This is what inspired me to do a slide show on Youtube to Skully's beautiful version of Silent Night.
Let Skully tell you his story in his own words:
"My Grandmother lived in a big old house in the countryside. As a young boy, I loved to go there and spend my holidays with her. The house was full of things she had collected throughout her lifetime, beautiful things that fascinated me and all her Grandchildren.
On a shelf in the dining room, there stood a tiny little wooden church, with little stain glass windows. If you wound it, it played SILENT NIGHT on its music box.
Every year, rain hail or snow, our whole family would get together and celebrate Christmas there. The old house would echo with the laughter of Children and the chatter of busy adults catching up. Wonderful smells would waft from the kitchen, and the christmas tree.
When it was time for a break from our boisterous games, I would slip into the dining room, wind the little church, and listen to the little mechanism tinkle out SILENT NIGHT.
I remember holding it to one ear, then the other, listening to the clunking of its clockwork mechanism, while I looked through the bay window at the snow falling outside, turning her beautiful garden into a magical place.
My Grandmother is no longer with us, and we do not go to the house any more, but the music box is one of my Sisters most treasured possessions. Sadly, after years of winding, the little music box stopped working.

I wrote my version of SILENT NIGHT for my Grandmother. She gave us this wonderful memory, in my version, (if you listen on headphones) you can hear the repetitive arpeggio of the music box as it dances from left to right in the silence of the dining room, Her piano echoes through the corridors of the old house, and I added a little snow, first falling, then it starts to settle."

Thanks for posting this Darlene!
Not only is Skully a very talented and passionate musician/song writer/producer, but he is also just as passionate when it comes to History!
Skully is hands on. Not one of the musicians that supports a project by only lending music to it and watching from afar. He spent countless hours alongside volunteers restoring two of Fort Camden's rooms. Thousands came to see the finished project.

There are many other photos, but this one is one of my favorites. I can only imagine what went through Skully's mind while he was standing up there. I know for sure that he was exited and proud of what the volunteers had accomplished so far. But I also imagine that he soaked in the view, thinking of many others that once looked out the same window. Perhaps he was composing a new song at that very moment. Perhaps he was thinking about Fort Camden's future.
Skully's music comes from his soul. Listen to it and you can feel the passion......

UP DATE!
Fort Camden has opened it's gates on September 4th! The Rescue Camden Group, with help of dedicated volunteers and donations by local businesses, has renovated the first two rooms of the once abandoned Fort overlooking beautiful Cork Harbor! The rooms have been transformed into a Museum and an Art Gallery.
Hundreds of people attended the opening last weekend.
Here is what Skully and the Rescue Camden Group had to say on Facebook:
"FORT CAMDEN is uniting our community! hundreds of people from all walks of life, from all over the Country came to support us. People wept, people laughed, old friends met again, families came together.
Our small band of volunteers made it look as if we open Forts every week! Everything went off without a hitch...
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!!"
The Fort will be open to the public on a limited basis every Saturday and Sunday from 12.00pm to 5.00pm for the Month of September.

A great example of what can be done (and lots has been done in the short amount of time the project started) once a community pulls together.
Fort Camden is a magnificent fortress that looms over Cork’s beautiful harbor in the South of Ireland. Steeped in history, but badly neglected and randomly vandalized, Fort Camden is in desperate need of some TLC. Sadly it is also a race against time. Just last week ago one of the old buildings collapsed.

What started out as the dream of four men, determined to once again "breathe" life back into one of Ireland's beautiful abandoned buildings, has quickly turned into a mammoth project supported by many others. Local businesses are not only donating material such as paint and windows, but are also giving advice on how to best proceed with bringing Fort Camden back to its former glory. Historical details have to be taken into consideration as well as replacing items that have been damaged or destroyed by time and careless visitors. Former Military Personnel and Volunteers are working side by side, cleaning, painting and locating items such as missing window shutters and fireplace mantels.
A few nights a generator was used to test the lights in one of the rooms. The light shone warmly through the newly installed windows. For a brief moment Fort Camden was alive again!

First things first. Congratulations to Robert Phoenix!
Guess the grandchild couldn't wait and wanted to be there for the celebrations......
I agree with Leelee and will "whoop it up" once again this year.
As for Patch and Camac; I'll meet you in the "nether region" in 2012, since I told my Catholic great grandmother once that I would meet her there too. Guess that was my ticket to get that hot plate reserved....

"Molly Malone" from Skully's IRISH MAKEOVER CD.
Hope you enjoy. The landscape photos used in this slide show are Skully's and mine. Skully does not only create wonderful music, but as you can see also takes beautiful pictures of his favorite places in Ireland. His photos are towards the end. Mine were taken 21 years ago during an unforgettable vacation.

I have to admit that I thought you were pulling our ears, but there is a bit of Celtic sounding music at the very end of the interview. Unfortunately it is only audible for about twenty two seconds, at a very low range.
