Several of us have decided we want a get together the summer or fall of 2008. This will give every one time to get to know each other, see who hangs on this site that long, finally meet those strange funny but wonderful people we share our lives with by internet and put a face to the personality we THINK we know.

This will also give you time to save your money for airline tickets, bus tickets, gas, hotel lodging or save up time off of work...

So now we have a year picked out (yes only 4 years from now)
So what kind of things do we all want to do once we all get together?
Put your input about a get-together here on this thread. We will keep adding ideas til 2008 when it actually happens! It will be a shocker to meet face to face but it should also be alot of fun. For those who do not live here in the States we will make sure you have some place to bed down and we'll help you out with anything you need on this end. So don't freak out if you have to jump the pond ok? Someone has to get Barddas and his band there! We can't do this without him!

#1 So do you want to have a list of activities you can choose to participate in or not?
#2 We also need any and all suggestions! If you think this is a poor idea, tells us! If you think we are all crazy and out of our minds and want in on this, tells us!

Thanks,
Annabelle

I think it's grand! I'd love to go white water rafting but sitting around a keg is also fun! I like mine in the variety of Diet Coke biggrin.gif-

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Apr-2004, 11:05 AM
So you don't think this is a stupid idea JaneyMae? I can guarantee ya there will be Diet Coke for you and Richard and I!

Posted by: JaneyMae 08-Apr-2004, 11:16 AM
I think it sounds like a blast! I'll be there if I can! You and I don't have to come from Europe tho.

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Apr-2004, 11:21 AM
No but people like Snowblind, Gabby and other's might be concerned about arrangements and stuff if they want to come. I just wanted them to know we will help them on this end if they need it.

Posted by: oldraven 08-Apr-2004, 11:31 AM
What are the possibilities of finding out where this would take place? I may not have to cross an ocean, but getting to functions like that take time. Driving is the only way to go, for me, but anything over two days is just too much. There should be munchkins by that time too. So, here's for making it in the northern states. thumbs_up.gif Besides, I don't think I could handle the sweltering heat in the south.

Yes I'm very interested. Whether or not I'm able to actually show up, that's another matter.

Posted by: tsargent62 08-Apr-2004, 11:38 AM
Location, location, location.

I think we should probably avoid the deep south (Sorry Annabelle) for the simple reason that it'll be too stinkin hot! sweatdrop.gif Someplace like Tennessee or Kentucky would probably work as they're somewhat centrally located. Somplace like Missouri might work since it is pretty much in the middle of the country, but I can't imagine that there's a whole lot to do there. I could be wrong. That or it's plain bad memories of basic training at Fort Leonard Wood.

I think a list of activities might be a good idea, but there needs to be some room for flexibility.

Denver, indianapolis or perhaps Kansas city could be far west enough for the left coasters
I would prefer a small city around Denver. I haven't been there but I am partial to mountains. and it does have a large airport for those inclined to fly. and stuff to do inside or out

I am a BIG fan of pin the tail on the donkey and bobbing for apples.

Posted by: tsargent62 08-Apr-2004, 12:12 PM
Yeah, Colorado Springs would be great! There's a lot to do there for little or nothing. You can go hiking, spelunking, shopping, whatever! Kind of far for the east coasters, but it would be cool.

I rembered you saying that you used to live aroud there that you loved it.

Posted by: gaberlunzie 08-Apr-2004, 12:22 PM
First of all it's a wonderful idea and NO, I'm NOT freaking out to have to jump over the pond!
To find the right location should be the job of all of you "Natives"...
Once I landed I'll come wherever it will be with a rented camper...another thing I always wanted to do. I love camping and spent most vacations with doing it.

We are all a bit crazy, I guess...this is the wonderful thing about this community!

Hey...if we meet in later September we can celebrate my 50th birthday together biggrin.gif ...oh my God... rolleyes.gif

Posted by: RavenWing 08-Apr-2004, 12:27 PM
Late September is actually a good time to visit this area of the country.

Hey Gab, just because it's called a camper, that doesn't mean you're camping. Fabric walls and tarp floors. That's camping. Otherwise you're just taking holidays in a camper.

Colorado is something I can see myself swinging. That is, if we're still in the west at the time. If we've moved home by then, I can't see myself making it there. It would take the entire two weeks of vacation just to do the road trip. (5-6 days straight daylight driving one way.)

Yep. Had my druthers I'd still be living there. Made a big mistake leaving. I'm sure things have changed a bit since I left, but if we went there, at least there'd be 1 person familiar with the area.

