Actor Daniel Craig is to be the next James Bond, it has been reported.

He has been offered a three-film deal by producer Barbara Broccoli, according to The Sun.

Craig, 37, starred in the gangster film Layer Cake.

The newspaper said he had been competing with fellow British actor Clive Owen to take over from Pierce Brosnan.

However, Owen had told casting agents he did not want the job as he feared it might limit his career.

Other names mentioned at different times in connection with the 007 role have included Eric Bana, Jude Law, Heath Ledger, Ewan McGregor, Dougray Scott and Australian Hugh Jackman.

Sean Connery will be playing 007 again-in a sense. He will be doing voiceover work for a new 007 video game based on "From Russia With Love".

That's very interesting! Sean Connery is always and only going to be the James Bond of my heart!!!

Pierce Brosman never made me believe he was James!

I'll believe it when I see it. Just a few months ago, it was reported that Eric Bana was to be the next Bond. Dougray Scott is still my first pick.

What???!!??? Daniel Craig??? Nnooo! Uh-Uh, no way.....absolutely not!! disgust.gif He's a good actor, but falls so far short of being James Bond it's not funny.

The one they should be seriously considering is James Purefoy, from "A Knight's Tale". (He played Prince Edward). MUUUCH BETTER!!!

Dreamer1, I should have looked at that picture early in the morning, not so late at night. I've had a heck of a week and if I go thru anymore excitement, I might fall over dead! Wow, that is one hunk of a feller!

Last night, I was flipping past one of the shows where they talk about the entertainment business (I think it was on MSNBC or CNBC) and the panelists were talking about the next 007. One of them said Timothy Dalton was their favorite jawdrop.gif .

Timothy Dalton was the WORST Bond IMHO.

Here's how I'd rank the 007s, from best to worst:

1. Sean Connery
2. Pierce Brosnan
3. Roger Moore
4. Timothy Dalton

Mike,

You're forgetting George Lazenby (sp?), in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" -- also starred Diana Rigg! Diana was wonderful, but I've always thought that Lazenby was the worst -- definitely not the right type for Bond! (My hubby says I just didn't like the story line, or the ending, but that's only part of it. I never could accept George as Bond, and that seriously undermines everything else.) Other than that, I agree that Dalton was a huge disappointment as Bond.

It's very hard to top Sean Connery!! cool.gif

I came across this story a few days ago, but wasn't sure if it was true or not. I agree with everyone that Sean Connery is the ultimate Bond and that Daniel Craig shouldn't be the next Bond. I personally like Owens the best, but would settle for one of the other actors except Craig. He just doesn't give off that possible Bond vibe that one of the other guys like Clive Owens or Ioan Gruffudd gives off.
