HI,
Computer technology is not my favorite subject of discussion but I think I post this at the right place.I have decided to had a research section on my web site which is dedicate to costuming in general and not only to middle age.I want my site to look good and being interesting and stop feeling like nobody ever look at it.So what do you consider important to a web site , what will make a difference between 2 site with same info , which look it should have to be more interesting then the other one .If you have any suggestion and trick I really want to heard.Having a site is one thing but if it's not interesting and nobody read info on it .Ok so I'm listening your comments, don't be too rough but be honest.

Hi Nancy-Raven,

I'm not an expert in these matters but I have been in the web design business for long time now. Personally, I'd say what I look for most is the site's appearance and whether I'm able to navigate easily. By appearance I mean is the text easy to read. My eyesight is not as good as it used to be so if a site is difficult to read I click off. Also if I have to stop and hunt for a menu I'm more inclined to click off than stay unless it's something I really, really want to review.

I think you have a good start. After reading your site thought my first thought was creating a sewing blog. Write your projects/research down in an online journal that way you could update after each project or milestone. I think fellow sewers (not me, I don't have the patience) would find it interesting to read. You can even post pictures if you wish depending on the blogging service you use.

I noticed in your news section you spoke of changes to the site so there's no telling what you have planned. Post back when it's done.

Good luck.

As it is now, the overall feel of it is prett simple. Main thing I notice is navigatin, and the lack of sample photos to help indicate the kind of garmets you're talking about in each page. And also to help set mood and such. I'd say that re-design you describe will be a huge help.

I agree with everything that has been said, and you already have the #1 issue (in my opinion) addressed. As Myaleigh covered, it has to be easy to read. Glaring colors are not good, certainly not on a background color. Earth tones tend to be easier to read- the muted greens and browns here at CR are one example, and you're using a shade of brwon as well. This only applies to text- use as much color in your pictures as you want- but keep in mind the impact that high resolution pictures will have on loading times.
There's nothing that drives me away from a site quicker than a bright green background with bright blue text, no matter how useful the information on that site may be.