Hehe, I know, oldraven. I used to spend camping holidays in a tent...But I take into consideration that in 4 years my old bones POSSIBLY will be tired or aching....
no, it's something I'm dreaming to do for quite a long time now...to travel a part of the U.S.A. this way. We will see... smile.gif

Don't listen to OR Gabs. We have a popup camper and we still call it camping. It's not really roughing it like in a tent, but by golly it's still camping!

You haven't been to the US yet, have you?

No, I haven't. Before I got married (long time ago!) I was planning to visit a cousin of mine who is living in Pennsylvania but then...
My sister has been there; my brother has been to NY ( he paricipated at the New York Marathon - he's the sports champ of the family); my sister-in-law with family have been there many times...I only know it from pictures, documentations and books.

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Apr-2004, 01:30 PM
I don't think the South is a good place for it anyway. Too hot and humid. Has to be where the weather would be comfortable...
oldraven we will get baby beds and cribs for you and Ang!

You know someone is going to have to be the Roving Photographer so that they can put all of the pictures up here so everyone who can't come will be able to see what they missed.

Someone get a map and find a middle of the country spot! I don't have a atlas here at the office.

Oh no Tsargent. No flexibility for you! We all expect you up at 5:00 a.m. and start breakfast for the rest of us!

Weather is another advantage of Colorado Springs. Even 90F (32C) feels good there because there's very little humidity.

Another positive is that I know of a great Mexican restaurant just outside of town. Enchiladas and Dos Equis for everyone!

If you are going to the Ihop I want to put my order in now. But wouldn't it be better to camp out and cook this over an open stove outside and go and sneak up each other and tickle their feet while they are asleep... then we can jump back over to the stove and act like we don't know a thing...
I'll help with breakfast as long as no one expects its til 8:30 ok? I'm not a morning person but I'll get up early to tickle toes!

Don't tell me your one of those people. You know the ones "it's not the heat it's the humidity." BS I was in Arizona last year it was 110 and it was the heat. My nose was burning just like walking into a saunna and breathing deep. It hurt. By the way I don't like the humidity any better. I like a nice high of say 75-80 with a cool breeze.

Look here, bub. One of "those people" indeed!

90 F does feel good. Once it gets to 100F then, yeah, it's just plain hot. 90F in Michigan is unbearable for me.

Let's have it here in Chicago. It is centrally located, accessible by car, bus, rail and air (two airports, and if the state legislature ever gets moving, possibly a third by 2008). Plenty of places to go and things to do at all times of the year. I would definitely recommend it not be held in the summer (if it were legal and I had a six pack instead of a keg, I'd go around in the nude in the summertime), as it has been known to get up to 95º with 100% humidity. Late spring or early fall would be best.

Posted by: tsargent62 08-Apr-2004, 02:32 PM
Chicago is pretty cool. There is plenty to do and see. And, I agree, summer would be miserable.

I tell ya where else would be great. Traverse City, Michigan. Beautiful area. It's perched on the Grand Traverse Bay, off Lake Michigan. On a clear July day it is a sight to behod. Rivals anything I saw in Alaska or Colorado. It might get hot, but we can alway cool off in the bay.

Nope. Even farther. I'm from New Scotland. (psst, check the avatar wink.gif )

And that was five days driving west on the Trans Canada. Add a little south in there and we're talking a long haul.

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Apr-2004, 03:22 PM
How about trying an airplane? It can get you anywhere! Lots of time you can get flights cheaper than if you drove... please consider it with time and start your account just for this.

Or maybe we should have it in Aruba so we can all go to the beach, strip down and wear thongs and eat Lobster!
Oh my, that would be a scarry sight ! Richard in a Thong Bathing suit!
Elspeth and 3 R would look good but Richard?

Posted by: JaneyMae 08-Apr-2004, 03:28 PM

I love the idea of Aruba too. OOOOOO Can't you just picture and old fat gramma lady in a thong? Sexy! lol.gif

Posted by: oldraven 08-Apr-2004, 03:39 PM
I'm all for Michigan, tsargent. That's only a couple days away from either place. And you people and your fear of humidity. I LOVE it. A bit of sweating beats dry flakey skin, scalp, and dead hair any day.

Annabelle, I'd fly, but once you add one or two children to that plan, things get really pricey, really quick. Besides, I love driving more than anything. If I can reach it by land, I will.

And what's all this talk about Mexican? I thought this was a Celtic Radio gathering. sly.gif

No one has offered the most obvious places the old countries.

