QUOTE | Just a heads up for anyone who can get UK SKY TV |
Which actually is not a lot of Gaels in outlying areas, Highlands and Islands - and um, where do Gaels live...?
I wish this was coming on Freeview, as it's going to make a difference, commercially, how many people use it initially, if it is to continue and expand.
I'm also very curious about what sort of programming it will have. It needs 'hooks', like popular music and soaps etc. So far, from what I've heard, it seems as if it's going more for 'heritage', which is a limited appeal, and will not pull in the viewers.
It needs total rubbish on it, like on normal TV - Big Brother, celeb interviews, crime series, cookery, gardens, house makeovers etc, as well as (definitely) the odd Free Church Service and a lot of Blas, Fèisean, the Mod etc; so that Gaelic is seen as 'normal', not 'a specialist, intellectual, endangered language'.
