It is with sadness that I must advise you that our CelticDJ bot from our chat room has been retired. We plan on having a retirement party for him next Saturday at 9:30.

He may come out of retirement when the next version of our broadcast software is released on 9/1/02. :D - but we are not sure if he will be included in the next version or not!

In other news, our new broadcast software will support live phone voice call ins! So, if you wanted to wish someone a happy birthday or some other event such as that, we will have a voice mail system that you can easily record a message and the broadcast software will automatically insert it into the broadcast. I believe you will be able to make live requests this way too - automatated with the website.

This is just the tip of the iceburg too. We got so many features and improvements coming down the pike, including a possible 128k MP3/CD quality stream. To my knowledge, I am not aware of any other independent Celtic webcasters broadcasting at 128k! We will also have unlimited listener slots on all of our future streams.

Yes, a good package is coming, however the reason it is coming is due in part to the CARP royalty fees. This station and website will make every effort to be 100% compliant with the new laws and fee structure. In fact our broadcasts fees and licenses are covered until 9/1/02 under the Audiorealm blanket coverage. On or about 9/1/02 the powers at Audiorealm will sit down with the RIAA and try to negotiate a better rate.

We will see how it all works out, but we plan to be a player and continue to provide Celtic music on the internet. I think you are going to see alot of stations drop by the way side. Already one particular station I know of has received letters from BMI with a contract and request for the $1,800 license fee. He has chosen not to respond, but eventually he will need to deal with it.

I totally agree with you Dave that this is being driven by greed. At the sametime, after thinking long and hard about this, there is the need for webcasters to pay something to musicians for their work. Afterall, what would happen if everyone setup a webcasting station and offered music for free forever! You would not setup a regular radio station on AM/FM dials and give it away for free. My main concern is with musicians being reimbursed for their creative talents. But just like charity organization, it seems that everyone is going to take their cut before the musicians actually gets paid. Look at the record labels, some groups only get 2-3% of the profit from a record. Look at Michael Jackson on the news protesting the president of Sony Music Corporation and stating he is an evil evil man.

We will support all actions to help repeal the DMCA of 1998, but realistically we need to have a plan to operate under the new regs, otherwise we are done.

See I would disagree to some degree. Awhile back I was watching CNN (I think) and they had an article on how the record industry had been over charging for CD's since day 1. In my view they have gotten what they desire for their work because they over charged for it for so many years.

Besides they still sell CD's & Tapes that is where their income comes from. Radio should be free to play besides without radio they may not get good record sales because they might not get the exposure they get by being played on the radio so... ::confused

So in my view and my 2 cents they have been properly played for it. Whats next are they going to start charing parties for playing their tunes? Saying you can't play the tunes for your friends who are over because they aren't paying them? Where does it end if you bought the CD or Tape you have already paid them the right to use the CD or Tape as you see fit!!! :{

Yes, and they want to blame the internet for their decline in CD sales, when what is really driving it is a surge in sales of DVD's!

I would rather spend $15 on a DVD that comes with a movie, special features, bonus material and the ability to play it in 5, 10 or 15 years. Or would I rather spend $18 on a CD that is going to get thrown in a closet somewhere and possibly sold at a yard sale in 10-15 years!
