Ok. So this is the irish dance forum. How cool is that? Anyway, I was wondering if there is any way someone who knows how to irish dance could possibly "teach" us a few steps. I mean through words and pictures...I know a little bit of the lingo but not much and I learn really well with pictures. I know how the beat of a jig and a real should go, so if anyone could do that that would be sooooooooooooo cool! Thanks.

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle
Twas St . Patrick himself, sure, that set it;
And the sun of his labour with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the
Mireland, and they call it the dear little shamrock of Ireland.

Um...wow...I'd have to say that it's not easy to teach without the music and being able to see it done. The best way to learn is by imitation. I know there's some instructional video tapes out there...but you just have to make sure you get a beginner's tape. Like always, the best way is through a teacher. However, if you'd like to come out to Maryland I'd be glad to teach ya a few things! wink.gif

I think Olive Hurley is the only Irish Step Dance teaher to produce instructional videos and her first one is a soft shoe beginner tape. However there are a lot of schools all around the country so if you look around on line its possible to find a school near where you live too. And I have to agree with Irish Stepper that it is hard to convey the motions with words and pictures and without music.

There is a pretty good one out called Celtic Feet, by the guy that replaced Michael Flatley in Riverdance.

I've heard about that one...but I also heard that it's for the more advanced dancer. I was told he assumes that whoever is watching it, already has the basics down. Have you watched it? I'd be interested to find out how it is. cool.gif

Jean Butler of riverdance has a good one out now. On DVD and very simple to watch and use. I posted this over in basics but it might be helpful if it was here too. Check out her class step dancing to U2's song "evolution"
