Across the field And through the trees The snow so deep It's past the knees Skates hung over A hunched right shoulder Hockey stick a Hiking staff, trudging Through the dead dry Rushes, pushed aside To make a path, and Now the pond All frozen smooth The snows' been cleared And piled up quick To mark the outline Of a Hockey rink Skates laced up Sides are chosen, We'll skate and play Our faces frozen This game will last Till the sun goes down Then all together It's Homeward bound To eat then bed And all the time Tell Mom and Dad About the game, and Tonight in sleep we'll Dream again of the Habs The Wings and Maple Leafs. |

I don't know what evoked that idea for a hockey poem but it is what hubby lived through his childhood as a young boy and though he enjoyed very much to play outside with his friends he was also a hockey player in a league as a teen...he still enjoys to go on the ice and bring his hockey stick with him to practice some shots and if there happen to be some kids playing; well he just joins in the fun with them. Thank you sharing it for it reminded me of the stories and the game I attended to see my champion in action while he was still a player in the league. LOA |
