You also have airport taxes and their newest one they claim is due to September 11. Just using that day as a way to screw you some more.

Speaking of airports you ever receive a search warrant when these federal employees search your bags at the airport???????

I wish there was one site on the web that would show all the taxes the US Government buries us in.

One thing that annoys me is we have 2 differe legal codes on is the United States Code and the Code of Federal Regulations the USC is the law that is what is written by congress where as the CFR's are the interpretations of the law by departments and agencies like the IRS and Department of the Treasury. Now get this if only congress can write law why is it that title 26 CFR (tax code by departments and agencies) and 26 USC (tax law by congress) are not the same length? In fact 26 CFR is almost 4 times the size of 26 USC. 26 CFR contains roughly 40,000 pages compared to roughly 10,000 in 26 USC. So if only congress can write law why is it the regulations are 4 times as large? Should they not be exactly the same as the law? dry.gif

I think it all changed with the Great Depression and FDR's New Deal. They introduced the income tax. That never existed till then! The New Deal put us greatly into debt. During the Depression, FDR wanted to put everyone to work. Well, how is he going to pay all these people? He borrowed and borrowed and got us more and more into debt. Making all these federal programs. Yes, some were good programs. But I think that got the ball rolling. We have so many worthless programs and grants out there. So much waste....
So how do we get ourselves out of this hole? Let's make up some more taxes. Government just got bigger and bigger.

Well partly right and partly wrong while the general public got started paying taxes around that time the income tax itself got started in 1913 with the ratification (I use this term very very loosly). Until that point no tax on income had been held constitutional.

Now my question has always been this. While congress does have the power to tax why write the 16th amendment? If they also had the power to tax income then there would be no need for the 16th amendment. Obviously they wrote it because they could not previously tax income. So the 16th amendment obviously allowed congress to do something they previously couldn't so this granted congress a new power so why then has the 10th amendment never been involked to void this new power? the 10th amendment clearly says anything not granted to congress in the constitution is reserved for the states and the people.

The 16th amendment gives the Congress the Constitutional power because that what the amendments from the 11th on have changed the constitution to either allow something that wasn't allowed in the original document or disallow something that wasn't except for the 21st which repealed the 18th.

Whether or not the 16th should have been ratified may be questionable but it was and so income tax became Constitutional like it or not. The IRS as an instrument of the government to collect those taxes is another matter. sad.gif
