Rindy, I'm so sorry to see this topic. And I'm sorry that my laziness kept from from being here for you sooner. I'm fortunate to still have both of my parents, but a friend of mine recently lost her father to a sudden heart-attack (he was only a year older than me!). An only child, she was left with wrapping up his business in two fields (accountant and nurse), clean up his condo for sale, deal with relatives, etc. Seems to me that the tragedy isn't always just (!) the death, but the grief and difficult work that follows that death. I hope that you are getting a lot of support from your local friends and family, and that you've been able to take some comfort in the sincere good wishes sent to you by the members here.

Love and hugs to you and your family!

Englishmix - thanks for posting that! Old Robbie Burns surely had a way wi' his tongue didn'a he!

OK, so much for my faux brogue. These are hard times and we do need to stick together and help one another as we can. I heard something on MSNBC today that seems to me to be right on. So many of us had pinned so many of our hopes on things changing when Barack Obama was inaugurated that he'd almost have to be super-human to live up to our expectations. The problem is that he doesn't work in a vacuum ... no matter how high his intentions, he still has to work with other flawed humans (namely Democrats AND Republicans), and that aggravation will take a long time to subside.

In the meantime, we have our fellow members here to encourage, sympathize and support us!

Another New Englander!!! Yeah! I'm a long-time member who has been long-time absent, sorry to say. It's my laziness, nothing to do with the music or the members, both of whom/which ( unsure.gif ) are great!

Welcome Piper of the Moor - we, I would suspect, all love bagpipes!

Luxor - interesting name! Did you know that some historians believe that there were Celts serving as mercenaries in the Pharaoh's armies? Interesting conjunction, here!

Sounds GREAT! One of my dreams is to eventually be able to celebrate the Sabbats outdoors. Some day, it WILL happen!

Anyway, I love the idea of burning the greens, and making your own cheese. Cool!

Thanks, Nightchild. It was interesting! And we've now got a plot going - since we had so much fun making the talismans, we're going to explore the possibility of making others, donating them to our local Magik shop and having them sell them, with the proceeds going to support some worthwhile cause - animal shelters, battered women shelters, homeless ... things like that!

Hope your celebration was wonderful!

It's easy to get confused on this. Think about how it is for people living in the Southern Hemisphere. Imagine celebrating Yule in 90 degree weather! And then you add in those of us who can't always do group rituals on the DAY but have to do them on the Sunday before because that's the only time we can get together. I WISH we could do Ritual on the correct day; it would be so much more meaningful!

Hope the wounded are feeling better soonest!

We're getting our revenge for a nice week, weather-wise. It's pouring out now, and will rain off and on all weekend rolleyes.gif However, it's only 50 degrees, which is almost unheard of in February in New England.

Short day today to make up for all of the early & late days this week. Yippee! All the more time to prepare for ... gee, I don't know ... Maybe I'll SLEEP! wink.gif

Have a good day, everyone!

As Neville, you may be shy and clumsy, but you are loyal, gentle and generous, admired for your easy going nature.

'Tis as I feared ... the life of a glamorous leader is not mine! wink.gif

QUOTE (AyaLove @ 24-Jan-2006, 07:17 PM)
I agree with Shadows, I do all of my work at home in my sacred space, the only occaion on which it do something in public is on samhain when a local coven hold ritual in the park. smile.gif

I've never actually worked in public - just in the company of our ritual group. Some of us from the group are thinking of going to Akasha Con in March - if so, we'll be participating in the drumming circle, at least, as well as doing some of the workshops.

3 of the 5 of us went to an introduction to runes class last week, and we practiced doing readings after our early-Imbolc ritual on Sunday. I think that I was the only one of the group who didn't even get Raidha, which, reversed (the way it came up in all of the readings) means, among other things - no travelling! sad.gif

Just wishing everyone a happy Imbolc. Since our group meets on Sunday nights, we celebrated last night. I ran the ritual, which was taken directly from the Lewellyn Candlemas book - a ritual to honor the Smiths: Brigit in her Smith form, and Wayland. In spite of the cream of potato soup that I made to use instead of ale having too much garlic, and my forgetting the bread for cakes and having to use Keebler crackers instead, it went pretty well.

The thing that caught my attention was the part of the ritual that required us to meditate on some aspect of our lives that we'd like to improve, then think of a symbol to represent that, then to make a talisman using that symbol, and finally drumming up energy to infuse the talismans.

I bought several colors of Fimo polymer clay and we made the talismans - an interesting procedure, and a lot of fun.

I'd be interested in hearing how others celebrate this Sabbat!

according to some of my reading, the dates that aren't solstice or equinox related were often set by planting or harvest times, so depending on where you were geographically you could be celebrating them anywhere from a week to two weeks apart. Since we're really not (in many cases, anyway) an agrarian society, the dates have been fixed.

Welcome! The last time I was in Glasgow was about 20 years ago and it was, unfortunately, at the end of a long trip so I didn't get to enjoy it as I should have. Gosh! Just realized that was before you were born! sad.gif Anyway, welcome, and plunge right in. Just remember, there are no dumb questions wink.gif

I heard about this on the radio the other day - have to admit that it's the first I'd consciously heard of him, but I'll definitely have to look up some of his work. Interesting how similar Celtic and Native American spiritualities can be, isn't it?!
