Maideann mhath,
Does anyone have any bursting advice about planting groves??

How many trees and how far apart would you consider is best planting for a grove???
Are mixed tree groves good, or is it better to stick to a theme??

Any tips would be appreciated,

In my humble opinion a grove is not planted but rather a natural combination of trees and herbs ( yes all lower forms of plants are considered herbs ) that have found a place that the energy and spirit of said entities is strong. Here these entities thrive and expand the energy that gathered them to this spot. Spacing would be natural selection and the types of plants would depend on your location and climate. For those of you that garden in the disipline of companion planting the understanding of this principle should be clear. Each entity should compliment the others in either protection, or nurturing.

First I'd ask myself a few questions:

1. What is the end result I'd like to have? In other words, what will it look like in the end?

2. What trees have special significance to me?

3. Would they survive in my area?

4. Will I get the results I'm looking for in my lifetime given the trees I've chosen?

5. Am I prepared to nurture this for the rest of my life?

Given that I have no earthly idea what the growing zone/climate is in your neck of the woods, I can't really give many answers off the top of my head. But I'd say some serious research into trees is in your future.

Once you get an idea of what you'd like to plant, I might be able to help a little more.

I would also ask acerage and a ball park estimate of how much you plan to spend.

if I could offer any advice as a plant heath care specialist, and lumberjack in the US I would like to help in any pseudo-technical way to design a "grove"...though I do agree with shadows, as my friend states the better grove is that which is discovered, secluded, the only human traces are your own...But in a way I can understand the want to build one.
Perhaps not on the same level as a natural level, but perhaps a quiet place to sit and meditate. I myself have a place in the back of my property that is still wild, and I have cut a path to for better access, and have cleared hazard trees. I have not planted but have managed the area for a lil while now. It is my own private woods that I have designated scientifically as "old growth control" and I do not cut in the area biologically as a seed crop for the rest of the woods.
