either a friend or myself had registered my email address on their site and that I had won an Xbox and 5 games. They said that I would only pay for postage. Now I know what you are thinking.... "No one gets anything for nothing" and you are right but we all want to believe that we can win don't we? unsure.gif
I worked my way through the pages for my name and address but major alarm bells started ringing when they asked for the postage money. They wanted details of a debit card (not credit ) but they also wanted my PIN number!
Of course I did not send them, I did a quick search on the net and this company has been operating for a while under different names and people have been stung - they use the details to take money out of the account from abroad.
The name they used was Prize-Giveaway.com. furious.gif mad.gif furious.gif
