I hope that this list will not grow too large but there are always festivals which fade away over the years. Sometimes due to mismanagement, sometimes to uncooperative weather but usually due to the lack of support from corporate sponsors and patrons. Make sure to get out to the festivals and show your support!!

The second annual http://www.celticnationsfestival.com/ in Vacaville, California took place on June 26 and 27, 2004. Unfortunately, there will not be a third annual festival due to inadequate funds.

Thanks for keeping us posted on this Keltic. I know it will help a lot of people - what a great idea. It is a shame that these events close down due to lack of funding. Hopefully this list will not get too long!

TEXAS - Corpus Christi


Apparently, the South Texas Celtic Music Festival is reorganizing and will hopefully re-emerge under the umbrella of the South Texas Celtic Music Association. According to the website (http://www.southtexascelticfestival.org/), there are no events scheduled for 2005 which means that the festival that was previously listed as taking place on November 12, 2005, is not happening.

LOUISIANA - Jackson

Due to the lack of available hotel rooms in the Baton Rouge area, the 2005 Highland Games of Louisiana were cancelled. The next Games have been scheduled to take place on November 17-19, 2006. http://www.lahighlandgames.com/

FLORIDA - Tallahassee

The Tallahasse Celtic Festival, originally scheduled to take place on November 19, 2005, has been postponed until February 11, 2006. Many volunteers are busy with aiding in the recovery from Hurricane Katrina and are unable to put in the time needed leading up to the festival. http://www.tallahasseecelticfestival.com/

OHIO - Cincinnati


Cincinnati Folk Life has announced that it will not be presenting the "Celtic World Festival" in 2006. Originally slated for September 23 and 24, 2006, the festival which would have celebrated it's 15th year, should return in 2007. Florida- Tallahassee



Tallahassee Celtic Festival. This was canceled again this past Saturday by the police because of rain. The festival should be re-scheduled.

Shasta Highlands Renaissance and Celtic Faire


A bit after the fact, but the Shasta Highlands Renaissance and Celtic Faire which was originally to take place on May 6-7, 2006 in Anderson, California was cancelled. They are hoping to be able to bring it back for 2007.

North Georgia Celtic Festival


The North Georgia Celtic Festival in Gainesville, Georgia will not be taking place this year. The festival previously took place on July 23 and 24, 2005. They are hoping to find some way to revive it for 2007. There is a press release on their website. http://www.emeraldrose.com/ngcf/

Sarnia Highland Games


Although, 2005 saw a record number of competitors, the number of spectators has dwindled. Fund-raising efforts fell short and therefore, the Sarnia Highland Games, originally slated to take place on August 18 and 19, 2006 in Sarnia, Ontario will not be held. Seacoast Irish Festival


It has been announced that the Seacoat Irish Festival in Dover, New Hampshire will not be held in 2006. The festival has run for the past three years and last took place on August 27 and 28, 2005. http://www.seacoastirishfestival.com/

Alabama Highland Games


The Alabama Highland Games which take place in Montgomery, Alabama will not take place this September. They are planning on returning in September of 2007. As is a recurring theme with festivals around North America, volunteers are desperately needed as well as sponsorship.

Tallahassee Celtic Festival


The Tallahassee Celtic Festival, first rescheduled to February of 2006 which in turn was rained out and rescheduled to October 7 & 8, 2006, has again been cancelled. Reasons given are lack of funds and volunteers.

Rio Rancho Highland Games


The Rio Rancho Highland Games held in Rio Rancho, New Mexico will not be taking place this October. The last festival took place October 15 and 16, 2005. A date has already been posted for the festival to take place in 2007. The next festival is to take place on October 20 and 21, 2007.

Arcadia Valley Celtic Festival


The Arcadia Valley Celtic Festival held in Arcadia, Missouri has been cancelled. The eighth annual festival was to be held on April 20-22, 2007 but was unable to recover from a couple of bad years. You can visit the website at http://billthedoc.tripod.com/.

Celtic Folk Festival


The Celtic Folk Festival held annually in Rio Grande, Ohio has been cancelled. The last event took place on June 17, 2006. No reason is given on the website nor does it state whether or not the cancellation goes past the 2007 event.

