Thanks John...I need your balance too! Rumsfield wrestled?

Nova,
What exactly happened between 1929 and 1962 that changed those mortagage percentages? My first thought is that companies who employed people (such as Ingersoll-Rand for instance), assisted w/community development and often constructed affordable homes for their laborers. We have one such neighborhood in New Jersey where I grew up - not government projects - these are nice, humble homes. The other thing that comes to mind is the Homestead Act. And finally, did the housing market take on a much greater percentage of the overall market - causing housing prices to increase at a much larger rate than income, which then led to the need for credit? I'm curious to more fully understand what happened back then that slowly shifted the market and got us to where we are today.

Help anyone...

Jillian

Jillian, the following documentary won’t tell all of what happened back then, but it can get you going in the right direction. Whether you believe it or not isn’t as important as knowing about it.
