For the last couple of days I've been seeing the "July 30 @ 8pm Seven Nations with the Atlanta Symphony" next to the sponsor link. Is there anyone else upset that they can not be there to see the show?

I listen in the afternoon while at work. I have a dial up modem at home and only listen there when I'm not surfing the net.

Moodi,

Welcome to the Celtic Radio Community, with the internet it is a very small world. I used the link in the email you sent the other day on the photos and signed up with the Skye Yahoo Group. I enjoyed reading the post on the Harry Potter crew in Portree, my wife & I stayed at the Cuillin Hills Hotel in the late 90's for our time on Skye.

I'm looking forward to watching the video. We just had our final prep meeting for our "Clan Donald 2004 AGM, a couple of the members are very interested in the video and are requesting my review once I watch my copy.

oldraven,

I grew up on PEI and went to the Technical University of Nova Scotia in Halifax (I think it is part of Dal now). Alot of people in my class received their engineering diploma's from "X". I was able to spend a couple of long weekends in Antigonish and was lucky enough to get to a few highland games there. Like most of the people in my class, we had to go west or south to get jobs. I laughed when I saw your signature with the note about Stan Rogers, my wife(also from PEI) & I listen to Stan alot and when we hear the song "The Idiot", we feel that it applies to us except we went south and not west.

I don't remember ever hearing "Nancy Whisky", once I post this I will check and see if I can request it here. For some reason "Scotland the Brave", always makes me emotional and chokes me up.

I'm a big fan of both Stan and Garnet Rogers so I'm very familiar with "Barrett's Privateers" it is a great song. I've heard it twice while living in the United States, once at an Irish pub in Boston and a year ago at the tallahasse Highland Games during the Friday Night pub. That song always seems to bring the Canadians out of the crowd and on to their feet. Have you heard the spoof song of Barrett's Privateers called "Garnet's Homemade Beer", I hear it every now and then on Highlander Radio.

Wondering if anyone knows of any good Scottish drinking songs? I grew up in Atlantic Canada where there is a large number of people with Scottish and Irish roots. When I think back to the pubs in Halifax during my University days, my trips to Cape Breton and my visits home to Prince Edward Island, almost all the sing-along-songs were Irish.

I know from hanging around the Clan Donald tent at some of the Florida Games that alot of people will stop and inquire if they are part of Clan Donald or if their family came from a Clan Donald area of Scotland. We have maps and a list of Septs (family names that are included in the Clan) and if they are a part we encourage them to join. We also have items for sale to help support us, we've raffled off a bottle of whisky a couple of times.

All our clan members ussually meet at the tent prior to the games official opening to take part in the parade and then meet back at the tent for lunch, the local members bring food and drinks. This is nice, especially when clan members from other States drop by to say hello.

I don't this helps any. I hope everything goes well for you.

As cheap as I am, I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a store that sold used kilts. I was thinking that some of the kilt rental stores would sell theirs after a while. I emailed a couple of stores but they didn't have any at this time. I'm looking for a Modern MacDonald.

Thanks...

I've been keeping an eye out for a tartan book. I'm part of Clan Donald and I can't keep track of all their tartans. I hope the bidding doesn't go too high, if so, at least it goes to a good cause.

Snow?

I haven't seen snow for over ten years. I grew up in Eastern Canada on PEI and have seen enough snow. The grass is a nice shade of green here for St. Patty's Day.

If you are interested some Scottish/Celtic Rock music, there is a couple of USA bands you should try and listen to.

My favorite is Neil Anderson, I have heard him refered to as the "The Jimi Hendrix of the highland bagpipe" www.antipypr.com

Another good band is "Seven Nations" and also "Hadrian's Wall". I Know you can download some sample mp3's from their sites.

I always wondered where I could find a Scottish Thistle plant or seeds, I knew they were weeds and that I would more than likely have to hunt for one. I never seen one growing wild. I'm glad I found these posts.

Thanks for the link shamalama, I just ordered a package and I'll let everyone know if I have a green thumb or not.

My wife and I were to Scotland in 1996 and we plan on going back in 2006. All the sights in the Highlands are awsome, there are so many places that are beautiful and if you have family from Scotland there are alot sites of interest depending on your Clan. Below in no real order, are my 10 sights which I have seen or plan to see:

Being part of Clan Donald, we spent a week on the Isle of Skye which was fantastic, we stayed at the Cuillen Hill Hotel over looking Portre.

Before the bridge on to Skye there is a famous castle if your a fan of the Highlander movies, the Eilean Donan castle is open to the public and if you get the right guide you get to hear alot of interesting stories about the castle.

The Culloden Battle field was a sobering sight, to stand on the spot where the English (and lowlander Scots) slaughtered the Highlanders and Jacobite's.

Loch Ness was an interesting place to visit, I was surprised at how large it was. Didn't see Nelly but I couldn't go home without atleast looking.

Stuart Castle near Inverness was interesting. When we were there the owners about to close it to the public and make it in to a B&B. The guide also had great stories of the castle and of its ghosts. Mary Queen of Scots was a Stuart I think and this castle may bave been built around the time she was alive. I would love to go back and spend the night.

I did not go to Glencoe but I plan on it next time. Being from Clan Donald I must go pay my respect and make sure there are no Campbells there.

Like I said I plan on going back to Scotland in 2006, in 1806 my family left the Isle of Mull to go to Prince Edward Island, Canada so I want to visit Mull on the 200th anniversary of their emigration.

Thats Seven

I never made it the Sterling, I drove by it but I would like to stop and William Wallace

I want to see the Edinborough Tatoo, I've seen the Nova Scotia Tatoo and it was great but the Edinborough one is the Meca.

Last, but not least. I fell in love with a beer at our local pub that is brewed south of Edinborough. "Traquair House" It is well known as the only inhabited residence that still brews beer for sale.

Hi all,

I've been listening to the music here for a couple of weeks and thought I may well join. I love being able to hear the different artists, I'm sure I'll be purchasing their CD's online here.

Looking forward to the new year when the Highland Games season starts again in Florida and I get to hear alot of this music live.

Take Care All.

Stevo...
