Constitution Free Zones, Are you living in one?

Seems big brother is at it again. Seems my area (the entire U.P. of Michigan) is included in this. I'm not too sure on what the implications of this is going to be up ere in te Northwoods-we can barely get tourists up here muc less any feds. I had heard about this as it relates to illegal aliens. I am opposed to the illegal aliens as I know full well what would happen to me if I slipped into Mexico illegally. I will read the article for more information. Thanks.

Yes, but at what cost?
When this country was founded, the belief was that people had the right to protect themselves from government. Government was to serve the people.
During the 20'th century, we experienced a reversal. The government spends huge amounts of our money to protect itself from its citizens. The government is not for people, people are for the government (Ask not what your country can do for you....).

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

Since 9-11 and the patriot act, America is rapidly becoming a "Police State.' Many of your local police officers have been deputized as federal officers. It seems that US citizens are being harassed but illegals cross our borders at will.

One good thing about our economic situation is that many illegals are now going home. Also in past years Mexico's greatest revenue source was the money sent back by illegals living here. That is shrinking fast.

The problem with illegals may go away but the border "policing" probably will not.

I heard on the ABC News that another attack is coming but that the Terrorist will wait til after the inauguration to test whoever the new Pres. is.

I went back and read about the technology that they use and it seems to be high tech character profiling.

I live in Central Florida not far from the big attractions and know what devastation there would be if there was an attack. Personally I don't mind a little inconvenience if it saves lives.

The technology is already in place and I would rather see it used to keep us safe. I admit that I fear the future and the consequences it might be used for. Right now what fundamental right has been taken away?

Biden was criticized for making a similar comment. I believe it is very possible. If it gets too bad here you may need to police your borders to keep us out!

If you are referring to the Can. U.S Border there aren't enough RCMP, ARMY, or POLICE, up here to do it. There are areas of our border where you don't even know which side your on or if there is a border. Also there are a few towns in the Maritimes where the border runs down the middle of Main Street. I think there is one town where the border runs right through the Post Office.

I know there are places in the West as you describe. There was also a border crossing in NY state that was not manned by either side. That was about 25 years ago.

Years ago I read about a couple who's house was straddling the border, in fact went right through their bedroom. One spouse slept in Canada, the other in the US.

If you want to try living in a constitution free zone, may I suggest North Korea. No, I'm not telling anyone to "get out" or any such silly thing, just saying that there are real constitution free zones out there.

I think what was described is more a "police state" than a "Constitution free zone." I know several attorneys who contend that we are approaching, if not already in, a police state.

Seems to me that all of the U.S. has essentially been Constitution-free ever since Mr. Lincoln decided preserving the Union was more important than preserving the Constitution. We are becoming more of a police state now, based on a fear of terrorists. I think it was Ben Franklin who pointed out that those who give up freedom for security will have neither.
