I have Norton internet Security/Antivirus 2004 Pro installed on two of my PC's and the following happened: Both machines had custom pagefile sizes set to 2gig. After install of NIS/NAV 2004 now pagefile size is reduced to the Windows maximum recommended size (in this case 671meg). I know NIS/NAV is responsible because I had to uninstall it from one of the machines and the pagefile immediately returned the custom size I had selected. Reinstalled and immediately back to max of 671meg. Symantec Tech support is useless (as usual). Any ideas? unsure.gif

Uninstall Norton and go to www.grisoft.com and down load AVG the free edition. This is an open source anti virus progream that my computer tech told me about .. It works great and has free updates, etc. and does not bog down your machine!

Install Suse Linux 9.1. If you go to your local newsstand and buy the Dec. 2004 issue of LinuxPro magazine for $10 (US), you'll get the DVD install with it. It's what I'm using now, and I've abandoned all other linux distributions, however good they might be. biggrin.gif

If you absolutely must run Windows, this is excellent advice.

Sounds like as good a reason as any to run Suse. Also why I started my Linux life with RedHat. It came with the books I found.

Ya know, it's funny how all the Linux virus scanners I'm aware of are written to protect not the Linux machine they're on, but a Windows box that they store information for.

I agree. After putting up with Norton's virus-like behaviour for far too long, I installed AVG and have been very pleased with AVG. The performance improvement alone makes this a very worthwhile upgrade.

Another good program is Nod32. This program goes medieval on viruses (virii) and just kicks the bejeezus out of them. We recommend this one a lot at work, as well as the AVG program. Both are accessible by screen readers, and work better than Norton and McAfee.
