Aaaaaaah ... Arnie eh??? The old groper?? Errrrr .. I don`t think I would to be honest. But then. I`m not in the States so I don`t have to worry about it biggrin.gif

thankfully yes, I'm not californian nor american =)
but I certainly wouldn't vote for him.. simply because I'm not for conservatives

Well, I am American and I live in California. Recalling Davis - a good thing. The man has hamstrung our state government with his micromanaging ways. mad.gif Ahnold - a very BAD thing. censored.gif Would I rather have 2 more years of Gray the Control Freak? No. Do I want Arnold in charge of the state? No. I'm voting for recall and for Bustamante. I just hope sanity strikes the state in time...

What am I saying? This is California! Get ready for the Gubernator...

Surely if Arnold wore his Conan The Barbarian outfit, every woman in California would vote for him...
I'm a republican who believes in strong defense for this country. If Arnold wins I believe it will be because of his movie star statues that gets it for him...
too many questions about his past.
Talking out both sides of my mouth? well yea, that's politic's for ya!

I would not vote for Arnold. He is representing the Republican party in the election, but does not want to take their views with him. For example, he is pro-abortion and soft on illegal immigration. I guess its better than Davis.

Those against him like to say: well it's his hollywood status etc. etc. Does anybody remember President Reagen? Hello? He was an actor and was elected president twice. Just because someone can act does not mean they are stupid or incapable of making good decisions.

even in a pub you discuss politics! or you go on ranting over harder things!
(At least it's like that in the pubs I visited)...

I liked the thing they said in Radio 1 this morning: Kindergarten Cop is the new governor of california *grins*
I mean that on a funnier note.

I like Arnold. His version of moderate Rebublicanism runs almost equal with my political beliefs.

I would like to see if he is able to have any real accomplishments while he is in office.

I think though where we have politics we should try and keep them here as this is what this threads for. I mean a small chat is fine as they always pop up in general discussion but heavier debates and discussions I feel should be brought into the politics areana. The Pub should be more relaxed and enjoyable without the debates and such of politics. A place to go and unwind. wink.gif

OK Now for the question. Unsure if I would vote for him, but not because of the last minute issues that popped up. Personally I put little faith in a lot of the aligations. He was honest and admitted some misdoings and I feel he proved himself to me by doing this and being honest which a lot of politicians (Need I remind you of clinton "it depends on the definition of the word "is"") aren't today and why would he admit some and then deny the others. And if these were such a big problem why were no sexual harrassment charges ever brought long ago????

As for the Hitler comments I saw another article where someone who knew Arnold in his younger days said Arnold helped to break up neo nazi gatherings. And from speaking with a friend of mine even if Arnold did say he admired Hitler even the author stated the reasons Arnold supposedly said such comments. In fact I was just going back over the articles on this on yahoo and find in fact even the guy making the allegations specifically says Arnold never mentioned Hitler and he also says "In the film" which makes me have to go humm even more. To me this is just nothing more then dirty politics at it's usual.

"Pumping Iron" director George Butler quoted Schwarzenegger in a book proposal and told ABC the quotes needed to be seen in context to be understood. He told The New York Times he stood by a recollection of Schwarzenegger playing Nazi marches and mimicking SS officers but said Schwarzenegger was an immature young man involved in the outlandish bodybuilding culture of the 1970s.

In the film, Schwarzenegger never mentions Hitler, but says, "I was always dreaming about very powerful people, dictators and things like that. I was just always impressed by people who could be remembered for hundreds of years."

And if this was a film then Arnold could very well have just been praticing his role. I never saw this film so...

From what I understand, his comments were related to how he was able to go from nothing to being "something".

Well while talking to my friend he actually agreed with Arnold (Providing Arnold did actually say these things) and he agreed because it is what Hitler accomplished not what he did. I mean he came from a small famil and rose to the same level as a president or king and I know my friend did do some research on Hitler back when he was in Collage for something he did and he actually too is impressed with what Hitler acomplished for Germany. While I personally have not researched Hitler he (my friend) did say that from his research he found that Hitler did alot of positive things for Germany as well but these always get buried by the evil things he did during his last years.

A person can admire a person in one way yet not another. For instance I admire Bush for getting to the status of President but I do not admire him for what he is doing to our country.

Ok now you can all go ahead and blast me for what I just said. fear.gif

no blasting from me!

Posted by: scottish2 10-Oct-2003, 10:20 AM
Another thing that had to make me wonder about all these aligations also was why they all came out at the last minute when it was too late to properly investigate the aligations. It was almost like they were untrue and the opposition didn't want to give the media time to research and dispute it. If it was all true why not bring it out weeks and months back when it could have derailed Arnolds Campaign long before it got steamrolling. dry.gif

I admire Margaret Thatcher .. not for her beliefs (good God no!!) but for the way she stood up for them. Thats what beliefs are all about. And I tend to think thats what Arnie meant when he said he admired Hitler. The fact that the man (I use the term `man`loosely!!), stuck to what he believed in shows what strengh of character he had. Either that, or he was insane!!