Or perhaps Waynesville NC my home a lovely place year round especially in the Fall, humidity is low, and the weather is rarely above 80 deg. F. in the summer. You can all stay at my house, but it's BYOB.

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Apr-2004, 04:50 PM
Birddog you and I are going to be neighbors one day! We are going to build a house up in Jeffereson, NC. I agree now that's the place to have this get together but location is too difficult for everyone...but it looks like Scotland or Ireland up there....but not centrally located for everyone.

Posted by: birddog20002001 08-Apr-2004, 05:06 PM
I had to look it up on the map but I have been all around Jefferson surveying in Linville Gorge, Blowing Rock, Boone, and a few other places. That is some steep land.

Posted by: A Shrule Egan 08-Apr-2004, 07:18 PM
Just a suggestion. Alexandria Bay, N.Y. (aka: The Thousand Islands), right on the Canadian border, serviced by 3 airports, Toronto, Canada, Syracuse and Watertown, N.Y. Major highway leads right to it, Interstate 81. Plenty of hotels, motels and camping and the scenery takes a backseat to nothing.

http://www.alexbay.org/

You will not get bored here. Plenty for the kids to do too.

Posted by: Annabelle 08-Apr-2004, 07:23 PM
Waynesville is where everyone tells me I'll have to go to do big shopping. I'm hopeing I can get people together up there. It's got the most awesome land. My property is at the top of Buck Mt and it's flat up there and then drops off on one side. It has a elevation of 4,000 feet that I absolutely love up there. And what a view. You'll have to come over there and visit....

Another suggestion would be to aim for the weekend of a Celtic festival, Irish Festival or Highland games.

A couple of suggestions:

http://www.fergusscottishfestival.com/ - Fantastic festival located about 45 minutes from Toronto in a beautiful area of Ontario.

http://www.celtic-colours.com/core.php Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Oldraven isn't exaggerating when he talks of the beauty of Nova Scotia.

I love the idea of Scotland, but not sure it would be financially feasible for me. I love the idea of Nova Scotia, though. I was there last summer and loved it. It was a port for a cruise so we only got to spend 1 day there. It would be great to spend more time there. I know of one place that oldraven would agree we'd have to go: the Alexaner Keith's Brewery. Didn't get to go while I was there, but have been told I have to if I ever get there again.

Chicago would be a great location, I agree (of course, I live there), but I love Toronto. great city and good exchange rate.
Doing it around a highland game or so would be easy. Get a Celticradio.net booth/tent.

Posted by: oldraven 09-Apr-2004, 01:50 PM
Keltic, I was biting my tongue. Dying to suggest Nova Scotia, but I thought everybody would be saying 'my home town', and it is in one extreme corner of civilised America, so not so close for everybody. I would give my solemn OATH to make it there, if it was considered.

Another interesting thing would be to have it at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso. It's all camping, and yes, places exist to park campers. Some local people even open up their homes to house people. wink.gif There are plenty of booths setup with all sorts of multicultural foods. At least there was when I was there. Mostly healthy foods. This is a kind of Celtic/Folk woodstock, remember. tongue.gif Stay away from the lettuce. unsure.gif

heh smile.gif

But I've yet to see the Keith's Brewery. Not the inside of it, anyway. Even though I lived in Dartmouth for a year and some.

I'm not positive on when the Antigonish Highland Games are. They're the oldest surviving Highland Games, in the world. Most in Scotland have moved to a different grounds. Something like that. I might be wrong. I remember hearing about it as a kid. You know how tall tales get started. Mum's trying to make it sound more exiting than watching a bunch of guys in skirts tossin logs around.

Well, there's mysales pitch. Thanks for opening the door for me Keltic.

Anyone, let me know if you want me to snoop for some good links.

Nova Scotia...Stan Rogers Folk Festival...and all other suggestions before...it's ALL interesting! Far for me anyway so I wouldn't mind...

Hi all,

I've been off for a few days, doing major Spring Cleaning (Annabelle, you'd be proud of us! *Phew!!* ). I think the whole idea sounds marvelous!! I haven't read through all the posts about it, but I hope we can find a place that will be comfortably reachable for everyone who wants to come. What a hoot that will be to meet face-to-face!

I'm so glad you got all of that cleaning done. Don't you feel better after it's all nice and neat. Now your body may revolt but the house looks great and that makes youi feel great.
Hope you didn't hurt yourself and over do it!

