My married name is Duncan and I have been doing some research on that name and of course it has led me to Scotland. From what I can understand it is one of the earliest names to appear in Scottish records. The gaelic name is Mac Dhonnchaidh. The name was taken from a chief of clan Donnachaidh, Fat Duncan who led the family at Bannockburn. The tartan is Duncan. The motto is Disce pati,"learn to suffer". Of course there was also MacBeth and King Duncan who were rivals, and of course Shakespeare who I don't think wrote the story just right. MaggieMahone1
