If you are a "special interest" group, English Heritage will sometimes grant you special access, if it doesn't clash with anything else.

Your best bet is to find a tour group that runs special outings to Stonehenge when you can get closer to the stones than the ordinary tourist. Otherwise try and contact local pagan groups who may be able to help out.

To be honest, Stonehenge is not the best stone circle to visit; its overpowered by the tourist industry. If you can, visit Callanais on the Isle of Lewis, where you don't need special permission. There are plenty of stone circles in Aberdeenshire where you are often with them on your own. Even Avebury, near to Stonehenge is a better circle, IMNSHO.

I find myself drawn to Bast, the Cat Goddess, and she tends to find Her way into any of the research I've done on any religious belief. Anubis does the same thing, only He is more... elusive.

If I were ever to make the trip to visit a Sacred Site.. I'd love to walk the Tor at Glastonbury. Don't ask my why, but it Calls to me more than the StoneHenge does.

The other place I'd like to visit is The Major Oak in Sherwood.. but that's for another reason entirely...
