Hi there! I love celtic radio. I am a beginning piper, so a lot of the music inspires me to practice. I am also visually impaired, so I have found that the Irish and Scottish communities are extremely welcoming. My family has quite a bit of both in our heritage. Are any of you fellow pipers out there? I look forward to talking with you soon.
Welcome to CR. You will find a lot of interesting people here and a lot of good music too.
I can not call myself a piper though I have a set of pipes. I have only one song that I will play publicly but my dog loves all of my efforts. Maybe it stirs something in him that goes back to his ancestors, the wolves.
What inspired me to reply was your mention of visual impairment. My oldest grand daughter has some visual impairment also and is just a bit older than you. She too likes music and the thought never occurred to me that the pipes might be a possibility for her. I will be making that suggestion.
I would encourage you to keep working with the pipes. In thinking about it now it is doubtful that vision played any part in my learning curve and lack of it should not hinder anyone either. Practice, practice and practice some more. I practiced with an "air" chanter (like an air guitar) as I listened to pipe music CD's. Once it becomes instinctive you have it mastered I am told.
Hi there! THanks so much! Do you guys know anyone who could help me with this? Here is the link to the page that will describe what I need help with. Its about piping summer school. Please Donate
I checked the web site and found that none of the links worked on my system (possibly my security)
I will try to access it through my other provider but in the interim, might I make a suggestion? I had access to a high school band teacher who also taught piping. He was "OK", though my best information and training came from pipers with a near by pipe and drum corps. That was free and the most helpful. Most larger police and/or fire departments have a piper corps.
The two reasons for my lack of success are Benign Essential Tremor (affecting my fingers) and the loss of a portion of my right lung. No fault can be attributed to the instruction I received.
