Background: The name Keane in Ireland is derived from the Gaelic O'Cein Sept who were based in County Waterford in the South East. Other descendants may have taken their name from families that adopted Keane as a variant of Kane or Cahan, from the O'Cathain Sept of Derry in the North of the country.
