Hi Can someone please help me out with an irish spelling of Tiernan. I would like it pronounced Teer-nin NOT Teer-nawn I have seen the following variations: - Tighearnán - Tighearnáin - Tiarnán I am gathering that the fada over the 'a' is making it Teer-nawn, not Teer-nin. Are all of the versions appropriate but WITHOUT the fadas? Or, are they okay WITH the fadas? Thank you so much guys in advance for helping me out with this. Have to get it right |

The pronunciation would be "Theer-non"(Library Ireland, 2007): Irish Gaelic "Tiernan (Tighearnan, lordly) ex Tiernan O'Rourke Theer-non"(Library Ireland, 2007) Author unknown.(2007). Oh I'm sorry I misunderstood what you were asking for, If you want it to sound like what you want, then I would suggest (Tiernin) I guess you would change the sound of it and it the name would perhaps keep to its meaning, "Lordly". The fada over the (á) sounds like; (aw) as in the english word "caw, and the (a) "...depending on the the neighboring consonants, either as in English tap or in English top, but with the lips unrounded..."(Ó Sé & Sheils, 2003, p. xi) Reference: Ó Sé, D. and Sheils, J.(2003).
