I gave up on that a while back. Every time I would try to turn on the Music this thing would tell me that I have to down load this program or that and then I do and then I still couldn't get any music. After trying several time at this, I just gave up on it. So if I do want to hear any music, I just throw in one of my CDs but for the most part I just sit here is silence.

We changed our internet provider to NetZero to try for a month and now I can't get the music cause their speed is not fast enough. Going back to Greater By Net provider. No music not going to stay with them.
The NetZero I don't see during usage is really not any faster than Dialup.

I can't listen either. I always listened at work before, but since changing streaming providers I can't hear anything. The new provider wants to force you to either use their player or to use Real Player, neither of which works inside the corporate firewall. Only Winamp seems to work, but I can't get it to work now.

I hope the powers that be are reading this thread.

Yeah, me too.

I'm sitting behind a corporate firewall on a NT box (to be XP in about a month). I can install anything I want (Winamp, Real, etc.) but it appears like they've got the ports closed.

I could listen using Windows Media Player before (not Winamp though), even through the firewall. But either Live365 has me stumped, or their ports are blocked. Nothing is working now.

I have tried and tried and still can't hear my beloved Celtic music. I used to be able to tune in using Winamp, but now it doesn't seem to want to go through the firewall. I've had to revert to listening to '80s stuff, which is great, but not my first choice.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to the listen button... then once you are at the 365 page make sure to look all the way down the page. There are several types of players or ways to be directed to HR.
I hope that helps....

Ok, I admit it, I'm whining! But the dratted firewall seems to be the problem. It doesn't like locally run "players". It doesn't like the one from Radio Free Virgin either. I don't understand why. I entered the address of the proxy server and that usually does the trick. It's letting me enter this post right now. Oh, well, I guess I'll be relegated to listening at home.

OK, I am going to try and help since I am sitting on NASA netspace listening to winamp playing highlander radio via live365... not bragging, just saying that where I work has one of the tightest firewalls in existance.

First thing with live365 - if you have a popup blocker, this will impeed the ability to play the music. If you can, turn it off for a bit, or control + mouse click on the big speaker button. This should spool a little loady thing, if you have winamp or real player set up as your default player for this type of music (.wav, mp3, and internet spools).

You can set this up one of two ways. First, get a live365 account, not a paid one, just the freebie account. Once you validate it, click on the tab that says "my live365" under that heading, you'll see "listening options". Under that heading, you'll see connection speed, MP3 player, and Audio Ad Content filter. Set the MP3 player to the option you wish to use... I have mine set for "MP3 Player (e.g. Sonique, Winamp (2.8 and higher), MusicMatch)", but there is an option for RealPlayer, and Windows Media Player. Streaming audio over live365 isn't different than how Highlander Radio was doing it... I believe the standard stream ports for shoutcast are 8000 and 8001 udp and/or tcp, and realplayer uses 7070-7170 tcp/udp depending on what generation of realplayer... G2 uses a 570 port, I believe. Anyway, what I am trying to say is live365 uses the same ports, its a range that is used for the Digital Audio Application Protocal. Anyway... thus endeth the internet protocal lesson.

The second way to ensure this is to go into the music player of choice and go to the options or preferences, choose to associate all music mediums to the player, and check "maintain these associations" this should force the music spool to read to the player.

This is way above my head. unsure.gif

I will just listen to my Golden tune of Sound of Silence. wink.gif

Danann,
I can't find on any of my players where to set the port. The only place where ports settings seem to appear is in Winamp where it asks for the proxy server:port. I keep getting an error saying that the player can authenticate via the proxy server. Very frustrating. I've done everything else you've suggested.

Thanks for trying!