Springfield Highland Games and Celtic Festival


The Springfield Highland Games and Celtic Festival have been cancelled for 2008. Scheduled to take place on May 17, 2008, the event could not be held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds due to massive electrical problems at the site. Attempts to find an alternative site were unsuccessful. The Pocono’s Greatest Irish Festival


The Pocono’s Greatest Irish Festival scheduled for May 24 and 25, 2008 has been cancelled. This event has been held annually at Jack Frost Mountain in Pennsylvannia since 1987. Southern New Hampshire Scottish Games and Celtic Music Festival


The Southern New Hampshire Scottish Games and Celtic Music Festival have been put on hold for 2008. They were scheduled to take place on June 7, 2008 in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. They are hoping for a return in 2009.

Ironicly, as recently as ten days ago the billboards for the event were still up alongside the local highways.
There's a nice chunk of money wasted.

All Things Scottish Celticfest


All Things Scottish Celticfest, held annually in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been cancelled for 2008. The event, originally scheduled for Sept 20, 2008, cannot be held due to heavy damage to the venue caused by flooding in Cedar Rapids.

The event will be back on September 19, 2009.

Flora Macdonald Highland Games


After 34 years, the Flora Macdonald Highland Games has been cancelled. The Games took place annually in October in Red Springs, North Carolina. One of the reasons cited as a deciding factor was "...the apparent declining interest in Highland Game activities.".

Celtic Festival and Crafts Faire


The Celtic Festival and Crafts Faire, held annually in October in Amarillo, Texas, will not be held in 2008. A return is planned for the fall of 2009. The cancellation of this years event is due to reorganization.

Celtic Nations Heritage Festival


The Celtic Nations Heritage Festival was to be held on October 10 to October 12, 2008 in Madisonville, Louisiana. Due to hurricanes Gustov and Ike, the 18th annual festival has been postponed. They are hoping to reschedule the event to some time in 2009.

The Celebration of Celts, held annually Chatham, NY in May, is cancelled due to lack of funding. They are looking at a return in 2011.

Campbell Highland Games


The Campbell Highland Games, to be held on June 20, 2009 in Campbell, California, has been cancelled for this year. The reason for the cancellation is due to the economic downturn. The society will be running events throughout the year and actively seek new sponsors in order to bring back the games in 2010.

Fairfield County Irish Festival


The 22nd annual festival was to be held from June 19 to June 21, 2009 in Fairfield, Connecticut but due to rising costs of the venue, the event was cancelled for 2009. The organization is now negotiating for a site for 2010.

The Western Massachusetts Highland Games and Celtic Festival


The festival has been cancelled for 2009. It was originally slated to take place on June 27, 2009 in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Organizers are blaming the poor economic climate. Look for the festival on June 26, 2010.

Stirling Highland Games


The Stirling Highland Games were to be held on July 12, 2009 in Stirling, Scotland, have been cancelled. They have scheduled a return for July 11, 2010. The reason given for the cancellation is the all to common, "due to economic uncertainties".

The ICONs Festival is cancelled, but there will still be a festival at the Irish Cultural Centre of New England on Sept. 13-14th.

Celtic Heritage Festival


The Celtic Heritage Festival in Bedford, Texas was scheduled to take place this coming weekend, October 2-4, 2009. It will not take place this year due to difficulties raising operating funds for this year. They are hoping for a return next year.

The Anne Arundel Scottish Festival


The Anne Arundel Scottish Festival, originally scheduled for October 10, 2009, has been cancelled. There is no mention of a plan to bring them back in the future. Economic factors have been cited as the reason for the end of this Maryland festival.

Highland Games of Louisiana


Originally slated from November 20 to November 22, 2009, will not take place this year. Held annually in Jackson, LA for the last 9 years, the festival organizers have been unable to secure enough sponsorship funding for this year. They hope to be back next year.

