Celtic Radio Community > Celtic Radio > We Are Back!

Posted by: Macfive 14-Feb-2004, 01:30 PM
We did it! Through the generous donations of the Highlander Radio listeners we are back streaming again.

Highlander Radio is now an officially licensed ASACP and BMI Station! And that makes me proud that we are in complaince with all applicable U.S. laws.

It's going to take a week to get everything back. Only the broadband stream is working. Go to our main page near the middle of the page you will see a new yellow speaker that has our broadband stream. We will be updating the other links and rearranging stuff over the weekend too, so expect to find some links that don't work (like our old streams).

We have updated the tune-in page with new instructions. Note that you don't necessarily need to use live365's player. You can use winamp, real audio, iTunes, etc. You just need to configure it from your live365 listener account.

Any questions, please email me!

And it doesn't skip =) still not a freat buffer fill, but it'll work I guess. Glad to have the music back. So, exactly where do we stand now? Exactly what does that licensing mean if there's still a ton of folks to contact about royalties?

I can't believe how quickly you pulled this off! It's great to have the old format back. Keep us posted on what we can do to help. thumbs_up.gif

Paul,

Thank you for all of your hard work and thank the missus for her patience.

To you and your family:

May you live a long life
Full of gladness and health,
With a pocket full of gold
As the least of your wealth.

May the dreams you hold dearest,
Be those which come true,
The kindness you spread,
Keep returning to you.

May the friendships you make,
Be those which endure,
And all of your grey clouds
Be small ones for sure.

And trusting in Him
To Whom we all pray,
May a song fill your heart,
Every step of the way.

Wonderful news tonight, Paul!!!!! Thank you so much for all you've done to make this happen!! Thanks to Shari, too, as I'm sure she's helped (or at least provided moral support through this mess!) Phew! I hope you can relax now and enjoy the rest of the weekend with your family.

Thanks again, to both of you!! clap.gif cheers.gif clap.gif w00t2.gif

Your very much welcome. I am just glad that music is flowing again. We have a backlog of 10 new CD's we received in the past week (busy), so hopefully we can get those up on the broadcast soon.

It is such a big job keeping everything moving smoothly. Shari has been helping alot monitor the emails and she is good with fixing computers. She fixed the webserver the other day when the power supply blew up. It is a good thing we keep fire alarms around the servers, just in case you never know. I am not sure if it would have caught on fire if we did not discover it so soon.

Ok, the royalty payments. Live365 is taking care of those for us. I imagine that they have some very good programming that identifies which songs they get charged. Plus, them being so large they probably have their own deal with the RIAA that is less.

I am starting to notify all new artists to write us a note giving us permission to broadcast until we get a legal form. Again, looking down the road we don't want to be tied to one company (live365) forever, but wouldn't think we would leave their services if we get a presence on there.

Thanks again for all your kind comments!

I am glad that it's back
and my little buck is not wasted
but I have some problem on pocket pc
that live365.com don't display properly, and the now playing popup don't show up
and I'll tryout the modem stream later (mainly used on GPRS)

Oh how you have been missed! Thanks Paul

I am sooooooooooooo thankful to you and the Mrs. for getting us back into the music again! I don't have broadband and can't get it in my area sad.gif , so I will wait patiently for the other service to work from you for us dial-up folks. However, I have been listening to Live 365 and while it has a buffering problem with me it is not too bad and certainly better than nothing!

The new modem stream is working fine on my Mac at home. Thanks so much!

Your all very much welcomed! Well, we blew the donation account up, but we are now fully complaint with the new laws concerning streaming. The total cost we had to come up with was over $700! Along with donations we had previously in the account along with what we received we were able to do it!

We now have 3 streaming accounts: broadband, modem and special programming. The special account is only paid until April, so we would like to do the same with that - get 1 year of streaming.

We also have a new secondary hosting account that will be setup in a few days. Hopefully we can increase the speed of the site with this account.

