Have you ever had one of those really special moments where you feel everything inside you just settle and you get such a feeling of wellbeing?
I had one of those today. I was driving home from work and the winter sun was bright and clear .I looked to the right and saw two rainbows. One was quite hazy. The other was as strong as I have ever seen. Its colours were so brilliant they appeared solid. It stayed in the sky all the way home and really made me smile. To crown it all, as I came up the path to the house, I glanced up and saw a squirrel playing on the garden bench at the back of the house. Amazing!

How about you ? Ever had a moment?

I have had one of those moments several years back when I use to hunt.

I was out squirrel hunting that year, and the night before we had a few inches of snowfall. I had seated myself under a large Beech Tree and everything was quiet when I notice a squirrel's head peaked out of a den hole in the tree across from me.

Since I was using my rifle at the time, I waited until the squirrel had come down low on the tree, waiting for a better shot. But the squirrel was acting rather strangely when it came out.

I followed the squirrel down the tree with my sights on him all the way. I watch it come down to the ground and it stuck its paw out and touched the snow. It quickly jerked it back and it looked at it's paw rather inquisitively, so I didn't shoot. It put it's paw back out and touched the snow again and again it jerked it back and looked at it again. It then proceeded to run around the side of the tree several times and then ran back to it's den.

I could not shoot at all, even though I had every opportunity to do so. The first thing that came to my mind was that this was the squirrel's first snow and this put a rather large smile on my face. biggrin.gif I quit hunting for the rest of the day to reflect on what had happened to me.

Even though this was at least 20 years ago. I can still remember this event in full detail and I still sit here smiling as I write this story.

I have it quiet often... usually when my boyfriend settles down next to me and hugs me... I love those moments, I just live for those..
I could stay like that forever... but also often when I see a picture which will only last for a minute or less, maybe a couple of deer stepping into my path, or walking around on a crisp cold winter evening and watch some birds at the sea...

I have those moments fairly often. My wife of 27 years and I take our dog for long walks on a daily basis. The peace and joy I experience as we do this is a very important part of the day. These moments do not have to be rare. If we develop a deep sense of appreciation for our lives and those we love. smile.gif
Surprise! I can be serious when I want.

I have had the opportunity to live in different states and each one has a beauty all of its own! I have also driven across the states several times too and seen many beautiful places and people. In North Carolina I lived on a hillside and before me were mountains and every morning there was a different scene of beauty for me to behold. I think my favorite time was October of each year then for the leaves were so many different colors, it was like a vivid dream. Now I live in the desert and we see many beautiful sunsets. I love wild animals, owls, being my favorite. One time I was out walking my dogs and there was an owl sitting there in someone's driveway and didn't seem disturbed by us at all. A few nights later, he was sitting in my back yard! I was thrilled to death! hoo hoo! biggrin.gif

I only seem to get that feeling when I'm outside after a snow fall.

I thought I'd get that feeling as I stood on the Isle of Skye in Scotland over looking the ocean but I got a more excited churning in my stomach there.

So snow falls seem calming for me.

One of those times happen regularly when I see a hawk on my travel area. The hawk is a spirit guide. So I know when I see one or more...then I know where ever I am going or what I am doing will be a good time.

hehe, ravens and owls are it for me too, Rose.. I love them. We had a barn owl nisting in the attic of our house in the last few summers and there is a tufted one living in one of the old crows nests at a farm near us. I always take Craigs dog there for the evening walk trying to see that owl. I love them and the hooting sound they do.

Another bird I love watching when it swoops down on it's prey is the merlinhawk and the goshawk... beautiful...

I can watch animals all day long.. just stand at a fence and watch something. Baby owls are particulary great when they do their first flights and swoops =)
