Probably within the next month we are going to add a new feature to our site that will allow for a direct link to download the song you hear for only 99 cents! This option will only be available on select songs.

We will be working with a company out of Scotland that will have the largest available catalog of Celtic songs available to download.

One of the most difficult aspects of being a Celtic music fan is trying to figure out what CDs have the songs on there that you want. Sometimes there might just be one song out of a whole CD and who wants to spend $17.99 for the whole CD!

If you are interested in this type of service, please respond to this poll. Any questions about this new service can be posted here.

Great idea Macfive ! It's sometimes difficult for me to find in France the CDs I heard on HR wink.gif

I, of course, voted yes, but exactly how would it work? Pay .99 cents every time we download or pay one sum for how many songs we download over a certain period?

Posted by: Aaediwen 14-Nov-2004, 05:21 AM
Not sure how much I'd use it personally, because generally by the time I'm ready to buy, I've already found 2 or more from the CD I like. But this would be a great way to handle those occasions when I only find one song I like.(Aselin Debison comes to mind)

Posted by: Avonlea22 14-Nov-2004, 07:17 AM
ok, well, I meant to hit the Yes button, but my mouse was drawn to the bigger button, and I clicked null vote. My mistake.

It's a nice option to have. I may or may not use it. I don't currently have a CD burner, nor a portable media device, so it probably wouldn't get too much use from me.

The service will be offered by Uist Media, a company based in Scotland with U.S. offices. They are going to have one of the largest Celtic music collections available to download.

We are going to integrate our music library so that links will be provided to download 1 song, all songs of the album or purchase the CD. I do believe you need to purchase atleast $9.99 in credits to get you started with the downloading. Uist Media has mentioned about having a possible discount for CelticRadio.net members, but this is all in the planning stages right now.

More importantly, this partnership with Uist Media drives home our commitment to providing legal music services to our members and listeners. We want our name to be one that both musicians and listeners can trust that we are honest, legal and offering valuable services.

We would never have the legal capacity to offer the wealth of record label Celtic music that Uist has available. In return for providing these links we will receiving a 5% commission on any sales, but more importantly, I thought this really adds a really nice feature to our site that would be impossible to duplicate on our own.

Look for this sometime in December, at the lastest the first of the year.

What an awesome feature! There have been more than one occasion that I wanted a song, but either couldn't find the CD, or wanted only that song!

AWESOME!

Absolutely. There's a bunch on here that I'd love to have, but I'm hesitant to buy the whole CD. Besides, I'm not sure if I could find them in the first place.

Posted by: sir_tal 18-Nov-2004, 04:13 PM
I voted yes, but I doubt I'll use it. I've not seen an instance where I wanted to just download a song. I would usually much rather purchase the whole album. HOWEVER, that being said, the option to do it if I find it necessary is definitely worth a yes. smile.gif It's a good idea.

For Sure, I would use it. Will it work for Canadians? I notice iTunes does not work in Canada only the U.S., and some countries in Europe.

Great feature to add though.

This would be an amazing feature to have on the radio! Do you have any idea when it would be in affect? Would it be in pay pal or credit card???

Posted by: dundee 29-Nov-2004, 02:05 PM
ok i voted yes .... but i want it FREE!!!!!!!
yes i am cheap. and i want to get my posting rate up a bit higher

Posted by: Macfive 29-Nov-2004, 07:29 PM
These will be paid songs available through a third-party service, but linking up with our own song database.

No, they will not be free.

this is good
but I am more traditional
I'd prefer CD, because I'd prefer to convert from CD to high-fidelity audio format: 160k ogg
it's hardly to tell the difference with CD
this format has up to 500k, comparable with SACD or DVD-Audio
highly recommended if you make music files on your own

This is a cool idea! If I had a credit card, I would be MADLY downloading everything I could find! smile.gif

It's a good idea!

There are a few songs I like and wouldn't mind downloading them for a small fee.

Keep up the good work MacFive!

Its still on the plate so to speak. The company that we are working with is finishing up programing on there end of things.

They mentioned the programming should be done by February, I'll follow up with them today.

I vote yes. I think it is a grand idea. I am not sure if I would or wouldn't use it but it is a comfort to know if I want the song I can get it.
Keep up the good work Paul!

I just heard from the developer from the company that will be providing the downloads and their product should be ready in a number of days. Basically we will try to sync up our database so that any songs in their catalog will be flagged in our database with a link to their download, etc. Im sure more details will follow!

Posted by: Macfive 25-Feb-2005, 08:22 PM
Ummm, could be here next week.....we will see as they have just finished up their affiliates program.

Through this service we will be able to offer 10,000+ downloads through traditional tunes that you can play on your ipods and such.

For the first time, I am about to legally download a song.

I bought a 20-ounce Pepsi the other day and I won a free download from iTunes.

I don't know what I'm gonna download ohmy.gif !

Too many choices biggrin.gif !

Probably something Celtic biggrin.gif !

Thank God I can play a 30 second preview!

It's not gonna be any Metallica songs though. I have all their albums (except for the most recent one, which I refuse to buy!), so I can get any Metallica song I want that way.

To be honest I have never downloaded anything don't know how. I do like Metallica but I know they don't like people downloading. Let me know what you pick and how it goes.....the process not the song// laugh.gif

My favorite U2 song, "Sunday Bloody Sunday" biggrin.gif .

I had to enter my credit card info to add iTunes Music Store to my Apple account and then entered the promotional code to get my account credited with a free download.

Sounds pretty easy. I like that song too.

Just a little update on this Download Music project:

We are currently working on this project and hopefully will have it completed within 1 weeks time.

TradTunes.com will be the official location to purchase the music tracks. Right now we are working to hook up our databases with their database so we can cross reference all tracks that TradTunes and CelticRadio share.

Once that is done we will be adding to our playlist pages links to any songs that match up. There will also be links on our now playing pages to purchase the song from the album.

Looking ahead to a related project I would like to do is a desktop application (windows) that will display all of the song details, the album cover and of course buylinks. This would be something that you could leave open on your desktop in a little window that would update as the song changes. There would be no advertising or anything like that, but we might make this feature only available to Founder Club members.

Things are happening on CelticRadio.net! thumbs_up.gif

An update on this project. It will be a few more weeks until we have the databases sync'd up with traditional tunes (the company providing the downloads). One unforseen feature that I just became aware of is that our playlist pages will contain previews to the songs. We will be redesigning the playlist pages for this information.