Thanks for all your kinda comments here! It is good to know that Highlander Radio is a legal broadcast fully licensed. There was also a question brought up about companies that make the broadcast software available going after internet radio broadcasters. Can't remember where I saw this post, but I think it was on NPR.

Around the middle of last year we purchased a professional broadcasting package that contains all of the licenses for the technologies we use. We paid $200 for this package. The technology that compresses the files and such is all owned and/or licensed by AudioRealm.com.

So we are legal all around!

I decide to play all night 2night, and it'll be running over FM as well
and I'd like to provide some music name to play, perhaps some are rare to find
keep it good work, paul

I wish I lived in your neighborhood! That FM setup is very cool. I listen to the broadcast just like everybody else, through my computer! rolleyes.gif

I can't tell you how happy I am. Before my Real Audio used to cut out on me after an hour of playing and this new system is like the Duracell bunny! It just keeps on playing with no cuts outs from my computer! I am one real happy camper!

Thank you Paul and Mrs. MacFive! thumbs_up.gif I would send more beers your way, but don't want to get you drunk! laugh.gif You have children to tend to! angel_not.gif

for me, via the computer is priobably better than FM. Same amp and speakers anyway =) Cool that someone's relaying it over the airwaves though =) Get it to those who can't or wouldn't hear it the other way.

2morrow will be more fun
with modem stream and GPRS, I can play while I'm working
I wouldn't listen to local music radio, it's way too boring
same as radios from Hong Kong as well (it's 0200 there, running late night program)
since I'm located in basement, I am unable to receive WFUV (wmp stream is unreliable)
I did a test, using GPRS to receive modem stream again
it lasts about 15 minutes b4 stopping
this should be good enough for GPRS
rumor says T-Mobile will provide WCDMA later (no expecting date)
if it happens, with unlimited plan, this'll be perfect to make highlanderradio 100% mobile, and stereo stream

Posted by: CelticRose 15-Feb-2004, 09:53 PM
Actually, Aaediwen! I have excellent speakers with my computer system. Like it better than my stereo even! So this has been so wonderful and plus the Live365 offers you instant information on who the artists are that are playing. I am sure the old system did that, but the only way I knew to do it was go to the home page and look it up. This way it is more accessible to me. I am just thrilled to death over the whole thing! beer_mug.gif beer_mug.gif beer_mug.gif beer_mug.gif beer_mug.gif Oh heck! more beer on me!

Posted by: mingkee 15-Feb-2004, 10:07 PM
though I don't have the equipment like commercial FM
I paid my heart to make the best possible through FM radio
and guess what, once I install wifi on my pocket pc
100% digital audio, and a professional-class headphones
brings the station audio to the best

and, with the modem stream GPRS, I have more fun on the road
listen to highlanderradio during long bus trip makes the ride easier

I'd just like to use my 10th post to shout like a Dean....YIAAAAAAH!

I forgot just how much I hate Live365. Dang thing doesn't WORK!

Trying to play the thing through Winamp like I always do. Configured the Listener acocunt, logged in and all with Live365..It launches Winamp and.....sits there. Doesn't try to load a thing. And the only thing live365 can say in their helpfiles is "make sure the reconnect button is turned on"...contrary to Live365 and everyone else's webpage I've searched.....thereIS NO RECONNECT!

Ugh.

Probably the wrong forum, but....anyone else have a solution? smile.gif

Posted by: CelticRose 16-Feb-2004, 12:16 PM
Pneumandro! I am using modem dial up and running it through Real Audio and it is working perfectly! maybe that would help. smile.gif

Thanks oldraven for translating this. I thought it was just me not knowing another cyber................... (now what do they call those? shucks! My brain is spasming again). Anyway, you know what I mean. I just recently learned what IMHO means. biggrin.gif

That's what I though too, CelticRose, and as a Computer Science instructor I NEED to be up on the latest acronyms. Thanks, Oldraven!

An excellent resource -- thank you! Although Hackerish is my native language (I often have trouble when speaking to a class due to inability to translate on the fly) I have been out of touch with the mainstream dialect as I had been off hacking in the Apple orchard for some time before getting this most excellent teaching job...
