Antwn,
You are totally right. Thank you for correcting the oversight. I should have included Wales and Scotland with the Irish when contrasting the insular Celts who kept much of their Celtic identity while the Celts living in what is now England pretty much lost their Celtic identity following the successive waves of Roman, Anglo-Saxon,, Viking, a nd Norman invasions, and now consider themselves English, not Celts.
My apologies for creating confusion by overlooking the Scots and Welsh (I must have been really tired at the tlime, given my own Scots heritage).

I well remember Mt. Helens--I watched it erupt while living in Tacoma, WA, which fortunately was mostly upwind, so we only got a minor dusting.

The Insular Celts are the Celts of the British Isles. The Celts were a diverse group of tribes with a common culture and language. It should be noted that it is unclear at what point the indigenous tribes of Great Britain acquired Celtic culture and language. DNA studies have shown a continuity of the same people living in the British Isles since shortly after the end of the last Ice Age. During the Bronze Age and/or Iron Age they acquired Celtic culture and language, even though there is no evidence for large-scale migration from the continent. In what is now England, the Celtic tribes (then known as Britons--they did not refer to themselves as Celts) first became Romano-Britons, after the Roman conquest, then they became Anglo-Saxon (after the poorly-documented Anglo-Saxon conquest), then Anglo-Norman, then English. In the process, the English lost much or most of their Celtic heritage and are no longer considered Celts.
Because the Irish resisted foreign occupation far longer than other Celtic peoples and never became "Anglicized" even after being conquered by the English, they have retained far more of their Celtic identity than other peoples with a Celtic heritage.

I use a nasal pillow mask with my CPAP. It basically just covers my upper lip and directs the air into my nose. It's considerably less obtrusive than the mask that covers your nose and mouth.

I had a sleep study in early 2007. Exact procedure no doubt varies from one center to another, but in my case once the sensors were all attached my movements were fairly restricted.
The results were fairly dramatic. I did not sleep more than 2 minutes before I stopped breathing and woke up. I was getting no REM sleep at all. After being hooked up to a CPAP, I immediately went into two hours of REM sleep.

I'm in the 65 or over group that is not on the list to receive the swine flu vaccine due to probably already having immunity, but cannot help recalling the last time a vaccine was rushed out to prevent an epidemic. IIRC, the vaccine caused more problems than the flu did.

I have been using the mobile version of Live 365 for several months now, mostly at the gym and in my car.
For someone like myself who can remember the days before transistor radios, the ability to listen to internet radio on the go is simply amazing.

Personally, I kind of like 46 degrees for camping--very pleasant temp for sleeping. Of course, I've also done tent camping with my scout troop when it was 20 below.
I camped at a reenactment in Neshaminy State Park, PA, a couple of weeks ago, and will be doing the same at Newtown Battlefield Park near Elmira NY this week-end.

I have heard quarantine mentioned several times on the news today. If that happens your access to good medical will be limited to what the govt provides. Think about that!!!

You don't suppose that's why the government is trying so hard to convince people that there is a crisis?

Agree with Patch on the need to be careful. I was all set to sign up for Part D when I found out that doing so would result in termination of my retirement health, which I need so my wife will have coverage until she is eligible for Medicare.
It seems like you need an attorney and an accountant to sort through all the options.

Thanks for the clarification. For some reason, the newspaper articles don't display for me. Whether the Irish Free State government is considered to be patriots who settled for the best they could get under the circumstances or traitors who sold out to the English, they certainly proved to be as capable of brutally suppressing rebellion as the English were. IMHO, the English are responsible for the Troubles in Northern Ireland as well as for creation of the situation resulting in the Irish Civil War.

Forgive my confusion, but it's not clear whether we are talking about executions by the English prior to and during the War of Independence (prior to establishment of the Irish Free State in 1921), by the Irish Free State (1921 both during the Irish Civil War and until establishment of the Republic of Ireland), by the Republic of Ireland, or by the English in the Northern Counties still under English rule. Probably technicalities to most, but important to some.
For examples of the circumstances under which letters were written, I highly recommend the movie The Wind Shakes the Barley, showing just how fratricidal the Irish Civil War was between the faction of the IRA that accepted the Irish Free State and the faction that did not.

Nice to see your pride in being a Pict. Notwithstanding the lack of documentation, there is no doubt that many folks of Scots descent are also of Pict descent, although not all are willling to admit such.

I was in the Air Force from 1963 1970, as a (Vietnamese) airborne voice intercept operater flying in the back of a variety of aircraft monitoring, analyzing, and reprting on North Vietnamese fighter voice communications.
I think Highstepper pretty much nailed the differences in the various branches.
Believe it or not, from 67 to 69 I was literally commuting to the war zone from Okinawa--3 hour flight to orbit area, 12 hours on orbit over the Gulf of Tonkin or Laos, then 3 hours back home. Something fairly unique to aircrews.
While enlisted aircrew slots can be hard to get, anyone who does get one receives extra training, pay,and adventure.

2-4-D, one of the main ingredients in many lawn care products, was also one of the main ingredients of Agent Orange, the weed-killer used in Viet Nam, the toxic effects of which continue to kill those I served with at DaNang Air Base. If I stay in a store like Home Depot or Lowe's for more than a few minutes I soon have a headache and need to go home and rest for a few hours, which I strongly suspect is a result of the lawn care product fumes in the air to which I suspect I have been sensitized to as a result of my own exposure to Agent Orange. My wife and I long ago gave up using lawn and garden chemicals and have a much healthier lawn and garden as a result.