So who's hosting this Celtic Radio Reunion and where is it? biggrin.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 12-Apr-2004, 07:58 PM
Mac (The powerful Oz)
We are all suggesting places that could be centrally located here in the USA for alot of us to get together 2008. We are all hoping to all meet at a Celtic, Scottish or Irish Festival in a place where the most can get together.
We figure we should all know each other pretty well by 2008 and know that there are no axe murders in the group.
I hope you approve!

Hi all,

I'd like to suggest a place as a possibility for the Reunion. It's in upstate Ohio, northeast corner, near PA. Salt Fork State Park. There are rolling hills, large lakes for fishing and boating, hiking trails, camping in all it's stages (from tent sites to cabins to Camper sites to a Main Lodge), golf course, horseback riding, and a few towns within easy distance for shopping, movies, whatever...

Just a thought, to add onto the list.

You are always so gracious to all of us! We certainly have alot of places to choose from. We will put them all together and then find festivals connected to areas. We will have entertainment and activities that way. We might with the Great and Powerful Oz's approval have a Celtic Radio tent like our clan tents where people can stop by and pick up a business card that has Celtic Radio's address on it and chat with people who are already members there. Then we'd have a place to hang and could set up lots of food and spirits for us all....and help introduce others to the site.
How do you guys feel about that? Tent or no tent?

Hi All,
I know here in Chicago they have an Irish fest every summer, we could hold it during the week the fest is going on. They have bands and food and all sorts of things. Plus the museums are close by since I do believe it is held in Grant Park. Anyone that has seen Married With Children has seen the Buckingham Fountain in the opening credits. The fountain is in Grant Park.

Annabelle,
Yes, right on the lakefront. Just sounth of Grant Park is the Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium. Just to the Northwest is the Art Institute. To the west is The Civic Opera House and the New CSO home, can't remember the name. Plus usually during the fest a lot of Irish bars have bands such as the Irish Rovers. It is usually the same weekend every year.

I was just on the Glengarry Bhoys web page and they had a 5 day cruise lined up in the caribean. It would be nice to do as Annabelle, I believe, suggested but try and get the ship to actively advertise as a Celtic cruise with several bands playing.

Posted by: tsargent62 13-Apr-2004, 12:08 PM
A cruise would be way cool. I love cruising. Been on 3. Set to go on 4th just after Christmas. If you haven't been on one you gotta try it!

Im not really the flashy Las Vegas type so I didn't really want to see a bunch of showgirls dancing with feathers the whole time and the history of these ships giving dsyentery or what ever it is that they all seem to be catching. (but if you only drink beer and drinks with no ice you will be ok.

You've never been on a cruise have you? Yes, there are Las Vegas style shows, but there are plenty of other forms of entertainment on a ship so you don't have to go to shows if you don't want to. Besides, there are other types of shows. Every ship I've been on has had some great comedy show. On my first cruise, Marty Feldman was one of the entertainers. Just take all those pre-conceived notions you have about cruises and toss them. There's entertainment to suit all tastes and ages.

I never felt any fear about drinking the water on a ship. No one got sick on any of the cruises I went on. Whatever that epidemic was has been over for about a year and a half. And, if you're concerned about it, you can drink bottled water, or, as you said, anything without ice.

Posted by: oldraven 13-Apr-2004, 01:40 PM
Come on guys. There's no way some of us would be able to swing a cruise. Not even if we came without kids. Ok, so I'm talking about myself then. I'm too young and un-established to get the big bucks like you retirees. tongue.gif

I got to go on cruises twice. The first time we had a short stop in Hawaii and a longer one in the Phillipines (I don't remember that one, but I was told that I had fun). The entertainment on board stunk: Lots of PT and such. sad.gif

Posted by: Liriel Baenre Do'Urden 13-Apr-2004, 01:52 PM
Why doesn't someone put in a poll and pick three centrally located areas that most of us can either drive to or fly to in the United States. Then the top one is the location. From there we can decide on food and entertainment.

I would like to throw in a location or two. I would vote from some where close to North central Pennsylvania or Thermopolis Wyoming.

Let's stay realistic.
#1 Has to be accessable by car
#2 centrally located
(no cruises)
#3 affordable to the most
#4 related activities for entertainment

We need to know who would want to come?

