Knight of the Round Table Group: Celtic Nation Posts: 163 Joined: 29-Dec-2008 Zodiac: Hazel Realm: The Heart of it All	I see there is a "growing old" thread so I thought the younger crowd needed a place to hang their hat too! I know the under 35 crowd is probably the minority at CR, but I hope this will be a good place for us to discuss. Anyone seen the ads for the "Slap chop"? Its the sham wow guy. Just when I thought he couldn't sink any lower than Sham Wow. And the line "you're going to love my nuts". Whats that about?! And he is wearing that silly microphone again. You know your career is bad when that is your trademark. Its just generally disturbing and you can buy the same gadget at walmart for three dollars, and if you can't get it clean you have more troubles than food chopping! Attached Image. Clan: AWARE	Ischillinger nice thread, I still qualify for the U35 mark for now. I have a young family and yes I too have seen Mr. Sham Wow marketing his gadgets. Just think, back before digital cable and DVR's were around infomercials had a pretty strong impact. For example, how many people do you know that either have or had a George Foreman grill? Honestly I am not sure how these guys are still in business but I suppose any goods can be sold with the right marketing strategy, so hats off to this guy for making it in a down economy! I hope there is more on the minds of us "whipper Snappers" then infomercials though. So stimulus or no it personally affects me all the same. I am however not yet impressed with our new President. Perhaps I am over critical. And yes there is always a lot on my mind. However, I happened to be sitting in this thread when I saw that, and I'd have thought that he would have generated some conversation as he is a pretty unique salesman!

I still will sit on the floor cross legged and I can mentally adapt to kids and pets easily! But I will say I love to talk to older people verses teens and in their 20's people any day! Last night my husband and I took my 10 year old daughter, and her two friends to the Oldies Skate Night in Marysville WA! They played some oldies, and my much loved 80's all night! Getting there really was an adventure, not the kind you live to tell about but you look back on fondly! It was kind you live to tell about and you hope to the God above that you never have to repeat again! Suddenly my role in life was reversed! Instead of it being my oldest friend and I in the back seat of a car being rode around by an adult or as we saw it many time s the enemy) I was the adult taking them around! WE heard storeis about what happened to your legs if you jump off a buliding and land on your feet, we were told about blood and guts, there was a bout of gas from someone back there, the noise level became so bad and my husband grips my hand and looked a little scared haha! They just would not stop talking and they just kept getitng louder! Once we arrived at the skate place I was so relieved to be out of the car and get them on the skating floor. I had to help the girls get the skates on and laced, the boy did that himself! The boy came up to me 6 times asking for money, even though I said NO! I didnt even have to think about it and I thought he would give up but he did not! My daughter got a blister after an hour and a half and I said we all needed to go because she didnt want to skate but she didnt want to leave and she didnt want to watch her friends skate! Now they are all MAD at me and trying to bargin, the boy says we will leave after the chicken song he demanded, yeah right! Like I am going to let some 10 year olds tell me when we are going! I heave a child in tears and two that are darting fire bombs at me from their eyes! I thought to myself, lets get the some french fries on the way home so that maybe they will be silent! My husband thinks to take us all to the Mc Donalds that has the play area and they are delighted! I told them, we have only 30 minutes, then we will get the fries and go home! Half way through I said you have 15 minutes! The boy come and asked for a sode, NO, and then he askes for some ice cream and I say NO! Well then it happened......the most emotional part of the night! I said it was time to go and my daughter, my precious almost always sweet allbeit sometimes tricky little girl threw a totaly fit! She yelled at me in front of everyone and stomped :0 I put her in timeout right there in front of everybody, oh and took a picture of it also On the way home for a good 3 minutes they were quiet and ate their fries, which sounded like little mice chomping on rice cereal! The fires ran out and the noise level went back up, I heard a lot of ...stop that...I said stop that! The boy was picking on my daughter and she was grouchy!!! We did arrive home the kids left and I was tired and my husband was a bit upset at the way the kids were, RUDE! But I reminded him I was that way also and I grew up and changed! Being 30 is really hard! I am not the parent, I cant just be friends with my kid as she will walk all over me unless I demand respect! It hit me the other day that I will be thirty, practically the next time I blink. I'll be 27 in August. The older I get the more time seems to zoom by. I used to think of 30 and had thought that life would be sorted then and I'd be a whole lot wiser. Well I don't feel older, nor more wise! When does that kick in? lol I feel to young to be this old darn it! Though I have started to notice myself having "old people" tendancies! Like trying to find shoes that have been out of style for five years, or listening to music I used to totally despise. I was a rocker chick for many a year, now I'm listening to a station on my sirius that is in the "pop" catagory. I keep insisting that its not pop! That just makes me feel old! Since when is Nickleback pop?!

Clan: AWARE	So Nickleback has gone pop....mmm, so does that make the Beastie Boys Oldies then? At my work I am referred to as old with my towering decade above the generally just over twenty crowd there. I will bring up a band or TV show in general discussions with them and they will delight in telling me how they remember it from when they started jr. high school. I guess this is why people say things like you're only as old as you feel. Thank goodness I still have my youthful energy, too bad I don't have my 4 year olds energy though.

I used to be the young person around my offce and now we are getting interns in born in the 90s. I've already had to ask one of them what a slang word they were using was. And they've all tried to tell me that nickleback is popish. I asked them what rock is then and they said atreyu and slipknot to name a couple. That would have been hard rock as far as I remember not that there is anything wrong with it I like that as well. Just a bit of an "you're old" waje up call! And the 80s music on the "oldies" stations...yikes. I don't think any pf these interns have ever heard of the brat pack! None I've found anyway. I mentioned pretty in pink the other day and they looked totally clueless
