Will you feel the feeling after waking up and just thinking that you were not there for the time you were asleep? Will you stay like that for enternity? Will you go to heaven or hell? Will God save you? Or will you Simply Cease to exsist alltogether and forget all that ever occured, not know what is occuring? Will you simply stop, and not know anything beyond death, no heaven, no conciessness no nothing? What do you think? I think that its endless to the things that people belive could happen, Does death Scare you or not? What lies beyond? Lets discuss here.

The very idea that life is a dream within a dream, in itself is an interesting concept, and every bit as feasible as any other belief. As to what happens after we draw our last breath, (your guess is as good as mine). As for our spirits living on, I’ll leave my spirit that to my daughter, and anyone else I made an impression on. As to being afraid to die, I find that life itself can often become monotonous, and sometimes “painful”. I can remember my Mother calling for God to take her, because of the body bending pain of Arthritis. (I wish I had half her strength). Like I’ve said on one of these threads befor, my hope for the so called “Hereafter” is here, and nowhere else!

As I reject the concept of a God I do however acknowledge a Creator and that Creator is the Universe itself. All things from the smallest microbe to humans are formed from the basic elements in a variety of combinations. The one common denominator is that they are all a form of energy. Under the laws of physics as we understand them energy can neither be created nor destroyed. It is my belief that when a body ceases to function the energy contained within is released to rejoin the Universe. Whether it is reused I know not but I suspect that as the Universe is growing and evolving it will find some use for it. As for fearing death. No I do not fear it. I do not welcome it but I accept it as inevitable.

So many possibilities. Camac's comment is good, and I fully agree with most of it. Can't decide if there is a god or not, since it is so illogical to fathom an explanation of who created the god, as well as "how can there be some kind of hell when a spirit wouldn't be able to feel any kind of pain or pleasure".

Many people I know swear that this earthly life actually is either hell or purgatory. I also have frequently thought that perhaps there is reincarnation, and hell is actually coming back as a human who suffers (after all there is no good explanation for why some people DO suffer so much and others luck out on everything!).

I am certain that our energy is not lost when we die and does end up somewhere else or as something else, other than that I would be just guessing as to what happens after death.

This would help explain suffering being so inequitable.

Anyone who has ever seen a dead body recognises an empty vessel / container. The body is no longer the "person" we knew, it is simple empty.

What happens with the contents and were it goes is for many their religious belief or philosophical understanding.

In another post I talk about how life comes to every one the same, how you chose to relate to that is your religion or belief paradigm.

thecelticgiraffe;

I cannot remember who first said it but I do adhere to the basis behind it "God Created Man in order for Man to Create God". Through out existence humanity has sought for and created reasons for that selfsame existence. there has also been conflict over the method by which we came into being. Evolution, Creationism , the so called Space Seed Theory, etc. etc. In my opinion these are questions far beyond the realm of humanity to answer. I am here and that is what counts. Am I in Hell? No. I have had a good life and I have not been unduly punished or burden for any so called transgressions. Is there Evil in this world? Yes. Is it the provence of Satan? No. Evil is the property of humanity solely owned, operated and visited upon itself. One of the great imponderables of Humanity is "Why am I here"? Well we are here for a reason and maybe just maybe that reason is that The Universe is trying to understand itself.

While I do believe in God, I also understand other points of view after all isn't life just one question and death another? Life is the physical and death the Spiritual? I believe in the afterlife but what form it takes, does my soul enter another or whatever remains to be seen.

this is something that i think every person wonders at some point in their life. what is there after life and what will it be like? being creatures that can think and reason through things i believe that it is only our nature to think about things we really can never have answer to. personally i am unsure what will happen on that fateful day where we each draw out last breath i want to believe that out "soul" would live on but the idea of that just brings more questions out into the open. as for heaven and hell again those ideas are based entirelly on religion and if you take that away then what is left? again more ideas to think about and many more questions left to be answered. i would like to know what the rest of you think about that and just get your input.