If most of the people that want to get together are mostly east coast folks then we should pick a spot that would accomodate those. If people from all over the US want to come then Kansas City, Missouri is the most centrally located for the entire country.
So far it appears from the posting that the most that want to get together are over around Ohio, Ill, Indiana, Pennsylvania, NJ, Va and Ga.
We need more in put from other members who may want to come.
If you are at all interested in attending please post on this thread so we can include your location as a consideration as to final location.
Also We are going to need musician's for this activity. Anyone want to volunteer or who can we get?
Thanks,
Annabelle

Old Raven if you save $20 US (or just over $25 Can) a month you would have over $1000 USD by the estimated summer 08 vacation that should be more than plenty. Until last month my wife worked part time (2-3 days a week) at a restaurant for every $20 in tips she made we put $5 into a vacation fund. We spent a week and a half in Sedona Az and a few days with a friend in Phoenix Az. in less than 6 months time.

I'm just teasing. I know we're not all old fogeys here. wink.gif

$1000 USD, eh? Well, it cost Ange and I $1400 CAN return to go home last summer. And that was on plane tickets alone. Including about $150 to fly our Shepherd out. unsure.gif You can see why flying is not my favorite way to get about.

What, Annabelle, Nova Scotia's not Central? Guess it depends on who's doorstep you're standing on. laugh.gif

First of all, it's April 2004. We still have 4 years to go on this. For the next 2 years, we should be just trying to get all interested parties on a list. Maybe Paul could start up a sign-up page. If you need to back out at sometime, you could remove yourself from the list.
In the meantime, all the suggestions as to where we will get together could be compiled and we could pick out our say, top 5. After that, a vote could be taken on the final destination. With a 2 year period before the party, could give everyone plenty of time to make reservations, get time off, get passports, etc.

No need to rush into anything yet. To many things could change what ever we decide on, the economy, unemployment, family, world peace, Saki drinking to much beer and flooding the Midwest.

No need to get crazy here. Plenty of time to put this all together.

Posted by: tsargent62 13-Apr-2004, 05:57 PM
Wisely spoken, ASE. I was thinking in a similar vein. Another factor to consider is that the geographics of our membership could change a lot in the interim. While it does seem like we have mostly an eastern North American membership now, who's to say in the next 2 years that might shift west. I know we're excited about the prospect, but patience my friends.

Posted by: A Shrule Egan 20-Apr-2004, 08:42 PM
Annabelle, since you started this, are you the one nominated to keep track of all the suggestions?
Do we need to create some actual rules that suggested sites must meet?
Set an actual date when we will begin an elimination process and a date for the final site.

Just some thoughts I was having if we are really going to organize this and make it successful.

Actually A Shrule Egan why don't you help me keep this organized. I have been writing down all of the locations suggested and another list of people who are sincerely interested in attending the reunion so I can do a mass mail out of information and suggestions.
But it would be nice if someone was helping with this. When we get this down to a few sites that meet our needs it needs to be voted on by all of those interested in attending. It's really important that everyone has a say in this. The most important thing is it has to offer the chance for the most to get together.

Posted by: Annabelle 20-Apr-2004, 08:59 PM
Actually ASE, that was the reason I started the Thread about those who would want to come to put their On line name and location next to it. That was the purpose to act as a sign up sheet!

Why did they do this, anyway? I know most four-wheelers I've driven were five up and five down. That makes sense to me. But any bike I've been on was one down four up etc. Why didn't they just go with the more logical and have all upshifts in one direction?

You have to remember I'm a retard. It's only been 20 years since I was last on a bike....no I'm not dyslexsic, retard maybe....It probably was One down and 4 up, but I remember it the other way. I use to ride a dirt bike and race a brother who's 6'6". Since it's been 20 years I got it wrong okay? Next time I go down to Pensacola, I'll tell my brother to give me his keys to his bike and I'll go for a refresher ride.
I have no idea what kind he has now, just that it's black and I never had time to go for a run. He lives on 88 acre's and they still do dirt biking out in the trails. He's asked me to go with him but I was too busy to take time and he never has time either so just haven't bothered.
Anyway, once I got large construction toys I had more fun tearing down and building stuff.
I'm more of a Jeep girl now but I'll check out his bike next time I go home.
So pardon the retards mistake.

That is the reason I don't plan to sit on my laurels. I plan on leaving for your parents pasture tomorrow, say you wouldn't send me their address would ya? Nah, they'd just send you out to the barrens and let you loose. I'd give you two minutes and you'd be so lost you wouldn't know which way is up. laugh.gif

We call it the barrens, not because there's nothing there, but because everything looks the same. The pine trees are spaced exactly the same, and even shaped the same, sitting on identical knolls with identical boulders jutting out of the dirt right beside. Then it's just you and the coyotes. unsure.gif It's like walking into a damn Dali painting. Sureal, to say the least.

