My family is McArthur. so I am assuming they are from Ireland. Are they not? In all the geneology I have done on the McArthurs I find nothing. However, I have cousins who I would consider experts in the field of geneology. They have been at it for years and years. They try to rule out before rule in what's in our history. They swear our McArthurs are of Scots heritage instead of Irish. I don't know. I thought if your surname was Mc, you were Irish...whereas Mac was Scottish. Anyone care to share? Thanks!
The Mac/McArthurs are Scottish. I'm proud to say you can take away our lands and take us out of the country but we're still as stuborn as ever!

Many times man lives and dies Between his two eternities, That of race and that of soul And ancient Ireland knew it all.
" To a Scot, the past clings like sand to wet feet, and is carried about as a burden. The many ghosts are always a part of them, inescapable." Geddes MacGregor
Hope, fear, false-joy, and trouble, Are these four winds which daily toss this bubble, His breath’s a vapour, and his life’s a span; Tis glorious misery to be born a man. ~ from a Cornish gravestone
"Now I perceive the devil understands Welsh.” "God defend me from that Welsh fairy, Lest he transform me to a piece of cheese!” William Shakespeare quotes
I have since learned that our McArthurs are indeed from Scotland, considered one of the oldest clans in Scotland. And my family are all a mighty stubborn bunch, which explains much...LOL
I may use that saying of yours as a sig, if that is ok.
By all means, go right ahead. My Papa is "slightly" stuborn...and by slightly I mean...has fought like his back's to the wall all his life...I'm going that way to!
My step-father was the epitome of MacArthurism. My Mother (a devout Catholic) called him a "Thrawn Bugger" and swore he would argue with the Devil himself.
Hello oashotreeo! I have no answer to your question. But I think my mother was related to Camac's step-father! LOL And oh, she loved to argue.
I have been looking for a McArthur plaid wrap to wear at my Scottish impression re-enactments. The colors would go well with my 18thc clothing. However, I don't want to pay and arm and leg for it either. We have our Phoenix Highland games in a couple weeks. I am hoping to find something there.
Celticrose; Have a great time in Phoenix at the games. Hope you find what you are after. I know about prices, while in Scoland last year I thought I might get a new kilt as mine is getting tight around the girth. they wanted 300 pound ($850.00) for just the kilt without any accessories . I bought the first in Scotland back in 63 and it cost $150. including sporran, socks , garters and tabs.
