For those who don't know A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon did come out on September 27th. My mom got this book FINALLY as a birthday gift, she was so excited as soon as she finished she thrust the book into my hands, literally and told me to hurry up cause she wanted to talk about it, haha. Hurry up... it's as HUGE of a book as her other Outlander ones. Their were quite a few surprises in this book. She did say this one was the last, but I'm sure like she did with Lord John, she could venture into another character. Even her minor ones have more about them than even some major character in other books. Well good luck and happy reading, it was a GREAT book. She's just ruined me for many other authors though, haha.

Leis gach beannachd (with every blessing),

Haha, this is probably one of the most ridiculous conversations, but I still couldn't resist replying. One of the other people mentioned C always being a k sound in gaelic. Which I say is true in Scots gaelic as well as Irish. I am learning Scots Gaelic, my sister the Irish form. Anyway, in Scottish gaelic, C is ALWAYS pronounced as K at the beginning of the word (since they don't have a K letter), example being cup in english. If C is found in any other part of the word (excluding CH, because that's a whole different sound altogether) it is pronounced as chk if it their are broad vowels around it or ch if they are slender vowels. (This gets confusing for me sometimes, having to break the way I THINK it should be said). The only other time the K sound comes up is when g is in the middle of the word and only if it is a broad consonant. S though if it is broad is an S sound in english or an SH sound if it is slender. I am unsure how Irish is, but I think it is similar. I always want to laugh when people say Seltics, I mean I'm from Texas and no one says Fajita or Tortilla wrong unless they are from up north or just trying to be funny. Neither of those words should be pronounced how they are spelled. But anyway, enough of this silly conversation. I have NO idea how the Boston Celtics became seltics, my guess is that someone didn't know how it was pronounced and it just took off from there, since many others apparently didn't either. Although the Websters' Dictionary is probably right, but they only add things into it if it takes hold in language even if it's wrong, just like slang being added in there.

Hi all,

I absolutely LOOOVED this movie. But the others are right their are some things seriously missing, I think just to hit some of the high points of the first five chapters, they would have had to add an hour at the very least half an hour. Anyone who likes the movie though, read the book, their are many things that are missing. I'm not too sure how the other movies are going to be now though, because many things that are introduced in this book tie into the rest of the story. The movie is already long though, so I assume that's why this one wasn't all there. The house elves, S.P.E.W., the veela, etc.... were all missing. I guess they didn't think they were important, but in the other books they become much more important, so I'm wondering how they are going to be able to reintroduce them into the story... Well... I'm glad I at least read the book and am not missing out on some frustrating and quite funny scenes, myself.

That is the big man I was speaking of and he is... BIG!!! 6'7 and 375 lbs according to the dallas morning news... that seems about right from what I remember about seeing him and the others live. He most definitely stood out. He did play the bodhran for the band here. He was not one of the core people though, although it seems that has changed often. Seeing the band before and seeing it after... their was a definite difference and it wasn't all to new people, it had more to do with the stage presence. Everything the newspaper said about him there seems about right from what others say and from how I remember him acting at the faire. Which is funny... cause I never even spoke to him, but ya know how you just get a feeling about a person? Anyway, I thought that might clear up the confusion.

Yes it was the same club where Dimebag died. He was a really good guitarist.

And yes you have missed out, the Rogues are really good live, much better than the cds I think. It's a feeling you get I guess. The big man played the bodhran, right? Why I can't remember his name I don't know.
I wonder if they will recover from that loss, I know that's worse than someone leaving, much grieving.

I've seen them the last two years at Scarborough Faire here in Texas and they were supposed to play at the Texas Scottish Festival this year that I missed because I was too sick to go. *sigh* I have the Made in Texas cd, it's really cool. I noticed some member changes this last time I went to the Faire so I decided to look them up online. It looks like they added a new member since I had seen them and some time after that one of the men (the really big man) died (I think he died protecting some people at a club as a bodyguard from some crazy gunman). It was really sad, he was young and I think he had a young family too. He died a hero to those he saved.

Thanks for making me feel welcome, would have been back sooner, but had pneumonia this past week. I am now on the mend smile.gif thank goodness.
Anyway, I'm happy I've finally met (sort of) some people that KNOW what I'm talking about when I mention those books. Ya know how so many books you read and then you couldn't remember anything about them later... Each time I read these yeah their are some surprises and things I didn't remember, but the bulk of it I can. I love how the accents are written too, it helps so I know how they are supposed to sound.

I think Voyager was my favorite book out of those. The Outlander one, their is one word she uses an awful lot that sometimes drives me nuts. Her books I can tell are better written the further along she gets, but I think I'm still more in love with the first ones. Although... her others are even better than almost any other book I've read, maybe it's just cause I'm not too crazy about Bree and Roger? Throughout most of their time in them I think man these people are stupid and pigheaded, but I guess if we were honest their are more like them than Jamie and Claire. Too bad... wish we all had a man like Jamie, but I haven't met any that come anywhere close.

Hey never posted on this site before, just registered two days ago.

Had to add I LOVE Diana Gabaldons' books, they are wonderful, full of everything you could possibly be interested in. Love Jamie and Claire. Breanna and Roger? I love them too, but not as much. However, everytime I put one of her books down and it's over I feel like I'm missing friends, which is extremely rare to find from any book. I think I've read them over 3 times each, which is a feat when Outlander was the first book I'd ever read that was that large, but I enjoyed every page. Can't wait til her new one comes out. I know those books are mine, my mom, my moms' best friend, my aunt and my uncles favorite. Where else are you going to find that much adventure where you actually care about what happens to the characters to that degree?

Amy

PS Have also read Sarah Donati's books. I thought they were good also.
My personal preference in general as far as books go are fantasy and most anything having to do with celtic history.

PSS I also read Dianas' book about Lord John Grey, it was extremely funny. I didn't realize they were two.