The thing about Mum n Dads is you could beller what you want and no one would even hear you. The beauty of 350acres to yourself.

Liriel we are going to need those pretty hands of yours so don't go away! It's going to take alot of folks to organized this thing.

I thought maybe we could even have t-shirts that say "CelticRadio" with some type of artwork to display the celtic nations.

We could sell them at the get together and all of the profits could go to the radio station to help defray expenses on the station.

We will need to have our artistic folks on the network enter their designs by sending them to me here in Ga and then I can scan and everyone could vote. I have a guy here who makes my t-shirts and he'll do them for the same he does my salon t-shirts for. Only a suggestion...feed back please.
Annabelle

Posted by: A Shrule Egan 26-Apr-2004, 06:33 PM
I'll second the t-shirts. The guy does a nice job printing the shirts.

Annabelle, you do need to clear that with Paul before you do anything concerning that. Paul may have someone lined up on his end for that purpose. Plus, Paul owns the "Rights" to Celtic Radio and all the logos.

Posted by: A Shrule Egan 26-Apr-2004, 06:43 PM
If Paul gives you clearance for the t-shirts, I'm sure he would provide the artwork to the logos.

I think a get together is a wonderful idea. Ya'll could always come up here to Alaska. Sept. wouldn't have to worry about the humdity, just the chance it might snow. w00t2.gif
I know most of my family would come. I have a sister and daughter in Texas that would come.

Posted by: Annabelle 26-Apr-2004, 06:48 PM
You are certainly right brain child! We need to get Mac's permission for any and everything we do that speaks the words "CelticRadio".

We still need member's feed back on t-shirts. Artwork or Celtic Radio logo or any other suggestions?

Posted by: Annabelle 26-Apr-2004, 10:00 PM
I really think (only my opinion) all profits from anything we do should go to Mac to help fund additional equipment he may need. Computer and programming toys aren't cheap.

I've got another friend who has access to tents so I'm hoping to get one to use for free from him.

We are going to need people in charge of soda, beer and food too. Who wants to do what? Any volunteer's for anything?

Sis, what besides the location should we focus on right now?

Posted by: 3Ravens 26-Apr-2004, 10:19 PM
That would be the main thing right now, I would think. Do you also get the impression that people are leaning toward Nova Scotia? It's not really central, but would have the advantage of Oldraven's family place and a festival too. Where ever we choose should probably be decided by this fall, with a very tenative head count soon after.
It's not too early for getting ideas on tees and such, but too early to actually make them, unless you want them as a fund raiser.
Waaaayyyy to early to have to worry about who brings the beer, altho that IS important! tongue.gif You might start finding out who has things like tents and such available so we don't rent/buy things people already have.

I'd love Nova Scotia, but I've heard Ohio mentioned several times and PA as well. Both states have very nice highland games. Ohio has the Ohio Scottish Games in Oberlin, somewhere near Cleveland I think. In PA there's the Ligonier Highland Games. Oberlin is in June and Ligonier is in September. Beyond that I don't know much about the gameses in US. I compete mostly in Ontario. There's loads of them there.

Anyway, my point is, for both Ohio and PA there is a games we could focus our gathering around.

Posted by: 3Ravens 27-Apr-2004, 06:36 AM
That would work too, Todd! June might be better for those who want to bring the kids along.

Posted by: Liriel Baenre Do'Urden 27-Apr-2004, 06:50 AM
I say the tees are a good idea. I know I would buy at least 4 of them. Just let me know if any help is needed. Research, reports, sign up sheets, etc. I spend most of my time on computers all day so anything like that I can handle.

I think in the lines of food everyone one should bring a dish to pass or something like that. Does anyone know how long this little party is going to last. 2 days, 4 days a week?

I don't remember seeing any time frame for the stay.

Posted by: Annabelle 27-Apr-2004, 06:53 AM
Aren't kids great! Yea, we should bring the kids to teach them about Celtic, Irish and Scottish culture and traditions. I wish I'd done that when my kids were younger.
Having it around a festival is a added plus. That way we already have activities to go to it you want. Also It would give Mac more visibility for his network and help to increase memberships. New people getting involved in the posting would be nice. Different opinions and attitudes is a good thing as long as I get to keep my bar.(haha)

I will throw in my two pence for the Ligonier Games !

http://www.ligoniergames.org/

September is a lovley time of year in SW PA ..

