Don't ask me why but when I read posts I put voices and an image with each individual as I read.

Some of it has to do with what I have read previously of their posts. If their posts in general seem to be a bit cranky for example.

I just realized yesterday that I was doing this (actually assigning voices)

I was reading a post by Aon when it dawned on me and I couldn't say why but when I read her posts I apply this laid back voice kind of low and soothing like a late night smooth jazz DJ. I realized I was doing this and I asked myself why, I talked to her in Chat and she was hopping around as a frog before she transformed. So I couldn't put my finger on why I asigned her a voice.

As a sales rep who works primarily on the phone I find it interesting the images that I assign to my customers (quit acurately in many cases-as I will discover if we eventually meet at a trade show) and I can never tell you why I imagine them a certain way. I just used Aon as an example as the revelation happened when I was reading her post.(i'm not some sort of weirdo stalker)

Anyway I was just curious to see if the rest of you have similar experiences to relate.

Peace

Mikel

Interesting observation. I tend to do the same sort of thing, assigning voices and pictures to people. It is fun to do here, picturing someone from their posts before I call up their profile to look at their photo. I have no way to check my voice selection, but it is fun anyway. I guess that hearing the voices is ok as long as they aren't saying: pick up the gun....shoot the sales rep..... tongue.gif

Interesting concept.

I can't say I do this. Then again, I like to communicate with the mind of another. Partly why I love this medium for discussion. I often find the physical presence of a person, the visual of a picture or the sound of a voice a distraction to getting to the heart of a person. I often intentionally refrain from looking up a picture. For people's physical form or voice is usually incongruent with my image of their mind.

I know, just as wierd as hearing voices......

I'd ask what kind of voice you assign to me, but I'm afraid to know! biggrin.gif

I hear voices, but it has nothing to do with the posts here biggrin.gif .

Seriously, though, for some members I do. Paul's voice is kind of authoritative, like a father's or a corporate suit's. Dave's is a normal guy's voice, except when he gets a bee in his bonnet about something; then he kinda sounds like Yosemite Sam. Mirri's voice is a very soft, feminine one. Maggie sounds like a supervisor at my last place of employment.

I would say an image of the mind is a good discription of what I am hearing and it probably has to do somewhat with the character of what is said in the posts although the Avatar is probably an important factor.

Your voice Elspeth is very proper and reserved yet somehow down to earth at the same time. Might be a combination of reading your short story on Christmas and the Avatar smile.gif

Jason's voice of Barddas, whom I had the pleasure to meet in person was just like I read his voice. (twilight zone music plays in background)

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Dec-2003, 04:00 PM
I don't picture voices with a person's postings. I'm alot like Elspeth as I picture the heart of the person I'm talking to. The outside of a person is not really who that person is. I guess that's why when I talk to someone I always look them dead in the eyes...I think I can see into their heart and their eyes reflect who they are. This medium presents a rare opportunity to get to know who people really are before you speak or meet. There are many of us who talk by phone so we have actually put voices with the images of the person we have in our heads. But now when I start hearing voices it's time for someone to call the guys with the white jackets for me, not you, me!

first, thank you Raven *smile* but I doubt I have a soothing laid back voice at all wink.gif you might be disappointed. I couldn't describe my voice but I can tell you the way I talk. I stumble over words for example when I get excited, and my boyfriend says that I have that weird Scottish-german thing going with my accent.

On my voice itself, I wouldn't describe it as either very high, nor very low, maybe a bit dragging words from time to time. I should get myself a microphone so I could send you a wave file *laughs*

second: I see persons in front of me (not always looking like their avatars I have to say) when I read posts, but I read the words, I don't hear voices.. I think it would be something nice to actually hear people talk!

I don't hear voices, but I visualize all the faces from the posters. Then one day I went through and looked at everybody's profile to see their picture! That was great, but I was disappointed when I came across some that hadn't posted their pic. Oh well, I will just let my imagination keep rolling! rolleyes.gif biggrin.gif

Posted by: Raven 08-Dec-2003, 10:13 PM
I said that when I read your posts I hear the voices in my head that I have assigned (through what ever weird logic that my mind works on) I should have made a disclaimer about 100% accuracy it seems biggrin.gif

It's kind of like when I read books and then go to the movies (about the same book of course) and the characters are right on and other times not quite what I expected. One thing is for sure that I can see right now.----you are all definitely characters --ROFLAOJ

Besides where I live it is normal to hear voices tongue.gif

Whew, AD, I'm glad I don't sound like my Guiness bodhran!! biggrin.gif

When I read posts here, I can't help but assign voices to the people. I have a 5 year old who I read to all the time, and if I don't use a different voice for each character, he lets me know about it (we are reading The Hobbit now; you try to come up with voices for each of the 12 dwarves, that sound like dwarves, but are different. wink.gif )

Aon Donna- sounds like a German exchange student I first met about 15 years ago. The cadence of your posts remind me of hers.

Catriona- OK, I know this sounds hokey, but you sound like Fiona Ritchie of "Thistle and Shamrock" fame. I know that y'all are from different areas of Scotland, but that's just how you sound in my head.

Barddas- You sound like my little brother. I have no clue why.

Annabelle- You sound like my sister-in-law. Southern as southern can be. A true southern belle.

Elspeth- you sound like my old college composition professor. That's OK, though, I really got along with her very well.

Mike F.- you sound like my old fencing coach.

Maggiemahone1- you sound like Maureen O'Hara in "The Quiet Man."

Raven- for some strange reason, you sound like Vincent Price. Maybe it's because of the recording he did of Poe's "The Raven."