Scottish Country Fair


The Scottish Country Fair held annually in Sumter, SC will not take place this year. Last years festival took place on March 20-22, 2009. No reason is given on their site. They do state that a a free concert will be held on March 20, 2010 featuring the USAF Heritage Aire Celtic Ensemble.

You can add the Chicago South Side Irish Parade to the list of cancelled festivals.

It was cancelled after last year's parade due to unruly crowds coming in from the suburbs, ruining it for the rest.

It is being replaced by a weeklong series of events.

Triad Highland Games


The Triad Highland Games, held annually in Greensboro, North Carolina was not held this year due to economic concerns. The event, which was previously a three day event, will be held in 2011 on May 1.

The fifth annual event was to be held on May 1, 2010 in Maynooth, Ontario was cancelled due to the economy and other factors beyond the control of the organizing committee.

Lesmahagow Highland Games


The 50th Lesmahagow Highland Games, held annually in Lesmahagow in the central belt of Scotland, was originally scheduled to take place on June 19, 2010. The decision was made to cancel the games due to lack of funds, and uncertainty of the Lottery Grant.

The Cape Cod Celtic Festival, previously held on June 25-28, 2009 in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, was not held in 2010 due to financial reasons. They are hoping to be on stronger financial footings to see a return in 2011.

The first event was held in Lindsay, Ontario, in June of 2009 but did not return for the 2010 season. However, it looks promising for the second event being held in 2011.

Halifax Highland Games[CENTER][/CENTER]

The Halifax Highland Games and Scottish Festival, held in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, will not be held this year but there are plans for a return on July 16, 2011. Financial challenges and lack of volunteers is cited as the reason for cancelling this year’s event.

Blackstone River Theatre Celtic Festival


The Blackstone River Theatre Celtic Festival, held in Cumberland Island, Rhode Island in July will be held off for one more year. After being cancelled for 2009, the plan was for a return in 2010. The return has now been put off until 2011.

Rockford Celtic Festival


The 2010 edition of the Rockford Celtic Festival, originally slated to take place on August 14 in Rockford, Michigan, has been cancelled. The cancellation is to make way for a weekend-long celebration honoring the 75th anniversary of the incorporation of the CIty of Rockford. The event is to return in 2011.

The 2010 event has been cancelled. Financial issues forced the cancellation of this years event. Plans are already underway for the 2011 event, slated to take place on August 26-28.

Heart of Florida Celtic Festival and Highland Games


The Heart of Florida Celtic Festival and Highland Games (formerly the Zephyrhills Celtic Festival and Highland Games) held annually in Dade City, Florida, will not be held in 2013. Website states that they hope to return in 2014. Last festival took place on March 31, 2012.

Mint Hill Highland Games


The Mint Hill Highland Games in Mint Hill, North Carolina were originally slated to take place on May 3-4, 2013.

Zoukfest


Zoukfest was slated to take place on June 5-9, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It has been postponed until 2014.

Jackson Hole Scottish Festival


After 12 years, the Jackson Hole Scottish Festival held its last event on August 17-18, 2012. The festival held each year in Jackson, Wyoming, sites economic and lack of volunteers as the major reason for their decision.

Montreal Highland Games


The Montreal Highland Games has found a new venue but it won't be ready for this year's games. The move to Angrignon Park in the South-West Borough of Montreal will mean that the next games in Montreal will take place on August 2-3, 2014.

The wùy ù ay Highland Games Swiss Championships were to take place on August 23-25, 2013 but have now been rescheduled for August 29-31, 2014 in St. Ursen, Switzerland.

The Peebles Highland Games slated to take place on September 8, 2013, has been cancelled due to extensive drainage improvement work to be undertaken in Haylodge Park. Promise to be back in 2014

Big Bend Highland Games & Scottish Festival


The Big Bend Highland Games & Scottish Festival in Marianna, Florida has been cancelled for 2013. The festival was scheduled to take place on October 26 and 27, 2013. Announcements for 2014 will be made when decision finalized.

Irish Folk Festival Volmarstein


Festival was scheduled for August 29-30, 2014 in Volmarstein, Westphalia in Germany. No mention of whether this is a permanent cancellation or just for this coming year.
