Hear, the War Bell
Now does peel
Forwarning what we dread
And soon alarum shatters dawn
And all our Hope has fled.
Besides me lies
The one I love
Awakened by the din
A cry of fright
Escapes her lips
And tears do
Stain here cheeks
Without a thought
My arms enfold
Her form to draw
It near. In tenderness
I hold her close and
Try to ease her fear.
With voice so soft
She does envoke
Apollo, hear my plea
Turn back this foe
From our fair shore
And make their ships to leave.
A thousand sails to rival Iris
And hulls as black as pitch
With measured sweep
Their oars propel
Then headlong to the Beach.
Aboard each one
Stands Fifty Spears
All glinting in the sun
For on this day Proud Mycenae
Makes War on Illium
With armour donned
And greaves strapped tight
I bid my Love Goodbye
Clutching shield and spear in hand
I rush forth to the fight.
From that first day until this night
Ten years have passed away
For all those years we bravely stood
In proud Mycenaes'way
Now with deceit and trickery
An entrance they have gained
Fair Illium will fall to ruin
As was it fore ordained.
Through rooms and halls
All filled with dead I rush
To my Love fair,to late,
I see the blade descend
And cry out in despair.
Oh cursed blade I thought was lost
What foul deed have you wrought
In pain and rage I turn about
Awaiting for my Fate
And as I watch the foe draw near
I look upon her face
It won't be long My truest Love
I won't be long
Just wait.

A wonderful story of war and love you've written here Camac, I love it.
I see that your in Greek mythology here is it base on Homer's story or the Mycenean people which little is known except that they disapearred quite suddenly. And they were a civilization that lived lavishly from what was discoverd.

And btw why don't you start a new topic in our history forum about the Greeks history my friend, it would be interesting to see what is our people knowledge of it.

Thanks it's a well written story Camac.

LOA;

I'm pleased you like the poem. To open a Forum on Greek History is to open a Forum on western civilization as everything we are is based on them. 3000 years BCE the people speaking the language we call Greek occupied what is now modern day Greece and started spreading out into the islands of the Aegean. 1800 years later they had destroyed Troy, conquered Crete, possible invaded northern Egypt, and had fought the Hittites and Summerians. All this while still semi-barbaric. Their days of real glory were ahead of them. It is a topic that I could write tomes about.

Dave;
This one is most surely a tragic story we seem to repeat over and over.
Well said,
