"The Promise" was the first song Eamon and Paul wrote together, Paul composed the music fully intending it to be an instrumental, then decided to send his work on to Eamon to see if it would work with lyrics. Eamon spontaneously wrote the lyrics in reaction to the music and within a couple of hours the first vocal track had been laid.
