The World Piping Championships were held on Glasgow Green at the weekend.

A Scottish band one, for the first time in years! Simon Fraser University from Canada have won for four of the past few years - but not this year!

It's a wonderful day out, and the weather really helped out.... There were people and bands from all over the world!

Here's another website explaining the history of Glasgow Green and with a few photographs, too!

And another one with photographs from last year's contest

It was a good weekend......

Glasgow Green is a great venue. (Said as a native of Edinburgh, with a soft spot for the Weegies!)

I was in Glasgow the week before the Pipe championships so I just missed them more the pity as I am a budding pipe player but I went to the "Barras" which was great and also to the pubs there such as "Bairds" and other Celtic pubs in that ares Celtic of course being the Glasgow Celtic Football Club it was just great

Glad you liked Glasgow. Although I am from Edinburgh, I like Glasgow, too...

Close members of my family are members of a pipe band in Canberra, NSW.... Their pipeband will be competing at the Worlds next August.... My nephew and TWO nieces are in the band.

It is a great event!

Our local pipe band did rather well at Glasgow this year. In grade 3b they finished 5th and their drums were #1. Even though it was 3b, it is quite a feather in their bonnets. note.gif