The games take place in a charming old amusment park..
that is closed for the season..
so there are groves with picnic tables..
( wow de javu`)
Food tents.. clan tents.. all the trappings..
but there would be a place to gather.. at the Games..

And a very full week end also..
a few Ceildhs, and there are place there to hold one of your own..
The Furnice on the Mt comes to mind angel_not.gif

Ligonier is right there.. Fort Ligonier... lots of history and things to do..

Just a suggestion..

Tsargent always thinking right? Take it off! No, everyone's going to run screaming!

You definitely don't wear Renissance gear to a Highland Activity! People who are in highland gear look at the Renissance wearer's like they are on the Black side of the force, ya know what I mean?
But to each his own. If we were all alike the world would be a boring place.

I guess it is all in what you belive Ren garb is ..

I've yet to NOT see Celtic Bodices worn over chemmies and tartan skirts..

I canna speak for the men,, I don't have a habit of dressing like them...

Do any of you appreciate how hard it is to get Adult XXL underroos are?

That way we will know each other and of course stand out from the rest.
What ya think? unsure.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 30-Apr-2004, 06:43 AM
I agree.
I think the first day we all meet everyone should dress like that. Jean and CR tshirt. Then we could all pick up our name tags at the Celtic Radio tent and the name tag would have your user name on it so everyone would know who's who.
Then we'd have our tent to set up food and a common place to hang ya know?

Posted by: Annabelle 30-Apr-2004, 06:47 AM
Dressing up would be fun but not necessary to me. I'll go with whatever everyone wants to do.
As long as we all get together is all that is important to me. Now if we all came naked, I'd be on the ground laughing. So I prefer clothing of any kind!

Posted by: tsargent62 30-Apr-2004, 06:59 AM
Let me clear up what I said about Rennaisance garb. I've been going to highland games since the early 70s. I've seen a lot of Scottish regiment re-enactors, but have never seen anyone in what I'd call Ren garb. Most folks that go to games just dress in what they normally dress in for a day out.

I like the idea of the CR tee shirt.

Posted by: birddog20002001 30-Apr-2004, 07:47 AM
One thing that Paul might want to consider is that there a companies that make business cards for companies for free, I think you can get 500 for $12.00 shipping and they just have the e-mail address of the company on the back. You can choose out of many skins, fonts and even choose logos. They do real custom work for more money but, He could make some up and those that want to could get some from him every one would pay their own shipping plus cost. That way when you talk to some one especially at Hoghland games or Renn Faires you could hand them out and any persons you talk to would have something tangible to "remember" to find the site. I certainly wouldn't mind doing some advertising for CR.

Posted by: oldraven 30-Apr-2004, 08:37 AM
Then there's always the option of buying business card packs at the stationary store and printing them off yourself. But yes, something like that. Or pamphletes with even more info. Actually, no one wants to lug around a pamphlet all day, so cards are a better idea.

I think, rather than show up at the event looking for each other in matching tee's, we should just meet up first at the campground, or someone's house first. That way we can have a bit to introduce ourselves and have a beer before going as a group. smile.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 30-Apr-2004, 08:54 AM
There is "Vista Print" makes cards for free and they make the cards for Free and you pay only the shipping.
You can even down load your own logo onto their site and have cards made.

Well I wasn't plan on dressing up in my Ren garb, but I was going to actually make another outfit like my husband's.

I made him a kilt, shirt etc. He looks like a Scotland lord when he's all decked out. I found a pattern to make an outfit like his but in a Lady's size.

But I'm for meeting ahead of time for a beer. I parched today. beer_mug.gif

You misunderstand, my sweet. I think the tee shirts are a good idea. I also think it would be a good idea to meet somewhere before getting to the games. I don't know about you, but when I see you and the others for the first time I'd like it to be a more intimate setting than some bustling, crowded games site. Doesn't that sound nice? hug.gif

So far, it looks like the toughest part is finding the right event for us to gather. We are looking for a central location, so nobody is left having to travel any great distance (the Canadian and international members will have it a little tougher).

Most festivals don't have camping on site. Since many members have said they would prefer camping, we need to find a festival that has camping and hotels nearby plus the surrounding area should have some type of tourist attractions. I suspect that most will be on vacation more than just the few days of the festival and we need to make sure there are things to do besides the festival.

The Fergus Scottish Festival (http://www.fergusscottishfestival.com/) which is about 40 minutes from Toronto and the Glengarry Highland Games (http://www.glengarryhighlandgames.com/), between Ottawa and Montreal, both have camping on the grounds with beer tents and entertainment going on into the night.

