When I first made these everyone was turning up their noses and saying yuk...that is until they tried one. The first batch was gone in about 3 minutes and we were looking around to see what else we could fry ( olives, carrots, broccoli, califlower, nothing was safe.) These are now popular in some pubs and bars here in the states.

Recipe Name: Fried Dill Pickles
Category: HOR D`OEUVRE
Serves: 4

SOURCE SHADOWS

1 Cup Flour
1/4 Tsp. Salt
1/8 Tsp. Black pepper
1/2 Cup milk
1 Egg
1 1/2 Cup Dill pickle slices, thin
1/8 Tsp. cayenne pepper
Oil for frying

Many people are surprised that they love this unusual food item.

Mix the flour, salt, cayenne and pepper in a bowl. Lightly whip the egg in a separate bowl. Add the milk to the egg. Heat the oil (about 2 inches) to 325. Dip the pickle slices first into the flour, then the egg mixture, and finally back into the flour. Carefully place the pickles into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd. Fry until golden brown (about 8 minutes), turning once. Drain on paper towels. Serve warm.

I've had these at "Cock of the Walk" in Nashville Tenn. and they are great! I was one of the doubters too, until the guy I went with shoved one in my mouth. It was great! Thanks for this recipe, now I can fix them at home.

OMGs! Around these parts those are known as "Frickled Pickles". I recommend dipping them in ranch dressing.

I think I am hitting Genny's Diner for lunch today. mmmmmmm

I don't know when Genny's started serving these , but back on July 4, 1976 a bunch of us gathered at my wife's and my apartment and started frying things... including ourselves..heehee... Pickles were a joke until we did it!!!

Try olives this way and cheese... umm umm good!

pickles Speaking of funny things to do with pickles...
Yesterday, one of my friends ate her pickle with a straw- she just stuck the straw in and sucked out the insides, and THEN she ate the outer skin. I had never seen that before. I guess pickles are more versatile than I thought!!! biggrin.gif

I had these at Zanies Too in Indianapolis,IN

I also enjoy dill pickles (or pickles of all descriptions for that matter) on Peanut butter sandwiches. I think that it is the texture as much as anything that I enjoy about these.

Raven,

I do not know if I suggested this to you or not, but I also add Applebutter to that combination. Very Good indeed. wink.gif

If this is going to go the way of weird, then:

My father used to eat peanut butter, mustard, sardines, dill pickle, and on occasion he would add Limburger Cheese to his sandwich. He smelled like hell but he was grinning!!! Must have been good!

But what does this have to do with fried dill pickles??? One lady sucks a pickle through a straw and the whole topic turns upside down !!!! wink.gif biggrin.gif laugh.gif
