Greetings to all! I'm so thrilled to find this community. Congrats to CelticRadio.net for setting up such a cool place.

My grandparents (father's side) immigrated to the US from Motherwell in Scotland, and I'm Scots on the other side, too, so things Scottish have been catching my fancy my whole life. And sometimes it seems, they've been chasing me down! My childhood pastor was Scottish, and my childhood best friend's father was Scottish. And it was strange because I grew up in San Francisco, not a particularly concentrated area of European heritage!

I moved to the East Coast for school and then through an odd series of events ended up as I am now, raising sheep on a small farm in North Carolina. I train and handle Border Collies to work the sheep, which means I'm practically immersed in UK culture all the time. biggrin.gif

Two of my best trainer friends are immigrants from Scotland. One of them is from the Highlands and speaks Gaelic natively - I am so envious! We both love to sing but, wow, even when I know the words it's hard to keep up! My college degree is in language and I have learned or dabbled in several, but Gaelic (Gaidhlig) is the hardest one I've tried so far (oh drat, I didn't see that "i").

So here I am, hoping to learn more. I've said more than enough here so I'll lurk for a good while. Maybe. angel_not.gif

You are very welcome, Ms Shepherdess!

In looking at your picture, it brings back lots of memories for me - my uncle raised sheep in Kansas and I had a collie - Flip - and a lamb that I raised (with help I imagine) when I was three years old - her name was Puppy (never let a three year old name something that kind of looks like a little dog!).

Anyway, I do envy you, since that's a great life to have - the memories I have are all great!

Have a great day and give your collies a hug from me!

Hello Shepherdess! Welcome from North Carolina. As we say 'round here, pull up a chair and set a spell; make yourself to home. smile.gif Which end of the state are you? Used to know a fellow near Clemmons that raised herding dogs. I'm farther east now (near Sanford). Sounds as if you have a pretty cool life. (BTW, my younger son and his wife live in the Bay area. Small world.)

Hello Scotsman!

How are your young'n's doing here? We're having a bit of good weather this summer - not even had to turn on the AC yet - reminds me when my wife and I came out this way 18 years ago - so nice to get away from the heat and humidity of Long Isand!

Hope yer fair'n well - take care!

CarolinaScotsman I think I know who you are talking about - Dean, right? Just saw him weekend before last at a sheepdog trial. I used to be in Stokes County and now I'm in Person, up north ("nawth" as they say around here) from Durham. Gorgeous area - I love it. It's fashionable among my sheepdog friends to say they want to live in Scotland. I don't, really - I'd just love Scotland to move HERE. biggrin.gif

C'mon, y'all, I've sixty acres free in the back and my landlord has another 100 - bring your caravans or buy one here! cool.gif

I send a very warm "How are y'all!" from Georgia. I have been wandering through the CR forums for only one week and have really enjoyed getting to know everyone here. You will find that they are a great group of people.

Muircheartach, the kids are doing great. Working and playing hard; dang, wish I were 27 again. wink.gif

Sheperdess, must admit that I don't remember the man's name. Met and spoke with him a few times, but it's been over thirty years ago now. Dang, wish I were 27 again. wink.gif Am I repeating myself? Am I repeating myself?

Hi Bill,

I'm glad to hear that your kids are doing great, but would we really want to be 27 again? cool.gif I'm glad that I'm nearly six decades old and wished that I was retired! However, I still have the yoke on and will for the next decade, God willing!

Have a great week - try not to repeat yourself too much! tongue.gif
