My folks never gave us more than $.50 for a tooth...and this would be in the early 80's... Guess it's just whatever the toothfairy can afford...
btw..no allowance for us. We were expected to do our chores with no reward. If we wanted spending money we got to work a job outside the house like picking cherries or strawberries, or baling hay for neighboring farms.

I do beleive they did record a birth at that time as well. I don't have the facts on it. I heard it on the radio while driving around that day. Will have to see if I can find some article out there on the net about it.

I have a couple things...

Groceries - In the state of wisconsin there is a program called Share (sharewi.org)it is a grocery buying club. There is no income requirements, anyone can participate. Granted the selections are limited, but my freezer is full for the whole month. I only go to the grocery store now for bread, milk, and butter basically. For veggies, well, the local farmer's market just opened for the summer so I will be buying those there. Generally it is cheaper, fresher, and I know where they came from. Will be canning/freezing some of those goodies for the winter.

Household goods and miscellaneous - I heart.gif www.freecycle.org! It is a bunch of people just giving away things they have no use for anymore rather than tossing it in the landfill. We use it to get baby clothes and gear, books, appliances, plants, screen doors, what ever. IT IS ALL FREE. You just have to pick it up! Granted it is bad karma to pick up a freecycle and sell it online. Your old junk could be someone elses treasure...

here I was gonna edit my last post but I guess that's not the right button. Oh well.

You might want to look at the list for Rounder Records Corp. and have a listen to The Cottars. I don't know if they've got multiple albums out but I do have a copy of "Forerunner" released in 2006 and I play it often. I did have the good fortune of seeing them perform live and it was a fantastic show.

I know the boys of The Fuchsia Band have got a new album in the works. I'm thinking it might be out this fall. If I hear of any others I'll certainly let you know.

Hi everyone!

Yes it has been a long long time. Been busy with my little boy Cian. He's now almost 10 months old. Starting to stand and getting into everything!!!! He will be running soon and so will I at that point.

Back in February I lost my job and have been a SAHM since then. I'd really like to get back into the work force but as we all know there isn't much of anything out there right now. I'm hoping things open up soon since unemployment won't last forever.

I can't believe how quickly the summer is going. It seems like it just started but it is nearly half over. I'm hoping to enjoy Milwaukee's Irish Fest again this year but not sure how it will be with Cian along. I'm hoping that we'll get to see some good acts this year and maybe be able to leave him at his grandparents for Saturday night and hopefully catch some good headliners.

Tuning in to the station today because Cian's fussing me a bit and am glad he likes the music. It put him to sleep in about 10 minutes which means I get time to drop you all a note and let you know I haven't completely fallen off the face of the planet.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer and hope I can drop in again soon to say hello.

Well in less then 5 days, Santa will begin his trip to visit all the good girls and boys of Celtic Radio. What Celtic item would you like Santa to bring you or your family this year.

JIM

I want a night of rest, a warm, comfortable place to rest my head, and tickets to a celtic concert...but I'd skip the concert for a nap right now.

Hello everyone!

Oh my tis been ages since I've poked my head in isn't it? So much has changed. I'm now a mommy, to a bright little guy we named Cian Adrian Lachlan. He will be celebrating his 3mo. b-day on Monday. He's a big for such a little guy and what an eater! Can't keep enough bottles made!

Spending a quiet night tonight just listening in to Highlander Radio, wrapping presents and calming the wee one when he fusses. Busy season for me as always, band concert at Holy Hill just outside of Milwaukee on Sunday night, Yule gathering with friends on the Solstice, and all the shopping, work, and wrapping that needs to be done between now and then.

There goes the little one. Quiet only lasts so long this night it seems. Hope you all have a peaceful, and warm holiday season. I'll try not to be a stranger and visit more often.

-Senara

Hey!

I'm not lost I swear!!! Not under water but it was a close one there for a while. Flooding rivers certainly made getting around the outlying areas of Milwaukee interesting. Found a few new backroads that just seemed to appear out of no where for detours.

Anywhooo...Gwenlee...my love always to you and your daughter. My mom's MS unfortunately is beyond much medical help these days. We just get by day by day. Your daughter sounds like she's in expert hands. I'm sure she'll bounce back...be it slowly.

As for me...well, taking a quick 10 minute break from cleaning out what is to be the nursery here in a couple months. Still have a lot of things to get, but the wee one is doing well. I'll know more for certain after the ultrasound on Monday. Although I do think I have a little soccer player...definately an active one at least. We are in the home stretch now. My doctors are all please with my blood sugar control (went from an 8.4 in Nov down to a 6.9 in January, and now at a 5.2 for those that know the A1C scale), no nausea, no weird cravings...okay, maybe I do eat a bit too much sauerkraut...but what else are you going to put on a bratwurst besides mustard???

