In my short time here on the forum, I've seen some very interesting and unique usernames. Would anyone care to explain why they chose what they did, and if it has any special meaning?
My username has a combination of meanings.
The Avonlea part is a fictional town in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, made famous by author L.M. Montgomery, in her story Anne of Green Gables (see my signature). It was also part of the name of a Canadian television series, Road to Avonlea, based on the works of the same author. I'm a very big Anne of Green Gables, Road to Avonlea, Prince Edward Island (PEI) and Canada fan.
The 22 is the day of the month I was married last year; December 22, 2003
So...how about yours?

How did I come up with the name wizardofowls in the first place? Well, its a long story...
Back in the old days I used to love reading fantasy novels and playing AD&D. These pursuits consumed me. Quite literally. Every waking hour of every day was spent passionately working on an imaginary world I was creating for role-playing, or reading fantasy books, or playing AD&D with my circle of friends. I even carried a note pad around with me at work in case I was inspired with some new detail for my world!
I also used to love fantasy art. One of my favorite pieces was a painting of a wizard in purple robes on a white horse. He is surrounded by a flock of owls. The painting is beautiful and done in pastel shades of pinks and blues. The name of the painting? "Wizard of the Owls." The artist's name is Janny Wurts. It was used as the cover of a fantasy book centered around the King Arthur legends... "That Way Lies Camelot."
When I first got my computer 6 years ago, I tried and tried to find an e-mail box name that I liked that hadn't already been taken. I couldn't find anything. Finally, out of desperation, I typed in the name wizardofowls, and surprise, surprise, it was accepted! I have a terrible memory, and trying to remember what sign-in name I used on different web groups is beyond me, so out of habit I always use wizardofowls. So now, not only do I have 2 e-mail boxes in that name, but I have also subscribed to 14 Yahoo Gaelic groups, 1 MSN Gaelic group, 2 Gaelic e-mail lists, a Gaelic forum, and this group, all under the name wizardofowls.
I am a Christian now, and don't mess with fantasy anymore but I still use the name since it would be such a pain to change my name on all of those lists.

Well, my explanation comes in two parts.
First, Immortal: My AOL screenname is DynamisImmortal, the Dynamis coming from a queen in the Crimea during the early Roman Empire, and the Immortal coming from my love of vampire literature and a loathing for adding a bunch of confusing numbers at the end.
Avalon got added here because I found this place while running search for stuff about King Arthur in France. It took me to the Brittany forum where I read some of the Arthurian posts, and, true to form, just had to put in my two cents worth. Of course, it didn't hurt that I just love Marion Zimmer Bradley's Mists of Avalon and the other books in that series, either, lol.

To answer this question I should try to explain what "gaberlunzies" are.
Scotland was a poor country...the only real wealth had always been the possess of land which was rare to get and the rich people have been the landowners.
For most of the other folk, even for advocats, teachers or craftsmen it was difficult to earn a life...and most difficult for those who didn't have the possibility to work for a life and who became beggars.
Now there have been many of them who had been soldiers who had been wounded and crippled in battles. For those villages and towns gave a permission to stay inside the municipality as beggars. They handed them small metal pieces, some round like medals, some longish, which were the official sign that the person who owns them was allowed to be a beggar. They were treated much more friendly than the "common" beggar folks, too.
Those metal pieces were called "gaberlunzies".
I loved the idea that they had been travelling the whole country, villages and towns with their owners and asked myself, "What if they could speak...which stories they could tell!"
This is why I chose this nickname.
