May the sound of Irish music
And the lilt of Irish laughter
Fill yor heart with gladness
That stays forever after.

May the lilt of Irish laughter lighten every load,
May the mist of Irish magic shorten every road,
May you taste the sweetest pleasures that fortune 'ere bestowed,
And may all your friends remember all the favors that are owed you.

No, not a song, although it could be, with a few more verses, don't you think?

May the taste of Irish Whiskey
And the taste of Irish Beer
Not make people be too risky
But only make them cheer.

This is what I thought of quickly... and the only thing that came into my mind.

I was helped by www.rhymezone.com  ;)

::viking Here is one that was sent to me.
May there always be work for your hands to do;
May your purse always hold a coin or two;
May the sun always shine on your windowpane;
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain;
May the hand of a friend always be near you;
May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

This is my favourite Irish blessing, which was recited by one of the Nuns at my school whenever you said goodbye at the end of term....!

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I got these sayings off of...www.islandireland.com

Irish Men
There are only three kinds of Irish men who can't understand women- young men, old men, and men of middle age.

No man ever wore a scarf as warm as his daughter's arm around his neck.

There's nothing so bad that it couldn't be worse.

However long the day, night must fall.

Maggie
Here's another Irish blessing that I memorised as a child (the 'benefits' of a Catholic education was that many of the nuns were Irish and imparted their wisdom to us kids, often after a 'tap' with a ruler...!)

May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
Slow to make enemies,
quick to make friends,
But rich or poor, quick or slow,
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.

Dia dhaoibh!

Having read all these Irish blessings, I was wondering if
someone knows the blessings in Irish...

I'm a beginner in Gaelic, and the only part I can translate
here in the Internet Café without my dictionary is

"May the road rise up to meet you"
which would be
"Go n-éirí an bóthar leat"
[Rough pronounciation: go nayree an bohar lat]

...an bhfuil fhios ag aon duine ar na chuile beannachtaí i nGaeilge?
...does anyone know the complete blessings in Irish?

Sincerely,
Roidsear

:D This has always been one of my favorites...

May those that love us, love us
And those that don't love us
May God turn their hearts;
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles
So we'll know them by their limping.

--------------------
Chris AKA Plain Pint

"No Irish need apply!" The man that wrote it,wrote it well
The same was writ on the gates of h*ll "No Irish need apply!"

"When money's tight and hard to get
And your horse has also ran,
When all you have is a heap of debt -
A pint of plain is your only man."
