In my short time here on the forum, I've seen some very interesting and unique usernames. Would anyone care to explain why they chose what they did, and if it has any special meaning?
My username has a combination of meanings.
The Avonlea part is a fictional town in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, made famous by author L.M. Montgomery, in her story Anne of Green Gables (see my signature). It was also part of the name of a Canadian television series, Road to Avonlea, based on the works of the same author. I'm a very big Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea, Prince Edward Island (PEI) and Canada fan.
The 22 is the day of the month I was married last year; December 22, 2003
I guess original I chose this name because I was the youngest of 5 sons. Later on did I find out that Mac means "Son of" in Gaelic, so I guess Son of Five makes sense?
MDF: my initials 3530: The numbers of my two favorite Chicago White Sox players, Frank Thomas (35) and Magglio Ordoñez (30).
I've been using that as a screen name since we had AOHell.

May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.
I suppose mine is rather obvious. I'm proud of my heritage as a Scotsman and also a North Carolinian. Both have a rich history that my family has been a part of. And since I didn't specify North in my username, it also covers the part of my family from South Carolina.
hmmm? OK..here goes my try at an explanation. Many years ago I paid very close attention to my dreams. They had gotten to the point that I was writing most of them in a journal and a lot of the were lucid. Many were esoteric in meaning so I tried to pick all of them apart to glean what I could. One night I had a very powerful and vivid dream where I was in a cathedral with 11 other men(all in armor) and we were all being given duties and talents. I received mine , walked outside and read the parchment given to me. It said (at least part of it): "I am Urian" It was part of an oath I was to recite. I took the name from that point on along with 2 others I got from dreams. One (shokar) I had been using for 5 or so years before and the second(lightbringer) I was given in a dream shortly after Urian. Urian Shokar Lightbringer was my name. But, being the curious person I am, I started researching the names to find out what(if anything) they meant. Much to my surprise that Urian is another name for Satan..or his right hand general(much the way Michael is god's). Lightbringer is also another name for Satan. Shokar..I have found nothing on. THis really had me bummed that the names I'd been gifted were nicknames for ,either, Satan, or, his greatest general. Then a jewish friend of mine told me that in Kabbalistic and Jewish traditions Satan isn't evil..He shines lights on your faults and wrong doings and challenges you to improve..hence Lightbringer...
With that in mind I did (and do) take more pride in the names..
is that esoteric enough for ya?

How did I come up with the name wizardofowls in the first place? Well, its a long story...
Back in the old days I used to love reading fantasy novels and playing AD&D. These pursuits consumed me. Quite literally. Every waking hour of every day was spent passionately working on an imaginary world I was creating for role-playing, or reading fantasy books, or playing AD&D with my circle of friends. I even carried a note pad around with me at work in case I was inspired with some new detail for my world!
I also used to love fantasy art. One of my favorite pieces was a painting of a wizard in purple robes on a white horse. He is surrounded by a flock of owls. The painting is beautiful and done in pastel shades of pinks and blues. The name of the painting? "Wizard of the Owls." The artist's name is Janny Wurts. It was used as the cover of a fantasy book centered around the King Arthur legends... "That Way Lies Camelot."
When I first got my computer 6 years ago, I tried and tried to find an e-mail box name that I liked that hadn't already been taken. I couldn't find anything. Finally, out of desperation, I typed in the name wizardofowls, and surprise, surprise, it was accepted! I have a terrible memory, and trying to remember what sign-in name I used on different web groups is beyond me, so out of habit I always use wizardofowls. So now, not only do I have 2 e-mail boxes in that name, but I have also subscribed to 14 Yahoo Gaelic groups, 1 MSN Gaelic group, 2 Gaelic e-mail lists, a Gaelic forum, and this group, all under the name wizardofowls.
I am a Christian now, and don't mess with fantasy anymore but I still use the name since it would be such a pain to change my name on all of those lists.
I will try to attach a copy of the painting below...

'S i Alba tìr mo chridhe. 'S i Gàidhlig cànan m' anama. Scotland is the land of my heart. Gaelic is the language of my soul.
My username has a quite simple explanation. I would assume most of you are familiar or have heard of the Glengarry Bhoys. They are from Glengarry County, Ontario and play Celtic rock. I met them way back when there were only two of them sometime in 1997 I think. I stuck with them as the band changed and evolved and supported their growing fan base by creating and moderating a Yahoo Group for them. A group of us who hardly ever missed a gig in the NE were called the "Ghirls" (as opposed to the name of the band-Bhoys). I was the original "Ghirl" having coined the name for those of us hardcore Fhans that showed up at gigs constantly in PA, NY, NJ, and DE. So, hence I'm "OriginalGhirl"
Well, my first name is James...and I have never really liked it. James is to formal, I rREALLY don't like Jim and Jamie was just out. So I started going by my middle name Alex (short for Alexander). One day, I was browsing around at names (we are thinking of producing a fourth....must be nuts) and found this name (Iago) on a Welsh baby names site. It is actually a derivative of James. I thought, how cool!
Then, afterwards I was reminded of Iago from Othello.......

Madadh is the name of my grey haired buddy in the avitar. it is short for Clocknaben Madadh Mor or Big dog of the fire mountain. He was born in Scotland and I miss him
First, Immortal: My AOL screenname is DynamisImmortal, the Dynamis coming from a queen in the Crimea during the early Roman Empire, and the Immortal coming from my love of vampire literature and a loathing for adding a bunch of confusing numbers at the end.
Avalon got added here because I found this place while running search for stuff about King Arthur in France. It took me to the Brittany forum where I read some of the Arthurian posts, and, true to form, just had to put in my two cents worth. Of course, it didn't hurt that I just love Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon and the other books in that series, either, lol.
To answer this question I should try to explain what "gaberlunzies" are. Scotland was a poor country...the only real wealth had always been the possess of land which was rare to get and the rich people have been the landowners. For most of the other folk, even for advocats, teachers or craftsmen it was difficult to earn a life...and most difficult for those who didn't have the possibility to work for a life and who became beggars. Now there have been many of them who had been soldiers who had been wounded and crippled in battles. For those villages and towns gave a permission to stay inside the municipality as beggars. They handed them small metal pieces, some round like medals, some longish, which were the official sign that the person who owns them was allowed to be a beggar. They were treated much more friendly than the "common" beggar folks, too. Those metal pieces were called "gaberlunzies". I loved the idea that they had been travelling the whole country, villages and towns with their owners and asked myself, "What if they could speak...which stories they could tell!"
This is why I chose this nickname.

Well I am normally not very good at screennames but I like this one a lot. I decided to join a Lord of the Rings group on MSN and we needed to have a LOTR sounding name. I decided to take the English version of my name and just add star I wanted it to just be plain Ceciliastar but apparently it had already been picked so I added the one. Not a very interesting story. By the way the LOTR sight is no longet in existence, hopefully my name does not cause a jinks. LOL!

There's a dear little plant that grows in our Isle Twas St . Patrick himself, sure, that set it; And the sun of his labour with pleasure did smile, And with dew from his eye often wet it. It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the Mireland, and they call it the dear little shamrock of Ireland.