I have watched two family members pass and I do believe there is an after life. An employee related the death of his father to me. It was not peaceful and serene. Probably there is a bad after life also. I do believe there is a God. I believe that life is sacred but should not be artificially prolonged when no possibility of quality life is possible. Each person must determine when quality of life is gone.

I have discussed this with my Parish Priest to insure that my views were in compliance with he Churches position. I was suprised in that food and medication could be with held but not hydration. That extends passing to over 30 days. Also, pain medication could be administered at whatever level was necessary to relieve suffering. Even if that level was toxic. It is all in how you make your decision.

I fully expect to be reunited with my loved ones when my time comes, especially my dear wife Meggs. Sure hope I am not disappointed.

I had a friend who believed in reincarnation and she had quite an argument for the idea. That is a whole new topic though.

QUOTE (Patch @ 19-Apr-2008, 05:01 PM)
I have watched two family members pass and I do believe there is an after life...

We too have recently dealt with the passing of my father-in-law and my husband's aunt; what struck me was that in both cases, they could see a long-deceased loved one (mother) in the room and they were calmed by this presence... they smiled, and would say 'look, she's waiting for me'. At the moment of death there was serenity and peace. Absolutely fascinating!

I've always had an open mind to different belief systems, different concepts of God/higher power and the universe we inhabit. I won't be pointing fingers and saying anyone else is right or wrong - but I will say the conclusions of other major belief systems have left me unsatisfied. After serious consideration and years of exploration, I've always come 'round to the irresistablity of Jesus Christ. His teachings, especially the concept of grace, are so outrageous - so radical - and best of all, they've changed me and given me hope. Each day is a new adventure, each day holds blessings and opportunity. And in tough times He has worked in my life in such a dramatic way I have no doubt now. I question things, constantly -I understand, sometimes - but doubt Him? No.

So my view of death and afterlife is based on Christ's teachings: yes there is an afterlife, yes at the moment of death you go to a 'place' (what he said to that other guy on a cross during their crucifixion is something I go 'round and 'round - what hope He gave!) and yes there is a lot more go come after death.

--------------------
"All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king..."

this is something i thought of a while ago and while i never really talk about it with people i know it is something to ponder. what if everything and everyone we know isnt real? what if our life is really just a dream? maybe we already are dead and our essence keeps us in these dream filled lives that we go through everyday. i know i dont explain it very well but you never know. maybe this all is just a collection of thoughts and memories from millions of people are we are all living in a dream that we only leave when our true selves finally wake up.

Maybe I'm here very lonesome with my belief, that there is anything after the life.

I can't image that somebody (however named) is cognizant for the Creation and after a hard, short life with many problems, disagreeablenesses and pain everybody (who has deserved) invites to share in an eternal glory.

Sorry, I don't want to offend religious sensibilities. (not only christian...)

I believe all live is going in the order of natural laws. The strongest and best adapted individuals survive longest.
I think all life (ab initio - r.a. 4,5 billion years) is an great "try and mistake". Nature needed r.a. 3,5 billion years to create the first protein molecules, wich you can name (with a lot of cautious optimism) life. All after that was "only" adaption and upgrade.
Also the human race too. Our "apish" ancestors was successfully with bigger brains, with an erectly kind of walk etc pp
We as the human race are for the time the highest position, because we are able to think about us . And we are able to change our environment (as the only creature on this globe). (off topic: I don't know if that is a boone or a bane)
It is logical that the human think about god, dead, a life after and many other things too, which for them actually unexplainable. Our brain is too efficient for survive only and too inefficient to understand all.

What is the death for me: Anything others as an incorrectable mailfunction of one or more vital organs.

I think everybody has one (and only one) chance to make himself a good, fullfilling life. Everybody can create his own heaven or his own hell - on earth.
Everybody (of us humans) is responsible for, that the next generation has this chance too.

Once more, I don't want offend sensibilities. I respect all people who believe in (a) god, who believe in a life after death but I can't believe in these.
Incase I hurt anyone, I apologize profusely for that.

Ingo

Death. What could happen.

I think that can be answered with one word; PEACE.