The Ohio Scottish Games has on site camping. This year it's at the Lorraine County Fair Grounds which is just southwest of Cleveland. Info is at http://www.ohioscottishgames.com. This year the games is on June 24. A bonus is that Cleveland is near by and there is a lot to do there.

Richard's got the idea. Hand shakes for those who need hand shakes, and hugs for those of us who can handle it. king.gif

What about CR pins? No, not those big ugly buttons, nice little pewter pins. Hey Keltic, you ever tried making those? Hell, you make brooches, why not?

user posted image
Just come up with some CR related badge. Something CR people would notice, but that wouldn't make us stick out like a billion sore thumbs. (Check the liberal acting all conservative wink.gif ) Just goes to show you, some of us are much more shy in RL.

Oldraven good idea on the pin idea's! Actually wonderful idea! Keltic can you take that and make CR in the middle?

Tell Ang not to kick me too hard, I'm old!

Then when people ask what does the CR stand for?

Depending on the situation you can give a honest answer of celtic Radio or:
you can say:

CR stands for:

Can't remember
Can't rite
Can't read
Chad Ryley
Charging Radio
Chard Remains
Cher Reeks
Cargo ready
Carbon rhyoniside
cards red
corrosive residue
choppers ready

I also like the idea about a pin. Make a nice keepsake and it can be worn after. I know I'd wear it and with pride. biggrin.gif

Posted by: tsargent62 03-May-2004, 01:06 PM
For myself, a pin wouldn't be my bag. I think it would be fine for the ladies, but I'm sure that the men would have a hard time figuring out how and on what to wear a pin. I know I would.

Posted by: oldraven 03-May-2004, 01:17 PM
Guy's can't wear pins? unsure.gif Since when? Maybe things are different down there. I know up here we wear them on lapels, caps, pocket flaps, whatever. It doesn't have to be a broach to be a pin. About the size of a dime is what I'm talking about. I asume that image isn't actual size.

Posted by: tsargent62 03-May-2004, 01:33 PM
I guess that's true. It's just not my thing.

Posted by: Annabelle 03-May-2004, 01:59 PM
HEY isn't that a song:

It's your thing
do what ya want to do
I can't tell ya
who to sock it to
hey it's yor thing!

I really like a celtic broach for the women we could also wear it with our plaids or tartans as wee scottish heritage folks prefer ta sa et!
Maybe Keltic could do this and make a smaller version for the guys to wear on their ball caps shirts or where ever they want to put it.
Mr.M, I"ll help ya put it somewhere! Might hear a ouch from ya! And then after we have a few we could play pin the brouche on Peckery. All of the girls! At one time!

How about this for an idea. For my fourtieth birthday, we had a kind of beer tasting party. Everyone brought a different, preferably non-mass produced, beer for everyone to try. It was great! We got to try all sorts of beers we hadn't heard of and they were all good. The person who brought the one I liked the best got a fifth of Kahlua. The winner was a dopple boch from Germany called Celebrator.

We could do that at our camp. Everyone could bring their favourite beer from their region. For example, the Bell's Brewery in Kalamazoo, MI, only ships within Michigan and some adjacent states. Folks from other areas wouldn't have the chance to try it, so one of their beers would be what I would bring. Sounds like fun, eh? What do you think? beer_mug.gif

Posted by: Annabelle 04-May-2004, 07:34 AM
Sure, sounds interesting. I got the feeling everyone is going to come up with stuff for all of us to do....good thing we will have a few days.

Posted by: A Shrule Egan 04-May-2004, 04:55 PM
Maybe one of our tech smart folks can figure out a way to have a live cam at the CR tent and have it hooked up to the web page. This way, those who could not make it, will have some kind of idea what's going on and see who is there. (Most likely see Annabelle taking a swing at somebody>) tongue.gif

This doesn't even have to be a contest, just bring some along for everyone to enjoy. I stop at micro breweries all the time, so I usually have a pretty good supply.

OK, we're going to meet up somewhere first. but we still need a CR tent at the festival. Gotta have a central place to collapse if needed, plus gotta do LOTS of PR for the station.
Pin, Tee, whatever. You decide, I'll wear it. No armor tho, too hot and heavy. I'll just take my chances with Sis. tongue.gif

What do you think would go through an event promoters mind if we tried to reserve 87 adjacent campsites? laugh.gif