CelticRose- you sound like a young lady from my old reenacting unit, named Rose.

Just a few of the voices that rattle around inside my gourd. Please don't take offense at my characterizations of y'all. It's just what pops into my head. wink.gif tongue.gif naughty.gif As always

Just my tuppence.

I am finding this hysterical to read how others perceive my voice from my words. But I understand. A friend describes my writing style as elegant and brooding.

However, that isn't how I speak.

I am one generation out of the hills of Pennsylvania. Though suburban Ohio removes any accents, family makes sure you don't get above your rasin'. (or eat a buggy raisin depending upon who is hearing the lyrics) Sorry, I digress.

Here is a description of my voice. It is low, rarely shrill, slightly lyrical as I am a singer, but my speaking voice is a bit too nasal for my liking- something that is exasperated by living with a smoker. Hear Karen Carpenter with a slight head cold. biggrin.gif And my laugh is loud and boisterous. Something that has rang out often today reading the camaraderie in these posts.
Dang, I do sound cultured, don?t I. What a hoot! laugh.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 09-Dec-2003, 04:31 PM
I think he's trying to nicely tell you to run for it if I move in next door. He's also scared of what we will drag him into...you know we have to have help.
And he's sworn to secrecy...or we get to tie him up and light him over a roasting fire....

Annabelle

PS: going to take a nap now. Had another migrane today..pressure and problems at work..and with a tennant.

I never think of anyone having a specific voice, rather everyone has a somewhat nebulous vocal quality related to the avalon. The voice tales on a character based on the tone of the post.

Sometimes I imagine what someone looks like, without looking at their picture (if one is posted). This is true for everyone except Annabelle. I just imagine a redhead with attitude.

Are not black birds actually a smaller species of birds than either Ravens or Crows. I've always had this idea since seeing a black bird pie on Popeye when I was but a wee lad growing up. It seems that the birds were placed in the pie while still alive if memory serves me. unsure.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 15-Dec-2003, 09:48 PM
Raven that is correct. I seem to remember them in the pie chirping alive and they were a smaller bird in the pie that was on Popeye cartoons.

I wish they would play some of those old shows. They were so funny.

mmh .. you can shoot/eat or do whatever you want with blackbirds.. those things destroy my mornings by starting to sing at 3 in the morning in the summer.... *grmbll*

Posted by: Annabelle 16-Dec-2003, 07:42 AM
The difference is Raven is a large bird that like to "Eyeball" sweet annabelle as he flies thru the chatroom at night. I really think he's aiming for me.

You plotting on me boy?

Annabelle boff.gif

Posted by: Elspeth 16-Dec-2003, 08:06 AM
We have crows that wake us up way too early in the summer and I'd like to shoot them all.

And speaking as one who lives in NE Ohio, the home of the Cleveland Browns, the past owner of which took the team away to Baltimore and started the Ravens, a Raven in the part of the world isn't safe to walk the streets. So, beware...... If you set foot here, you will be hatched and plucked before you know it.

Posted by: Annabelle 16-Dec-2003, 08:12 AM
See Raven, Sister E is the quiet sneeky one of the family. And you thought I was trouble? Humm?

Baltimore is a great town. Use to live close to it but worked in it. Great town. Very team spirited. Downtown is very friendly and you can walk the streets and not worry about getting jumped. Most of down town is row homes. Ethnic pubs in each ethnic neighborhood. Itlalian's, Greeks, Jews, Irish, Scottish and Polish mostly downtown. All the pub's have a personality like Pubs overseas.
Good city!

Potted Crow:

6 crows
3 bacon slices
stuffing of your choice
1 diced carrot
1 diced onion
chopped parsley
hot water or stock
1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup flour
buttered toast

Clean and dress crows; stuff and place them upright in stew-pan on the slices of bacon. Add the carrot, onion and a little parsley, and cover with boiling water or stock.
Cover the pot and let simmer for 2-3 hours, or until tender, adding boiling water or stock when necessary.
Make a sauce of the shortening and flour and 2 cups of the stock remaining in the pan.

Serve each crow on a thin slice of moistened toast, and pour gravy over all.

Enjoy

No, I haven't had Raven Stew, he's probably over worked like I am. I saw him on here a couple of days ago. The holiday's are almost over and we can all get back to some kind of normal again. I'm not sure I've ever been considered normal but I'll give it a go.
I'm going to start concentrating on exercising to get back in shape after the holidays so I'll be posting late at night and during the work day when I get a break. Hope to catch up with everyone soon. Sure have missed picking at certain people here. They have some nerve having a life and all. Ha Ha!
I'll be sure to get Raven when I see him. I've also got to catch up to OldRaven too. Gee, Raven's of some type everywhere. I could serve them up with fries. Oh yea, the diet thing, will have to be roasted.

JaneyMae, what does Diesel fuel taste like, exactly? tongue.gif Do you partake of the diesel often?

Also when you said Holy Crap I heard the voice of the original boy wonder, young Lord Grayson, I'm talking about of course Batman's side kick Robin. wink.gif

Richard, there is a place where they still make Dr. Pepper according to the original recipe, with sugar instead of corn syrup. OH! it is heaven! Unfortunately they only sell it in a 40-mile radius of Dublin, Tx. Dublin is about 45 minutes West of Fort Worth. The Dublin, Texas Dr.Pepper plant is the oldest Dr. Pepper bottling plant in the US. In other words, you can get it th 7oz. bottles. If you are ever in Texas, it's worth the visit.

As far as root beers go, I'm with you on IBC, It is the best.
