Immigrant Road Show is a superb showcase of one of the most energetic, fun bands on the road today. Once you hear them once, you can't get enough. The lads range is incredible. Listening to Immigrant Road Show is a voyage from the hysterically funny "Hills of Donnegal", through the rebellion of Fiach McHugh O'Byrne depicted in "Follow Me Up to Carlow", into Scotland with the rousing "I Will Go" then off the beaten track with "Technoccorian" and the "Gypsy Fiddle". There is not a mediocre song on the album. They are all fabulous. See this talented band as soon as possible and buy the album. You will not regret it!

You're talking about the CD by Scythian right? It is a great one and the lads are super guys! If you get a chance to see a show - even better - they are awesome entertainers!

From their website, Scythian played for the President of the U.S. along with some very well known groups on St. Patrick's Day 2007. Here is the press release, by the sounds of it was President Bush's favorite group. We've heard that the Bush's are big fans of Celtic Music! smile.gif

Pool Report #4
March 17, 2008

Pool was ushered into Capitol's Rayburn Room to witness the final moments of lunch, after speeches had already been made. As we entered, Speaker Pelosi, dressed in a hospital green pantsuit for St. Patrick's Day, introduced an Irish-American band that she said would offer up "Celtic" music, pronounced by her as in "Boston Celtics." The band, Scythian, consisted of two fiddles, a guitar and drums. The four men launched into a highly spirited – bordering even on raucous – rendition of something that sounded like tradition-tinged Irish rock. All were clapping along, including the president, Pelosi, and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md. Among the presidential aides on hand were Ed Gillespie and Tony Fratto. Bush demanded an encore and got one, but the pool was shuffled out. As he descended the steps of the House a few minutes later to depart, he was serenaded by a line of drummers and bagpipe players. I was informed by an Irish Embassy official that, yes, bagpipes are used in Ireland too, not just Scotland. I assume that meant the kilts they were wearing too.

Probably a good choice. Removing one's kilt usually results in legal tangles.
"Why are you wearing a kilt?"
"I don't want to go to jail."

I would love to see this band live! I like all of the songs but my favorites would have to be Hills Of Donegal and of course Immigrant stomp. I will be doing some serious requesting with this cd!

I caught a couple of their sets at the 2008 Celtic Fling (where they alternated the same stage with Enter the Haggis) and absolutely loved the mix of songs/styles, along with their musicianship. Twin fiddles! Oh yeah, the charisma helped a lot too. I hadn't heard them live at all, only a bit on their MySpace site, and left the Fling with all three CD's. I hope to see them again in the next year or so.

Asheville NC is a great place to play, so maybe, just maybe!

Definitely MUST SEE, their energy on stage is amazing! You won't be able to sit down for very long, so just go stand up by the stage and dance along! I've been to three of their stops (two festivals, one pub) in one year, and not a single show was the same.