Back to cleaning up though. Gonna be grooving to the station though while I work. Hope you are all well and keeping cool....oh I've got a myspace page now too...finally broke down and made one. Seem to check it at least once a day so if you wish to leave me messages there that's fine. Profile is under LadySenara.

Oh...and I do have the new Gaelic Storm CD on pre-order....smile.gif very very cool!

I too pulled my name from a Marion Zimmer Bradley book... Senara is the name of one of the young sisters of the lead character in The Forest House.

Senara is just a name in passing and not much is mentioned about her in the book, but I liked the name and thought I'd use it.

Hey there everyone...I know I've been missing for quite some time, but haven't had much time to drop in and visit. Life has been turned upside down for me in the past year. I was diagnosed type2 diabetic, and on top of it my first child should be making his/her way into the world this coming September. Needless to say, life has been one Dr.'s appointment after another. Unfortunately my employer has installed some goofy firewall and I don't get a chance to pop in here much and check the boards. "Entertainment" well, ya...gotta have something to make work not seem so miserable.

Saw Leahy in concert a couple weeks ago in a town called Cedarburg at their tiny performing arts center. An amazing show and I highly recommend it to anyone.
I'm getting excited about Milwaukee's Irish Fest again this year. I'm gonna be as big as a stage by that point so no jigs for me!

Well, I had best be getting to work, the boss is on his way in. Just needed to drop by and let you know that all is well and I'm still lurking in a corner around here somewhere. Hope you all have a fantastic St. Pat's weekend!

P.S. Since I can't...have a half dozen or so Guinness for me? PLEASE?!?!?! beer_mug.gif beer.gif cheers.gif bye1.gif

Best pub band I've seen is the band that does not exist. It's the group of musicians that turn up on any given night and just play for the pure enjoyment of it. There is a pub not to far from me that has such a "house band" of sorts, but it's never the same group night to night. That's my favorite band.

The Elders probably won't confirm until February or March I'm thinking...at least it will be after their trip to Ireland with Enter the Haggis...who will probably confirm at the same time.

Awesome the Omagh choir is returning. Definately a fantastic group! One of the Celtic Tenors was their director the last time they were here. Wonder if Dierdre will be with the Celtic Tenors this year...that would be awesome!

As usual...so many great bands...not enough time to see them all!

nothing wrong with being a mermaid!

What Mythological Creature are you? (Cool Pics!)
You scored as a Mermaid
Mermaid: Mermaids are also known as Sirens. These creatures were beautiful women who tricked sailors into becoming completely entranced by their haunting voices and found death soon after. Not all stories of Mermaids are about gentle loving sea people. They are mystical, magical, and extremely dangerous. They have a way about them that brings anyone they are around to seem enchanted. They are very mysterious creatures and to meet one... Would mean certain Death. Let the song of the Sea fill your soul, for you are a Mermaid.

Hey Gwenlee...sorry to hear your daughter hit another relapse. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you both.

Mom's MS is slowly progressing, but not terribly noticable on a day to day basis. She just got a new cushion for her power chair so life is much more comfortable for her these days. I found a couple good "chunky" pens for her to use...the little stick bic pens she can't get a grip on to write with...so all is good at the moment on this end.

Finally got my computer at work back to life...well, got a new one and have spent the entire day today trying to get it to my poweruser operational standard. 4 more progams to load and I should be rockin.

I really could use a pint after all that though!

You must have MidWestern contacts. I had never heard the term bubbler until my office manager, who is from Wisconsin, used it and explained it to me.

*waves* born and raised cheesehead...everyone needs to use Bubbler more often as far as I'm concerned...heheh

Hey there everyone. So sorry I haven't been around for a while. Life has kept me hopping. Let's see...what's new with me. I'm really happy that I'm about 25lbs lighter since St. Pat's Day...it's been a struggle and there's a long ways to go...but I'm doing well there and just going to take a while. Can find me on sparkpeople.com if you want to follow my progress.

Other things...well, been very busy with work. Mandatory 50hr weeks will do that to ye. If I slip into a piratical voice I appologize. Got myself hooked on playing Puzzle Pirates. Lots of great fun, and they have their own pirate webradio stations as well. Lots of fun to listen and play at the same time. Though I always come back to CR!

IrishFest 2007 was great fun, the massed bagpipes at the Wisconsin Highland games blew me away, but nothing will come to match haning out with The Elders before, during, and after thieir performance here in Milwaukee this past October. Spent a couple hours drinking pints with the boys and just having a jolly good time. How I wish you all could have been there!

Today is one of my few rare days off. So I'm going to go check out the rest of the threads and see what I've missed while the dishes soak a bit longer. I've missed you all and hope that all is well with you and your families.
