Interesting you mention this Cassie, I just found tonight that for whatever reason we had doubled up on our Enya songs meaning that it was more likely that one of her songs would play! (There were duplicate copies in our broadcast software).
In my case big Enya fan. She was one of the first singers I heard on a regular basis thanks in part to the show Baywatch as they used her music as backgrounds for some of there scenes. Though I request more Scottish Rogues then anything else that and lately Ennis Sisters.
A lot of the pipe music we've got to choose from is from those misc. generic pipes and drums of scotland type CDs. All cds that everyone has anyway cause they are so cheap but bands no ones heard of.
Is it not possible yet to play more music by any of the world class Pipe Bands?, or do you just not have it?
No, I'm really not complaining lol....but a piper does get sick of amazing grace and scotland the brave once in a while...I'd love to hear Blue Cloud.

You have a good point Cassie. One of the issues we deal with at Highlander Radio is obtaining new music. Since we are currently non-profitable any expenses for new music comes directly out of my pocket (as well as all other charges, bandwidth, website, electricity, DSL). We really have not had the time to actively promote Highlander Radio to musicians. We do receive new CD?s from musicians, but not enough to support the station.
While bagpipe music is important and I agree we need some world class bagpipe bands on here, we just can not afford to sink all of our eggs into bagpipe music. When we created Highlander Radio, we wanted to provide a wide mix of music that appealed to Celtic Rockers all the way to Senior Citizens that want more of a traditional music style. So, until we have a revenue stream, our music database will be limited. Currently we have about 2,500 songs, I think looking forward we would like to grow this number to 25,000 ? 50,000 songs.
One item I would like to bring up now, is what I see going on with other radio stations accepting MP3 downloads from their listeners. I ran across a webcaster the other night that is actively promoting and encouraging his listeners to rip their CD?s and send him the files so he can play these on his broadcast. To me that is not right and is a violation of copyright law. I want to be clear that Highlander Radio will legally obtain all musically content and will be 100% in compliant with the copyright royalty rate payments that are required. The purpose of our site is to not only to introduce Celtic music to our listeners, but to also provide a useful service to musicians so that people will buy their CD?s and support their music.
BRAVO....that is one thing I'd never do...I will buy all my pipe music...will never burn a piping CD....just couldnt do it.
Do you accept CDs from bands that arent real well know?...I have friends in celtic bands...some of which are really good..and even a few pipe bands that would like attention... If I got them to start listening and send you CDs would you listen to them?
Also...that chatroom I sent you a link to...email the guy that runs it, Bob Norris, hes a great guy...bet you could get him to put a link on the page...
I'll see what I can do to get all my fellow pipers to tune in time to time...I know theyd love it.

We always accept CD?s from any artist, whether known or unknown. We probably could be out there promoting this, but like I said we are very in-tuned to building the whole site first. What?s that quote from that baseball movie made a few years back??If you build it they will come.?
Definitely tell your musician friends and pipers that we can play their music on the broadcast and all of their songs will be request-able, so they can come on and hear their tunes on Highlander Radio!
Also, we are going to implement some unique technologies in the not to distant future that will allow listeners to see the album cover on our front page with personalized links to their website and to purchase the CD, etc. The idea is to introduce the listener to the artist and give them the opportunity to hear the song and then go to their website. If you think about it, unless someone actually hears the artist song they are most likely not going to find out who they are, visit their site and purchase their CD.
